There are no doubtsabout the fact that 2016has been a year of
some path-breaking eventsand sharp twists and turns.The year has been productiveand has also seen somedownfalls. But as they say, allis well that ends well, and itis time to bid farewell to 2016.Here is a look at the top HRtrends that redefined thepeople management functionin 2016, enlisted by someexperts in the field.
Summing up the year thatis ending, Adarsh Mishra,CHRO Panasonic India,expresses, "The year 2016 hasbeen productive from an HRperspective as the businessclimate within the industry
has increased considerably.With the implementation ofthe 7th pay commission and agood monsoon season, wehave seen the businessecosystem really expandwholesomely this year. This,in turn, augmented therecruitment process as wellin the industry which alsosaw an increase in lateralhiring. Generally, consumerelectronic companies elevatepeople internally to fill outthe vacant positions acrossdivisions, but with thegrowing competition in themarket and expandingcapabilities of doingbusiness, lateral hiring wasseen in full flow in 2016.
Naresh Sharma, managingpartner, Antal InternationalIndia shares his views on thegrowth trajectory of various
industries in 2016, "India'slogistics and supply chainindustry is witnessing arapid growth in both, B2Cand B2B domains. In the pastyear, we saw lots of e-commerce players gettingtheir business on the growthtrajectory and we have seenan increase in demand ofprofessionals in supply chainfunctions. Though thesentiments in the e-commerce industry in thesecond half of 2016 saw amajor downturn with hiringfreeze by giants, there was asteady requirement by otherplayers in the domain.Government's ‘Make inIndia’ programme also isboosting sentiments in theindustry and we have seen apositive traction inmanufacturing including
automotive. The retail sectorhas also seen demandpicking up leading toenhanced activities in themanufacturing anddistribution space."
According to ThammaiahBN, managing director, KellyServices India, start-ups thatwere the poster boys ofrecruitment in the past yearwent easy on volume hiring,particularly in theecommerce sector. Most ofthe start-ups invested inhiring sales and marketingtalent. "IT companiesembraced automation infullest measure possible thisyear leading to lower hiringparticularly at the bottom ofthe pyramid. However, weare seeing continuedsignificant demand from ITdue to high levels of attrition(2 to 8 years workexperience). The fall in oilprices meant banks put asqueeze on hiring. Pharmasector continued to berecession proof devoid ofany impact. Traditionalconsumer and FMCGcompanies saw some talentmoving to online retail."
