    The recent report by the Japanese by which the glucose isomerase ofStreptomyces is bound to the cell contents by a heat treatment has stimulatedmuch interest. Therefore, the effect of a short heat treatment at 50 and 60Con our enzyme was determined. After the heat treatment and a process to breakthe cell, virtually all of the enzyme was found in the water portion of thesample. Lttle or any enzymatic activity was observed in the cellular portion,hence, demonstrating that this enzyme cannot be readily converted to an activeinsoluble formusing the destroyed cells for a carrier of the active enzyme
