Essential Criteria

1. Fundamental Principles of Health and Disease:-

“Life is in the Blood ,Disease in Its Vitiations and Medicine in Similars”.

Count Ceasre Matttei (founder of Electrohomoeopathy) explained this system of treatment depends mainly upon the principle that somehow or other the Vitiated Conditions of the blood and lymph are the first generating cause of the abnormal changes and the first morbid effects which give rise to the disease.

It is the blood which contains the material for every tissue of the body and it supplies nutrients to every organs enabling it to perform its functions. it is indeed a microcosm, able to supply every possible want to the animal economy. Thus blood is called an internal and rudimental medicines of the system. Blood and lymph are the two life fluids which on their way up and down through the system leave every where new elements necessary for nutrition and vitality; while the waste matter and unnecessary products go out of the system by the natural processes of secretion and excretion, through the skin in the shape of sweat and eruptions, through the kidneys in the shape of urine, through the rectum in the shape of stools and so forth.

In this way the human body is kept up by this continual process of decomposition and re-composition. For example, by constant vital work, our systems undergo waste. This is replaced by new materials derived from the pure blood and lymph. This is the most essential part of the physiological process. Thus in Electrohomoeopathy “Health depends upon the normal condition of the blood and lymph and disease is produced from their abnormal state” Chemically ,Health is the chemical equilibrium between waste and supply and disease is the disturbance of this equilibrium.

The blood is the life, and we may believe that the first contact between life and the cause of disease, including drugs, takes place in this living fluid. Here is the first meeting- the first impression-the action- the first change from health- the first morbid phenomenon; the link which connects the existing cause with all the successive phenomena of any disease whatever. This is the important starting point of the Electrohomoeopathic Principle.

Pondering upon these and such other facts, we may clearly infer that the production of healthy blood and lymph (which originate in chyme and chyle) is the principal point of nutrition, and supply to different organs is made by these life –fluids. Hence its vitiation means vitiated nutrition,(Aetiology of Diseases in electrohomoeopathy) which engenders functional and structural morbid changes and there from diseases.

Congestion, inflammation, degeneration suppuration, etc, are all due to morbid conditions of the blood and lymph. if all the organs are not properly nourished with pure blood and lymph, they become weak, their power becomes seriously compromised, and the ultimate result is the functional or organic disorder, susceptibility to atmospheric changes and liability to epidemic idiopathic and other sorts of diseases.

In order to apply the Electrohomoeoathic priniciple and to interpret the words according to the principle, if the poison be insufficient to excite any of the recognized forms of miasmatic diseases,it can yet impress a paroxysmal type upon any intercurrent disorder, or it may simply lower the general health, causing anemia and weakness and shallowness of complexion, we may urge that on the blood depends the severity or mildness of the action of the poison. if we can make the blood pure and keep it so, no ulterior ill-effect can arise.

Modern science believes ,when the poison has been imbibed, it may remain latent in the system for from six to twenty days, and possible even for a few months, appoint necessary to remember in the diagnosis of obscure cases. We should ask, why it should remain latent for a few months only and not for ever? Does it not signify that until the “vitiation of blood is caused, no evil can arise and cause any injury”.

What is the effect of noxious gases, miasmatic poison etc? Nothing but an adulteration of the life-fluids. The time it takes to fully bring about this morbid changes is generally called the period of Incubation. Experience assigns different periods of incubations to different diseases. Still we see many deviations from it is practice which are considered as exceptional cases.

In nearly every constitution, there is a particular diathesis and this diathesis is nothing but a particular condition and abnoramal tendency of the life fluid, with its consequent effects.For instance, two patients have similar cuts.in one the cut is healed up in a few days, while in the other, deep unhealthy ulcers follow it. The good state of the life-fluids of one of the person,aids a great deal in healing up the cut while the bad blood of the other aggravates and does injusry to the cut .Again ,two nurses attend on acholera bed the poison catches hold of the one only, and why? Because the condition of the blood of one of the, is not sufficiently strong to ward off the poison, while that the other is so.

