FOREWORD

This manual has been prepared to assist you in the proper break-in, daily care, and operationof your new Ford Wheel Loader. It contains specific information on its many features; the at­tachments that are available; instructions for making minor repairs and adjustments; safetyprecautions; general specifications; and suggested operating techniques.

Your Ford Wheel Loader has been carefully inspected before leaving the factory and by yourFord Wheel Loader Dealer prior to delivery to see that it is "ready to go".To keep it in this"ready to go" condition, it is important to follow regularly scheduled service periods asrecommended in this manual.

Any references to right, left, front or rear, when referring to the Ford Wheel Loader, is asviewed from the operator's seat. When ordering parts for the Ford Wheel Loader, left andright is established as viewed from behind the entire unit.

The Ford Wheel toader serial number is important should your unit require future service.Have your Dealer record this number, along with the other information called for in thespaces below.

Read this manual carefully before operating your Ford Wheel Loader and keep it in a con­venient location for future reference. If, at any time, you have a service problem concerningyour new Ford Wheel Lpader, remember that your Ford Wheel Loader Dealer has factorytrained service personnel, genuine Ford parts, and the necessary tools and equipment tobest satisfy your service needs.

CAB (OPTIONAL)

The cab for the Ford Wheel Loaders includes doorlocks on each door. The left door can be locked fromthe outside while the right door is locked only from theinside. Windows in the cab are safety glass.

OPERATOR'S SEAT

The Ford Wheel Loaders are equipped with an ad­justable seat which shifts forward and aft. This permitsseat adjustment to obtain individualized positions fordifferent operators and can ease operator fatigue. Theseat release lever, (4) Figure 5, can be actuated allow­ing the seat to adjust four inches (10.16 cm) from fullforward to full aft.

DELUXE SUSPENSION SEAT (OPTIONAL)

The Ford Wheel Loaders have an optional deluxesuspension seat. The suspension seat offers the op­timum in operator comfort. It is easily adjusted tomatch the operator's height and weight, allowing fullcomfort and control for the operator and contributesto help minimize operator fatigue.

4. Clean the inside of the air cleaner body with adamp, lint-free cloth, then reinstall the element.

5. Check and tighten all air induction connectionsbefore resuming operation.

IMPORTANT: Do not remove or disturb the in­ner air cleaner element. It should be servicedonly by your authorized dealer. If the air cleanerrestriction gauge continues to show red whenthe engine is running after the outer element hasbeen cleaned, washed or a new outer element in­stalled, see your dealer.

Washing the Outer Element: Wash the dry air:Ieaner outer element to remove exhaust smoke film:IS necessary.

1. Remove the outer filter element as shown inFigure 29.

2. Inspect the gasket on the open end of the ele­ment for damage. If the gasket is loose, damag­ed or missing, install a new element.

3. Agitate the element in warm water containing asmall amount of non-sudsing type detergent.

IMPORTANT: Do not use water hotter than thehand can stand, as the element will be damaged.Never wash the element with fuel oi~ gas or sol­vent. Do not 011 the element.

4. Rinse the element with clean water to thoroughlyloosen all foreign material. Shake excess waterfrom the element and allow it to air dry.

IMPORTANT: Do not dry the element withcompressed air, as the air will rupture a wet ele­ment. Also, do not install a wet element as thewheel loader engine will not start with a wet ele­ment installed.

5. After drying, check for damage by holding a lightinside the element. If an even, fine pattern oflight is seen, the element is clean and undamag­ed. A bright spot of light indicates the element isdamaged and a new element must be installed.

6. Wipe the air cleaner body free of dust, then in­stall the element.

Changing the Element: Change the air cleaner outerelement as required.

1. Remove the outer filter element as shown inFigure 29.

2. Wipe the inside of the air cleaner body free ofdust.

3. Install a new element.

CAB PRESSURIZER AIR FILTER ANDDEFROSTER AIR FILTER

Cleaning the Filter: The frequency of cleaning forthe air filters depends primarily on the working condi­tions encountered. Check the filter periodically as thecircumstances warrant. To clean the filters:

1. Open the access door (1), Figure 30, and removethe cab pressurizer air filter.

2. Gently tap the filter, drity side down, on a flatsurface.

NOTE: Compressed air not to exceed 100 psi(7.03 Kg/crrJ2) may be used for cleaning. Directthe air from the inside to the outside of the filter.

To Wash:

1. Soak the filter for the first 15 minutes in a mildsoap and warm water solution.
