PRE-NURSING ADVISING IMPLICATIONS
Pre-nursing Advising began as part of the 2006 DOL Grant initiative to develop and expand the quantity and quality of nursing education.
The DOL grant objectives involved:1. Provide advising and case management to Nurse
Aide students who desire entry to a PN or RN program
2. Provide intensive advising to ensure successful transition from a PN to RN program
3. *Provide intensive/ comprehensive advising services for Pre-nursing population*

Qualifications: M.Ed., Student Personnel
Services Provisional Certificate for
School Counselor, All Grades Professional Experience:
Counseling, Guidance, Consultation, Program Coordinator/ Developer, Program Administrator
ESTABLISHING PRE-NURSING ADVISING
Extensive, ongoing training with Assessment and Advising Center
Meetings with Project Director and Assistant Dean of Nursing
IT setup and office arrangements

The following results data describes the impact of pre-nursing services.
Results-What was changed BCTC pre-nursing students had a direct contact for the Nursing Program (specifically a
liaison between advising and Nursing) Such contributed to advising consistency Various Faculty and Nursing Division indicated their demand of advising services was
alleviated
Implications-What the data shows There is a large demand for pre-nursing services The largest sector of students includes currently enrolled students seeking ADN. Survey demonstrates high % of satisfactory services and the need for focus advising
Future Nursing Career Pathways High ratio of applicants vs. # accepted allots for several hundred students needing an
alternative