When we see that one disease, if it remains uncured for a long time, brings on the other disease, we can easily conclude that there is an interwoven chain which produce this kind of affinity and relationship, between the diseases. This chain is made up of no other materials than those of Blood and Lymph.

In the human system- every organ, artery, vein, capillary , ligament, tendon, tissue, fibre, even cellule has a part to paly, a force to exert, a help to render, to support the body and sustain life. Our blood and lymph sustain, vitalize and strengthen the human system. Every part of the body is fed with Blood and Lymph.

These and other similar facts to be observed in the pathology of diseases, clearly prove that “vitiation of Blood and Lymph” is the primary cause of all diseases- except those brought on by external violence, accidents, casualties etc. as burning or deep cuts may sometimes bring on tetanus,loss of blood may be the cause of high fever etc.

Sometimes Nature itself accomplishes cure- in other words vital force within us sometime becomes strong enough to drive away disease. Accordingly it may be inferred ,that vitality is the essential ground on which medicines moves and lives to act. The life of this vital force is blood and lymph so the first pathological effect and physiological changes of all diseases is the vitiation of blood and lymph-the rudimental axiom of Electro-homoeopathy.

Naturally, there is no abrupt line of separation ,between disease and its symptoms.The disease and its symptoms constitute illness. The morbid state(Vitiation of the life-fluids blood and lymph from whatever cause it may be) which is the cause of the symptoms is the pathological conditions viz.disease. Disease occurs when the sum of vital forces which tends to neutralize all cause of disturbance ,in other words, when the resistance offered by the vital force(through its only medium blood and lymph) is weaker than the acting cause of disturbance.it will be no wonder to say that the parasites, bacilli,etc cannot grow and multiply if the blood and lymph remain in their naturally strong condition, as seeds require prepared soil for their growth and do not grow all times. Therefore, the main pathological cause of all diseases can be recognized as “Vitiation of Blood and Lymph”.

Electrohomoeopathic theory is based on a more practically safe ground for the reason that if we can keep up the purity of blood and lymph of a patient by our treatment, he can easily ward off the effect of morbid poison, which goes out of the system or lies inactive and dead like waste matter.

Electrohomoeopathy treats the constitution and not the disease with its accompanying symptoms only .its aim is to purify the life-fluids, and so medicines are generally prescribed and advised to be continued after the so called cure, just as Allopaths gives tonics to their patients after the seeming cure.

Discovery of Electrohomoeopathy Remedies;-

The Electrohomoeopathic medicinal properties have been found by experimenting on the unhealthy to inquire what are the therapeutics of each remedies and this can be done only by experiment on the diseased persons. From the foregoing remarks it will necessarily follow that this plan of treatment is the best radical as it will try not only to destroy the disease and its inward and outward diverse changes and manifestations but to exert also its influence in removing the generating cause of the diseases and to have us no ground for apprehending recurrence or transformation of diseases. Hence it may be called not a system of medicine, but medicine itself.

Why the name is Electrohomoeopathy??

Meaning of “Electro”Electrohomoeopathic Medicine ,when administered internally, have been observed in some constitutions to extent an action on the nervous system resembling that of a very faint galvanic shock and its liquid remedies, when applied externally on the parts where the nerve are nearest the surface, have removed with electric speed certain pains and other morbid conditions of the body, hence the name “ ELECTRO”.

Meaning of “Homeo”:-

These Electrohomoeopathic medicines also act Homoeopathically and well proved too as per law of “Similia”. While conducting study of drug proving on Sick Person Count Mattei Noticed that many of his compound formulations like single remedies of “homoeopathy” if prescribed in large doses produce aggravation of the symptoms which can be removed by its minute doses and hence the additional denomination “HOMOEOPATHY”.For these reasons this system has been called “Electrohomoeopathy”.

