• A coastal state is entitled certain rights in certain bodies of water around it.
• Example:IntheEEZ,thecoastalstatehassovereignrightsforthepurposeofexploringandexploiting,conservingandmanagingthenaturalresources(Article56).
• In order to exercise these sovereign rights, state’s MLEAs is used.ØExample:Onhotpursuit:“ThehotpursuitofaforeignshipmaybeundertakenwhenthecompetentauthoritiesofthecoastalStatehavegoodreasontobelievethattheshiphasviolatedthelawsandregulationsofthatState.”(Article111).
