The Byron R. Barder House was entered into the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. Built in 1919, it was the home of Byron R. Barder for 38 years. Barder was president and general manager of Biggs Boiler Works Company, one of Akron’s more important industries. The house is an unusual interpretation of the Georgian Revival’s Adamesque mode. It was converted into office and studio use by an Akron architectural firm, with stringent preservation of the exterior appearance and as few major changes as possible in adapting the interior.