“Law of Similia and Electrohomoeopathy” (Medicine in Similar)

We know “Law of Similia “ is only a tool used by the Homoeopathy to discover the new drugs on the bases of the Proving on healthy Body. Similarly Count Ceasre Mattei used the same tool to understand and discover the right remedy for the sickness while had the proving on the sick body. Law of Similia means a similar medicine which has the ability to cure in minute form the symptoms it produces when given in the large doses, And a method called proving is used to prove this facts . Homoepathy doing this proving on Healthy Person while Electrohomoeopathy does this type of proving on Non Healthy or Sick person. “So in this way we can see that ground of discovering the new drug in both sciences goes through the experiment of Drug proving by means of law of Similia”

2. Electrohomoeopathy Concept of Aetiology ,Diagnosis and Management of diseases:-

A) The roots of Aetiology of illness in Electrohomoeopathy lies in the concept of Constitution. It is generally an opinion that the “constitution “ is in itself a morbid condition,but this is not the case. The “Constitution” in Electrohomoeopathy sense of the word is simply the SOIL, in which disease of a certain kind develop most easily.As we have heard the expression used in speaking of agricultural matters, a good wheat soil,turnip-soil etc. Now is the wheat soil equivalent to the wheat?, or the turnip soil to the turnip? Of course not, the wheat soil represents those qualities of soil that are most favorable to growth, development and prosperity for the wheat.

It is exactly same with constitution, it is not the disease itself but the soil which is suited to the development of the same,but it is not certain that it will develop,no more than it is necessary that only wheat should be cultivated on a wheat soil. Just as wheat flourishes more on red and or black soils than any other crops, that kind of disease, will develop best on “soil” of a certain constitution, which is suited to the constitution in question.

Hahnemann’s “Psoric” constitution corresponds to the “carbonic “constitution of Grauvogel. The “syphilitic” Constitution to the “Oxygenoid” constitution of Grauvogel.The “Sycotic” Constitution to the “Hydrogenoid” Constitution of Grauvogel. Count Mattei also came to similar conclusion as regards the essence of the being essentially constitutional (dyscrasia), and the connection between the external phenomenon thereof (Symptoms).

We must distinguish the two chief causes of disorders in “metabolism”, those of the “LYMPH”, and those of the “BLOOD”, it must follow from the mutual relations of development of these two vital currents, the BLOOD representing only a more perfect development thereof, that disorders in the lymphatic system must lead in course of the time to similar disorders in the SANGUINOUS system.

Count Mattei’s classification of diseases is founded on this natural perception, and he accordingly distinguishes three different morbid dispositions or conditions.

1. THE LYMPHATIC

2. THE SANGUINE

3. THE MIXED

The Lymphatic constitution includes the tendency to disease of the lymph and the organs of the circulation of the lymph,that is, the tendency to disease of the mucous membranes ,the glands, the lymphatic absorbent vessels, the digestive and secretive glands in general, diseases of the stomach and intestines, the skin and the cutaneous glands.

The Sanguine Constitution has the tendency to, or disposition for diseases of the blood and of the red corpuscles, the organs of the circulation of the blood in generals ; consequently diseased of the heart, the arteries, veins, and capillaries of both systems and their functions. It also inclused acute catarrh and inflammation ,congestion of blood, superabundance of blood or congestion in any particular organ that may cause inflammation and a tendency to haemorrhage; for instance, congestion of the brain combined with heat, headache, giddiness, tendency to bleeding of the nose or singing in the ears.

The Mixed Constitution unites the peculiarities of both the former constitutions but to an intensified and higher degree. It has the tendency to disease of the glands, the glandular tisuue and glandular organs,then the cellular tissue in general, resulting from the dyscrasia of the constructive vital humors, blood and lymph.As a conseuqnces of the insufficient excretion of foreign and disintegrative matter of metabolism, or owing to the want there in of the constructive (physiological) elements of the organism ,this leads to local degeneration of tissues, whether through suppuration,induration, softening, sanious or ichorous ulceration, gangrene ,caries through irregular exuberance of the tissues, which results in tumors of benign and or malignant character.

Remedies as per the Constitution of patient:-

3. The Mixed Constitution - Canceroso Group alongwith S1, A3 or S2

B) Electrohomoeopathy Diagnosis:-

This is fundamental fact in Electrohomoeopathy that all diseases, whatever their form or seat, proceed in nine cases out of ten from the “Vitiation of Lymph”, and in the remaining case from “Vitiation of Blood,or of Both Together”.

