CULL COWS (48) Beef to 128.50p/kg Dairy to 138.50p/kg Starts 11.30am AUCTIONEERS: MARK NORTHCOTT 07798 645274 Once again demand outstripped today’s supply with meat cows particularly
wanted and dear. Plainer cows at late rates. Quality heavy Friesian cows sold
well to 138.50p/kg from NF Clothier & Sons and £1035 from DW & MA Brunt
with a further 10 selling from 120p/kg. Manufacturing cows were also dear and
urgently wanted. Plainer types unchanged and only a handful selling below
90p/kg. Beef cows – A mixed quality entry sold to a solid trade with Angus to
128.50p/kg from M Baker, Herefords to 127.50p/kg from Chave & Foster and
Simmental to 120p/kg from AL & DM Sage & Son. Feeding cows continue to be
wanted, more cows please, don’t miss the trade!

SHEEP (580) Starts 10.30am AUCTIONEER: ROSS WHITCOMBE 07815 985 737 PRIME LAMBS (308) Max 214p/kg £118 A smaller entry of lambs which sold to an easier trade on the week, however anything with meat were all over 200p/kg. A tidy average of 197p/kg for every lamb entered in the market, which is far in front of other centres. Best lambs to 214p/kg from Mike Knowles & Sally Withers with heavy lambs to 205p/kg from Balmain & Balmain. Light 34kg lambs to 207p/kg from RJ Kyte with 38kg lambs to £80.50 from C Tucker. Standard weight lambs to 207p/kg and £96 from NF Clothier & Sons. Heavy lambs to 214p/kg from Mike Knowles & Sally Withers, topping at £108 from Balmain & Balmain who had others to £116. Nowhere near enough lambs here with over 10 buyers keen to battle it out, more sheep needed.

STORE LAMBS (66) Max. £79.50 A tidy entry of lambs forward with fresh faces travelling up from Devon to purchase lambs from Frome. Best lambs to £79.50 from Coombe Barn Farming with other forward lambs to £76.50 from PM & JE Batstone & Son.
CULL EWES & RAMS (28) Max. £86 Av. £64.80 A very small entry of cull ewes which enjoyed a flying trade with best thick ewes to £86 from S & D Carnie who had other North Country mules to £78. Rams to £70 from C Tucker.
EWES & LAMBS (2+3) A small entry of 2 ewes and 3 lambs looked extremely well sold to £110 per outfit. Any undeclared ram store lambs will be subject to a 25% deduction if found by the buyer after the auction. To prevent this please declare all ram lambs when booking them in.

STIRKS (135) AUCTIONEER: CHARLIE COLEMAN 07494 588 013 A good entry of quality today met yet again an outstanding trade for the time of
year. Topping the day a run of super Blue steers from the Peters family of East
Sussex which soared to £510, with Angus steers to £458 and £495 for Blue
heifers from the same home. A superb run of Friesians again from the Peters
stormed to £245 and £240. Good to see Steve Horn exhibiting quality Blue
steers also cruising to £505, with heifers to £490. Messrs Hickery saw quality
Angus steers to £470. Limousin steers from Greenlanes Farming cruised to
£500, with Charolais steers to £445 from the same home. Good to see Sam
Pitman of Gillingham here seeing his Limousin heifers to £400. A pair of real
cracking Angus heifers from Alan Mitchell & family excelled to £498 and £458.
Herefords in popular demand seeing best heifers to £378 from the Harris family.
A lovely young Devon heifer from the Patch family sailed to £385.

CALVED HEIFERS TO £1450 CALVED COWS TO £1220
& ORGANIC IN CALF HEIFERS TO £1610 Pleasing to see over 30 Dairy again this week, trade lively throughout the fresh
milk were a little less quality than of some previous sales. Top spot to Paul &
Kay Trippick selling their last heifers which sold to £1440. Generally a shortage
of best quality calved heifers today. This sale saw a good entry of Organic Dairy
cattle with a tremendous consignment from Tynings Farms Ltd of In calf
Friesians Holstein home bred heifers due November/December to pedigree
Angus. Trade was excellent for these grand types seeing prices 10 times over
£1500 and topped at £1610 for a “Cryptonite” daughter due early November.
Organic 1st cross Fleckvieh heifers 12 – 14mo from the Gould family regularly
over £550 topping at £585.

