A Message from Fr. PhilipBrothers and Sisters,

Psalm 121 is one of my favorites and a great reminder to all of us this weekend to seek the Lord and request his help in all circumstances.

I lift up my eyes toward the mountains;whence shall help come to me?My help is from the LORD,who made heaven and earth.

The mountains remind us of the strength and majesty of the Almighty as well as his enduring love for us. We witness Joshua defeating his enemies as Moses raises his arms in prayerful supplication. And we hear Jesus instructing us to persevere in prayer as the widow did with her request before the unjust judge.

How often do we pray - as individuals and together with our families? Again I implore us to set aside time regularly to go to God and seek his help and guidance. Let us especially pray for:

1.The unity of the church and the reunification of the Christian family2.The unity of our families and our parish family; for growth in holiness3.For the USA and the election of our next president guided by our Christian values4.For the successful growth of our parish - increasing our participation in ministries to the needy, building our new Church, and strengthening our faith formation and family ministries.

Our God is faithful, providing for us. May we seek to know and do his will.

In Christ,Fr. Philip Wilhite, Pastor

"You can't go to heaven hating somebody. Forgive now. Be compassionate now. Be patient now. Be grateful now. Love Jesus and Mary now. Accept God's will now."— Mother Angelica

Today’s Liturgy

29th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Today we have gathered to pray, as we do every Sunday, at the invitation of the Lord our God. It is necessary for us to do this, for without it we cannot reinforce who we are and whose we are. Jesus tells us today that our continual prayer does indeed make a difference, and that it is the one way to make sure that there will still be faith on earth when he returns. So let us pray, today and always, and pray, and pray.

Stewardship ReflectionReflexion de Mayordomía

29th Sunday in Ordinary Time

That we may be persistent in our stewardship, even when it is not convenient or comfortable.

“…be persistent whether it is convenient or inconvenient...” 2 Timothy 4:2

It is not always convenient to be a good steward, especially when all the temptations of our busy and materialistic world get in the way. Now add our own pride and ego into the equation and living a stewardship lifestyle may be downright uncomfortable! Remember, God didn’t call us to be comfortable. He called us to be faithful.

Vocations Ministry Happy Priesthood Sunday!

The Vocations Ministry invites you to celebrate Priesthood Sunday (October 30) and to place your spiritual bouquet in the box provided in the church narthex. We give thanks every day for our priests, but this is a day set aside each year to recognize their duty and devotion to their flock.

For the next three weeks, we want to highlight one of our priests and offer special thanksgiving prayers for him. Let’s start with our pastor, Fr Philip Wilhite.

It’s no surprise that Fr Philip is a product of Catholic education in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, having graduated from St. Pius X High School and the University of St. Thomas, studying both in Houston and Rome. He is the youngest of nine children, which probably explains why he is such a prankster! But, there is also a kind and gentle side to him, like his favorite saint, Francis of Assisi. Most parishioners will readily remember his selfless act of generosity when he won a Spring Fest raffle drawing, only to give the top prize to one of the other priests! If he invites you to lunch or dinner, bring along your appetite for Mexican food. And, if the conversation turns to music, better brush up on a variety of genres, including 50’s, 60’s, 80’s and good old country music!

Thank you, Fr Philip, today and every day, for your compassion and kindness! St. Fiacre Garden Ministry

Come to our Garden Workday on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, 8am to Noon all around the parish. For more information please contact Diane Cabiness at 936.447.1886.

St. Vincent de Paul

October 16, 2016 – Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time

The parable in today’s Gospel emphasizes the importance of constant prayer even when we are exhausted. The widow in the parable is very persistent in her request for the dishonest judge’s assistance. And because the judge is only worried about himself, he decides to help her so that she will leave him alone. Thankfully God is not that way! He doesn’t want us to leave Him alone. Because God is just and concerned for the rights of the downtrodden, persistent prayer always leads to justice. He wants our constant and unceasing prayer - the place and time do not matter, only that we are aware of God’s abiding

presence and blessings in our everyday busyness. We need to remember to pray with our hearts and our heads. Prayer must be an expression of the love that is in us for God, for His world, for His Church and for those who have so much less than we have, namely, His poor.

During the month of September 2016 through your gifts, The Society of St Vincent de Paul gave out 38,250 lbs. of food with an equivalent amount $66,254. We spent $6,056 for housing to prevent eviction or homelessness, $6,396 to stop utility disconnection, and $998 for medical. The Clothes Closet provided vouchers for clothing with an equivalent value of $16,070.

Would you like to serve the poor with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul but work during the week? St. Vincent de Paul is open on Saturday mornings from 10am to noon to provide food and clothes to those who we serve who are unable to get to us during the week. We are in need of volunteers to work the reception desk, to hand out groceries, to provide assistance in the Clothes Closet and interview those the Lord sends to us. You can schedule to work once a week, twice a month, or whatever fits your schedule. Call us at 936.539.1188 Monday-Thursday 10am-3pm or email [email protected] if you are interested or would like more information.