As there are only these three causes of disease, there can only exist three classes of maladies; for diagnosis, everything is reduced to this ,to know if the patient belong to one of the three following classes:

1. The Lymphatic, which are by far the most numerous.

2. The Sanguine (Angiotics)

3. Combined (Mixed), which belong to the two preceding classes by the junction of the two “Vitiations” at the same time.

The whole question of Diagnosis then reduces itself to discovering whether the patient be “Lymphatic” or “Angiiotic” or “Both” ?

It is very much clear the patient if found Lymphatic than constitution he belong must be LYMPHATIC , and if found Angitico than Must belong to SANGUINE Constitution and when it seems that patient neither belong to Lymphatic and nor Angitico than it must be treated as combined and constitutionally it belong to the MIXED constitution.

To know the constitution of a patient, it is proper to be acquainted with the previous state of his health, the maladies which he may have had in his infancy, in his youth and the causes which produced them. Also the health and diseases of the parents may furnish indications, for we all inherit more or less of the constitution of our parents.

To confirm the Type of Constitution “Iris Analysis” is the basic tool of Iridology which helps to identify the all different types of “Constitution” as follows.

1. The person if bearing the Eye (Iris) Color Blue/Grey/ than belong to “Lymphatic “ Constitution.

2. The Person if bearing the Eye (Iris) Color Brown/Deep Brown than belong to”Sanguine “ Constitution.

3. The Person if bearing the Eye (Iris) Color Blue Grey/green/hazel with layers of differing pigments belong to Mixed Constitution.

Experience also taught how easily we can differentiate the Constitutions of the patients just by looking the physique ,symptoms and general examination of the patient.

1) The Angitico condition is easily recognized; it is particularly characterized by a florid complexion, tendency to hemorrhages ,congestions, vertigo, palpitations, rapid pulsation in the carotids, hemorrhoids, varicose veins etc.

2) And if the patient has absolutely none of these symptoms ,he is necessarily lymphatic.

3) Finally, by the side of some angiotic symptoms one or more, proper to the lymphatic’s, may be present ,such as tumors, enlarged glands eruptions on the skin etc; it is that the “vitiation of the blood co exist with that of the Lymph; it is a combined malady.

If medicine Does not work?

When no effect is obtained from a remedy ,or the effect is slow in showing itself,one of the three following things is certain;

a) Either the diagnose is erroneous.

b) The remedy consequently badly selected.

c) The dose is wrong or not compatible to the severity of the disease.

The effect of the EH medicines cannot fail ,on condition that they are properly given according to the rules of prescription.

Electrohomoeopathy Pharmacy is called "Spagyric Essence". Count Mattei and Dr. Theodre krauss Mentioned this method of preparation as "COHOBATION" which is in actual the last step involved in making of Spagyric Essence. 

“ Cohobation by definition is a last step used in making Spagyrics where three purified elements are recombined together and this recombination of the elements leads to the formation of Spagyric essence”.

The spagyric essence of electrohomoeopathy mostly not potentised like Homeopathy but just diluted by adding the vehicle as per the requirement of the dosology by following the method of the decimal scale. (1:9)

Electrohomoeopathy History, and stages of developments:-

Hippocrates (460-350B.C.), the father of medicine, wrote “By similar things a disease is produced and through the application of like, it is cured” Hippocrates in an oblique manner recognised the natural ability of the body to cure itself, he also recognised symptoms of disease as the expression of nature’s healing powers.

Second to Hippocrates among the founders of medicine, Greek Physician Galen (130-200 A.D.) wrote of natural cure by the likes. In fifteenth Century a Swiss Physician and medical reformer Dr. Theophatus Von Bombast, (1493-1541), who adopted the pseudonym ‘Paracelsus’ stated that “every diseased organ had its corresponding remedy in nature”. He also prepared drugs from plants by taking out their essences.