CALVES (325) Starts 09.30am AUCTIONEERS: TIM HECTOR 07818 056 049 CHARLIE COLEMAN: 07494 588 013 A huge jump in numbers saw a competitive trade for all calves although a touch easier on previous weeks.
CONTINENTAL BULLS TO £415/HEIFERS TO £298 A good entry saw a range of sorts all of which were in good demand to see best bulls over £300 to top at £415 for a Blue from Wardour Farms, Charolais to £325 from WH Longman & Sons, Simmentals to £290 from Mark Futcher with most bulls between £280 - £180. Continental heifers have eased slightly for good medium sorts, best Blues to £228 PHG Turner. A fabulous Simmental heifer from AL & DM Sage & Son flew to £298, Charolais to £208 from WH Longman & Sons, most £180 - £120.
NATIVE BULLS TO £345/NATIVE HEIFERS TO £162 A good firm demand for Native bulls with plenty of buyers for all grades with most between £180 - £150. A super Angus bull from S Harris rose to £345, others to £280 and £268. Hereford bulls to £230 from Cross Keys Farms, heifers eased on last week to see Angus heifers to £162 and Herefords to £135.
FRIESIAN TO £122 FLECKVIEH TO £368 Another large entry of Dairy bulls saw trade ease on previous weeks, Holsteins to £122 from Spicer Partners, British Friesians to £65 from Hosier Bros, plenty of smart Fleckviehs were well sought to £368 & £360 from RTJ Voizey & Partners and £268 twice from Hosier Bros.

STEERS TO £1280 HEIFERS TO £1320 A good entry of quality cattle today with a large number of buyers showing keen interest and a strong trade resulted.
COWS & CALVES No shortage of bidders for the quality on offer today. A super herd reduction for Phillip Harrison commanded vibrant bidding throughout. His Blue x cows & Angus x calves saw prices to £1480, £1450, £1340 and £1300. Super Simmental cows & calves from the same home to £1250, and Limousin to £1260. More quality Blue cows & Simmental calves from THJ Denbee were wanted at £1180 & £940.
ORGANIC Good entries of Organic again for our September sale with 125 penned for sale. Trade was strong throughout for all types. 16mo Angus x British White steers from Harley Farms (South) saw lively bidding to £820, heifers from the same home to £598, all were out wintered and several off the Salisbury plains. More quality Angus from the Hardwick Bros of Bridgwater saw 17mo steers to £970 and £940 while heifers topped at £898. Forward Angus steers 16mo to £1125 and heifers to £1128 from regular vendor Chave & Foster of Bath. More forward Continental Simmental 17mo again from Chave & Foster to £1100 and heifers to £1050. Herefords continued to see plenty of buyers with nice farming types, 16 – 17mo from £875 - £800 from both EF Lansdown & Partners and Slepe Farm.
YOUNG CONTINENTAL Plenty of trade all through the market today, with more buyers attending and very much in the mood to purchase. Younger Continentals were selling to high levels with quality Charolais saw 14mo steers from Cutteridge Farm to £995, closely followed by Clive House’s 9mo steers to £830 & £770, his heifers sold well to £630. A number of super suckled Limousins were present with Ollie Hares (Hares Partnership) seeing his 10mo steers to £860, heifers to £842 & £815 and 14mo steers from the same home to £900. Paul & Rob Lucas continuing to produce grand quality cattle with their Limousin steers 13 – 14mo to £840 and 12 – 15mo heifers to £802. Very few younger Continental x Dairy bred stores but those forwards were very well sold and all trade faster again this week

