dining catering
Love to eat delicious, quality food? Then you’re in luck! In 2011, the Princeton Review ranked JMU #5 of 376 colleges based on students’ evaluation of campus dining options.
When your event requires food, JMU will provide an enjoyable and memorable dining experience. You have the choice of utilizing our buffet-style dining halls or working with Special Events and Catering to customize your meals.
During the summer, there are two main dining halls open: East Campus Dining Hall and Gibbons Hall. Both locations offer endless food options from everyone’s favorite food classics (such as grilled cheese, pasta, and homemade ice cream) to healthy and vegetarian options (such as fresh salads, baked potatoes, and flavorful sandwiches).
Your event’s meeting and lodging locations, in addition to personal preference, determine which dining hall your party will use. Upon arrival, your guests receive JMU Conference Cards that they can use to enter the dining hall during designated mealtimes.
JMU Special Events and Catering is a full-service and licensed beverage provider. They offer a variety of options for your event’s needs, ranging from casual snacks to a full 3-course meal. If your event calls for an informal meal on the go, tasteful boxed meals may be an appealing alternative for you.
For more information, please visit:
www.jmu.edu/dining
Note: Not all facilities listed on the JMU Dining website are available for summer conferences.

Each group has a Conference Assistant (CA) who will assist with planning your event and host your group during your stay. The CAs responsibilities include:
Room RostersIf staying overnight, the assigned CA will provide you with a room roster. The roster will include your list of participants, taking into consideration any special room requests.
Check-In/Check-Out ProceduresCAs will be present at both check-in and check-out, having on hand the room roster, key and meal cards, and any other materials you request. The locations for check-in and check-out are prearranged by you and your CA.
Optional Linen ServiceAll rooms have pillows and rooms in air-conditioned residence halls will also have blankets. If requested, we can provide additional linens for your conference guests. These requests must be prearranged in your conference contract. Our standard linen package includes two sheets, one pillowcase, two towels, and one washcloth. Fresh towels are provided twice a week for stays longer than three nights.
Meal GuaranteesThe Guarantee Form confirms the minimum number of people using Dining Services for each meal and is due at least two weeks prior to your event. The CA will send the completed form to Dining Services and provide guests with meal cards at check-in that they will use to gain entry to the dining halls.
Campus Directional SignageThe assigned CA will arrange directional signs to guide participants to their check-in location once they arrive on campus.
Parking/TransportationJMU Parking Services assigns specific parking lots for summer conference groups. Smaller groups typically require parking passes, which are either distributed upon arrival or mailed to the sponsor prior to the event. Larger groups can have an entire lot reserved for the duration of the conference. Your CA will arrange for your group to park as close as possible to the conference location. We can provide shuttle service and buses for excursions with advance notice.
Facility SetupsCAs are in charge of setting up rooms according to your requests. This includes catered meals and breaks, general sessions, recreational activities, etc. Your assistant will also coordinate any audio-visual and technology needs for your conference. We can help you make rental arrangements for anything that is outside of standard room equipment.