The remarkable phenomena of animal magnetism originated with a Swiss Physician Dr. Friedrich Anton Mesmer, born in 1733, he claimed to have discovered a new vital fluid or affluence, which could be transmitted from one person to another and which he asserted had wonderful curative properties, at that time the physical forces of magnetism, electricity etc. were attributed to various impalpable fluids, and Mesmer believed he found a new fluid or force associated with life resembling magnetism, hence, he called it animal magnetism.

In no country have the phenomena of animal magnetism been more carefully studied than in Italy. Also, a commission of Italian Physicians was appointed to conside r the therapeutic value of animal magnetism, with special reference to its applicability in medical practice.

Dissatisfied with contemporary medical practice, Italian herbalist Count Cesare Mattei (1809-1896) was much influenced by the works of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, the father of Homoeopathy, but Mattei believed in the cure of cause of disease while in homoeopathy the role of cause of disease is regarded secondary as the system of medicine is based upon symptomatic treatment.

After years of devotion to experiments with medicinal plants in 1865 he introduced his new medical Science ‘Electrohomoeopathy’ based on the etiology of the disease, namely the theory of humors of Hippocrates and Galen (the diseases were due to a blood disorder, or yellow or black bile, or lymph or air).

This theory was originated with the Alchemists of India, China and Middle East which came from Asia through North Africa to spread to Europe, in Italy the theory of Hippocrates and Galen dominated the medicine of that time.

Mattei also had given much importance upon the ‘animal magnetism’ as he postulated human being as living magnet. Later Scientific discoveries proved Mattei’s concept as a reality, also it is observed that the magnetic field of our earth in north pole is much stronger than the south pole as the survival of life is more towards the north pole than the south pole.

Mattei believed that chelation is one of the basic causes of disease in human body and requires medicine enriched in trace elements in order to be cured. The concept as well dates back to 12th centuries traditional medical Practitioners of India, with whom spagyric plant essences and metallic preparations were in use.

“To resume the conclusions which I have reached, I claim to have established the following facts: Electro- homoeopathy is perfected homoeopathy, by the discovery of new therapeutic agents (which I call electroids) acting on the blood and giving to the organism the power necessary to cast off the morbid elements which injure it. This materia medica, like homoeopathy which it is the consummation, has been evolved by experiment, and it rests entirely on facts ascertained by experiment. It is therefore true, and it is simple as truth itself.”

Electrohomeopathy adopted from Homeopathy1, 2 maceration, pressing, and production in pills or liquids of the preparation of herbal medicines of that time and re-organized diagnosis and mode of administration of the remedies, Mattei also integrated Color therapy3 and Acupuncture4 in his medicine.

In 1869 Pope Pius IX. gave him part of the hospital at Santa Theresa, where he accomplished such marvellous cures that the crowds had to be controlled by soldiers. He devoted most of his life to the study of an empirical medical science, called Electrohomoeopathy and it’s disclosure and that led him to achieve worldwide fame in the decades 1860-1880.When the Count Mattei aged in 1887 he had handed over all his work to his adopted son Mario Venturoli Mattei.Mattei had written his first book in 1874 in Italian language, which was then published in other languages.

Advancements in Electrohomeopathy

Count Cesare Mattei(1809-1896) of Bologna, Italy is credited to be the founder of Electrohomeopathy , but, some so called Mattei disciples/followers like Carl Freidrich Zimpel(Italy) and Theodore Krauss(Germany) made remarkable advancements in Electrohomeopathy, besides, Dr.A.Sauter( Geneva,Switzerland), P.Ponzio(Paris, France) and Father Augustus Muller (Kankannady, Mangalore, South India), established their own methodologies in the name of Electrohomeopathy. Alexander von Bernus (1880-1965) also introduced his Electrohomeopathic Spagyrics , amongst others ( page. 157 Mario Facci:“IL CONTE CESARE MATTEI”).

Electrohomeopathy in Contemporary Texts

In the book "Keynotes of Homoeopathic Materia Medica 4 th Edn. by Dr.H.C.Allen published by "Economic Homeo Pharmacy" of Calcutta, in the chapter " Specific Medicines" it is written that in the later part of 18th century some Homeopaths of Europe established polypharmacy of homeopathic tinctures in low potencies and it’s called Electric School of Homeopathy.