ANGUS What a day at Frome. A wonderful show of Angus sold to another outstanding trade with the tremendously well bred and reared steers from Angus Neish selling from £1150 and topping at £1280 twice at only 19 – 20mo. His younger steers met a keen trade to £1150 for 18mo. Other forward steers sold to fast bidding forcing prices to £1200 (22mo) from the Brookfield family and £1135 (21mo) from F Stone. Younger steers from Raymond Bailey’s dispersal sale sold well to £1100 (19mo) and £1068 (18mo) from HG Davey. Good feeding steers wanted and sold to £990 from Townhill Farming Partnership, £952 - £958 from Kenneth & Jonathan Hames and £935 from Tim Gelfs. Younger steers met keen interest to £915 (16mo) from EH & S Burt of IOW, and yearlings continue to amaze selling from £772 from F Stone to £808 from TR Hordle. Some of the best heifers sold this season met a massive trade selling from £1105 - £1320 (19 – 20mo) all from Angus Neish. Bulling heifers wanted and sold from £1042 – £990 all from Townhill Farming Partnership. Pete Gould & family’s heifers also keenly sought to £950. Others to £905 from TJ Bourne and £870 (20mo) from Raymond Bailey and £785 from Tim Gelf. Yearling heifers from TR Hordle well sold to £748 (14mo).
FRIESIANS
Only a few on offer today and many more would have sold to advantage.
Framed steers sold to a fast trade from £860 from TJ Bourne to £890 (18mo)
from Richard Mckie & family. Their medium steers also wanted and sold from
£572 to £650. David Hawkins’ steers sold to £630 and good shaped types to
£700 from Frost & Frost. Yearling steers sold well to £560 from PM & K
Trippick.
HEREFORD Over 100 on offer met an amazing trade with forward steers from £1115 (20mo)
from Brian Trott and topped at £1252 (23mo) from Claude & Jeanette Eavis,
their others sold to £1062. Younger framed steers met a fast trade to £1090
(20mo) from PH Creed & Son, £1052 (20mo) from Brian Trott, £1062 from SC &
JA Eavis, £920 from Hook Valley Farm Partnership and £895 from Richard
Mckie. Yearling steers wanted and sold from £772 from TR Hordle to £785 from
Cartlidge T/A Green Farm. Heifers keenly sought selling to £1100 (23mo) from
SC & JA Eavis and bullers to £860 (17mo) from Clive House. Other good
bullers sold from £722 from Richard Mckie, £730 from PH Creed & Son, £780
from S Simmons, £820 from TJ Bourne, £845 from Pete Gould & family to £852
from Brian Trott. Yearling heifers sold from £650 from IJ & JC Brett and Mike
Knowles to £705 from Clive House.
FORWARD CONTINENTALS An excellent entry of forward Continentals met an outstanding trade, all grades
wanted with premium prices achieved for fleshed types with good conformation.
Quality reared Simmental steers topped the trade selling from £1190 (22mo) to
£1250 (23mo) from Claude & Jeanette Eavis and their Blues sold to £1112
(22mo). Will Weaver’s well fed Fleckviehs met sensational prices from £1200 -
£1235, his Blues also sold to £1235 (25mo) and his Charolais to £1150 (23mo).
Raymond Bailey’s dispersal sale met keen interest with his Charolais steers
selling to a massive £1230 (19mo), his Blues from £1180 - £1200 (18mo) and
his Limousin steers to £1100 (17mo). John & Sue Loder’s consignment met a
fast trade with their Limousins from £1105 (20mo) to £1135 (21mo). Many other
steers also sold well on this trade. Heifers also met a sensational trade with
Raymond Bailey’s Limousin heifers selling tov £1165 (23mo) and his younger
Blue heifers from £1022 - £1018 (16mo). PW CC & JC Gould’s Blue heifers
topped at £1075 (27mo). John & Sue Loder’s Limousin bulling heifers sold well
to £982 (23mo) and Hugo James T/A Townshill Farming Partnership Blue
bullers sold from £940 - £880. Simmental bullers topped at £900 (23mo) from
TJ Bourne and closely followed at £880 (19mo) from Raymond Bailey and £860
from Pete Gould & family.

Although prices may not have hit July & August high prices, today’s prices illustrated the quality of ewes forward. Prices to note was £132 for some 2T Texel mules from FR Callaway & Sons Ltd. 6T - Full mouth ewes from M. Lailey enjoyed success with best ewes over £100. Quality older Texel mules to £85 from JW Tabor Ltd. A cracking run of 2016 born Easy Care ewes from J & K Walther enjoyed spirited bidding selling to £75.
EWE LAMBS (300) MAX. £100 A quality entry of ewe lambs forward which enjoyed a selective trade. Best Texel mules to £100 from Keevil Farm Partnership with strong Suffolk mules to £97 from Biddesden Farm Partnership whose 170 ewe lambs averaged £95, an excellent run, well done!
RAMS (37) MAX. £350 A very selective trade today in the Ram section, the best looked well sold but the others looked harder work. Cracking Texel rams to £350 from VM Dunford with quality Charollais ram lambs to £300 from T Newth.
STORE LAMBS (534) MAX. £72.50 A good number of store lambs forward which sold to a flying trade for all
entered with buyers travelling from Devon, Cornwall, Dorset and Wiltshire all
looking to source quality lambs from Frome Market. No real best store lambs
entered with more longer keeping lambs in the yard. Best Suffolk types to
£72.50 from Brian Fielding who had others to £71 and £68.50. Quality
Charollais lambs from Oak Farms topped at £72. Any lambs with shape and
size all £65+.

Lovely to welcome back the Blue Texel Society for their annual sale at Frome
Market. Quality sheep which met competive bidding throughout achieving 100%
clearance. Prices to note is a quality Blue Texel ewe lamb from Andrew Bishop
of Gloucester topping at 820gns, with Shearling rams to 570gns from Joshua,
Isabel & Richard Kimber. Ram lambs to 480gns from AD Bishop and Shearling
ewes from Eastbury Livestock to 420gns.
BELTEX SHEARLING RAMS TO 600gns & SHEARLING EWES TO 480gns Fantastic to welcome the Beltex Society back here to Frome with some top
prices being achieved and a high precentage of Beltex being sold through the
ring. Prices to note was a shearling ram to 600gns from AD Bishop from
Eldersfield, Gloucestershire, with a quality shearling to 420gns from MA Heard
of Wiveliscombe. Beltex ram lambs to 480gns from Louise Elworthy of Exeter.
Shearling Beltex ewes from the same home caught the buyers eyes and selling
to 480gns with other quality fetching 400gns.