In the book "Lectures on Materia Medica by James Tyler Kent acknowledgments are given to Electic School of Homeopathy while discussing 'Phytolacca'.

In the book "Materia Medica" by Dr.W.Boericke, acknowledgments are given to Electic School of Homeopathy while discussing 'Echinacea'.

In Treatment of Diseases by concentrated tinctures and active principles of medicines : The Materia Medica and Therapeutics by Atul Krishna Dutta, M.D., M.H., Tenth Edition, Published by Chckerverty Chatterjee & Co.Ltd.Calcutta-13(Year-1952) Electric School of Homeopathy was referred to.

Electrohomeopathy in India

Electrohomeopathy made its way to India via England, and the first Institution ‘Bengal Electric Medical School’ to offer training in this science with the affiliation of Maria Ventrouli Mattei, the adopted son of Count Cesare Mattei, was from Dr. H.D.Banerjee of 14,Khansama Lane, Calcutta. Shortly after, Electrohomeopathy took hold in India and students were learning this system in Kolkata. In 1893 Dr Bipin Bihari Batabyal of Kolkata published his monumental work Materia Medica of Electrohomeopathy in Bengali from 34 College Street, Published by Umacharan Chakraborty.

Dr H D Banerjee’s book Lectures on Materia Medica was published in 1909 from Italy , Published by Stabilimento Tip Successori Monti, Bologna, Italy , with a Foreword by Maria Ventrouli Mattei, in this Foreword Maria Ventrouli Mattei categorically explained how after Count Mattei’s death poor imitations of Mattei Remedies appeared in the world market courtesy;

respectively, Theodore Krauss(Germany) , Dr.A.Sauter( Geneva,Switzerland), Father Augustus Muller (Mangalore, India), etc.

Essentia Journal Volume 2 Summer 1981 carried one article by Alchemist Frater Albertus on Dr A. K. Bhattacharya(1915-1984), Naihati, Calcutta. He learnt True Electrohomeopathy from his father Dr. Benoytosh Bhattacharya who was a disciple of Dr H D Banerjee of Bengal Electric Homeopathy Medical School, Kolkata.

Krauss School of Electrohomeopathy made its way to India through Dr N L Sinha (1889-1979) who learnt the system from Institute of Applied Medical Sciences, London in 1911. He was Registered as Homoeopathic practitioner by the Board of Homeopathic Medicine, U.P., Lucknow dated 23rd February, 1955.

He established Electro Homoeopathic Institute in 1911 at Sitapur, later in 1920 he established National University of Electro Complex Homoeopathy in Kanpur.

KEY FACTS

•1500 A.C.: Paracelsus and many alchemists work on system to extract the “OD” force from elements of nature (minerals, plants, animals).

•1776: Friedrich Anton Mesmer earned his Ph.D. from Vienna University for the thesis ‘Influence of Planets on Human Body’. First scientific explanation of Vital Force or Life Force, which he termed ‘animal magnetism’.

• 1846: The research of Baron Karl Von Reichenbach on “Vital Force” is published.

•1850: first Mattei Spagyrics are realized. Abate Gaudenzio Soleri gives these remedies to sick people in Turin, Italy.

• 1865-1866: more than 20.000 people take consultation at Bologna to Count Cesare Mattei, assisted by some medical doctors.

•1869 Pope Pius IX. gave Mattei part of the Santa Theresa Military Hospital, where he accomplished such marvellous cures that the crowds had to be controlled by soldiers.

•1874: Mattei had written his first book in Italian language, which was then published in other languages.

•1875- 1887 the official organ, Moniteur de V Electro-Homiopathie, was published regularly from Roccheta Mattei

• 1884: Mr Giordan published in Geneva the book in which he accused Count Mattei of copying Bellotti and Finella remedies.

•1890: Ministry of Italy Kingdom forbid any form of “secret remedy”.

•1892: In England, great problem for Dr. Kennedy is arriving after the publication in which he states to have cured cancers by Mattei remedies.

•1896: Count Cesare Mattei died.
