FONHARE HAS A NEW LOCATION!
TAX EXEMPT STATUS
FONHARE NEWSLETTER
at Cite Tibo, in Ouanaminthe.
This new clinic will allow us more space for treat-
ment and storage, increased interaction with the
community, and greater opportunity to implement
new programs. We look forward to the future of
FONHARE!
This past year has seen some changes for
FONHARE. Our patient volume has in-
creased significantly, creating an issue of
not having adequate space for our thera-
pists to work or for our patients waiting
area. In order to provide the optimum
care for our patients, create a welcoming
and comfortable environment, and in-
crease our access to the community, a
move to a larger space was necessary.
We were able to take all of our equip-
ment, supplies, and structural components
with us to our new site which allowed us
to complete our renovations quickly. We
are pleased to announce our new location
with USAID, and communicating with
the Ministry of Planification and Extern
Cooperation in Haiti.
The American Board of Directors has
been working hard to secure tax de-
ductible fundraising capabilities in the
U.S. and we are excited to announce
that FONHARE has received our
501c3 tax exempt status with the IRS!
They have made this retroactive to
December 5, 2013. That means that any
donations you have made since that date
may be exempt from taxes.
FONHARE’s Haitian Board of Directors
has also been very active in promoting
FONHARE with local business leaders in
the community, building our partnership
DID YOU KNOW?
FONHARE conducts a weekly
radio program educating Hai-
tians on disabilities, rehabilita-
tion, and community integra-
tion. Our outreach is from
northeast Haiti to areas past
Cap Haitian. A copy of the ra-
dio program is also re-broadcast
every week in Gonaives, Ivens’
home town.
GREETINGS!
SUMMER/FALL 2014
In April FONHARE was able to conduct a mobile clinic in Bayonais, the
section of Gonaives where Ivens was raised. This mobile clinic was con-
ducted by medical doctors, a physical therapist/occupational therapist, and
nurses, as well as the active participation of community leaders. Three hun-
dred citizens from this area benefited from free medical evaluations, ther-
apy exercises and training, and medicines.
Ivens was very happy to serve those individuals who first saw him grow up.
FONHARE’s objective is to organize at least two mobile clinics in differ-
ent areas but we can’t meet this objective due to lack of resources. Please
consider donating to FONHARE to help support our mobile clinic.
LAURIE DEGRAVE VOLUNTEERS FROM FRANCE
MOBILE CLINIC IN BAYONAIS, GONAIVES
Page 2 FONHARE NEWSLETTER
FONHARE was happy to welcome Lau-
rie Degrave from Rennes, France as our
summer volunteer this year. She has been
instrumental in helping to establish part-
nerships with organizations in France and
to develop a project that will widely ex-
pand our Independent Living Program. It
is with this support that FONHARE
hopes to provide a broad range of ser-
vices to citizens in Ouanaminthe and be-
yond, promote the respect for human
rights throughout Haiti, distribute durable
medical equipment to those who desper-
ately need it, and develop partnerships
with schools and professionals for school
and employment integration.
Now back at home, Laurie is still promot-
ing FONHARE, speaking to organiza-
tions there and making contacts on behalf
of FONHARE to universities and other
entities.
Thank you Laurie for all your hard work
and enthusiasm for FONHARE’s mission.
We are excited to have you on our team!
THE FUTURE OF REHAB IN HAITI
FONHARE VISITS THE USA!!
We are now moving toward the next
phase of FONHARE’s future and the
plans for the building of our second clinic
in the city of Gonaives. We are looking
to secure funding for the construction of
the clinic. Gonaives is located in the
Artibonite Department on the northwest
coast of Haiti. It is the hometown of
Ivens Louius, FONHARE’s founder and
director.
This new clinic will serve the population
of Gonaives and beyond, well over
300,000 people.

FONHARE has established a new partnership with a university in Belgium. Haute Ecole Léonard de Vinci - Parnasse Deux Alice is
located in Brussels, Belgium and has a high reputation for their international collaborations. They will be sending three OT students
to FONHARE for a clinical practice internship in November. We welcome them and look forward to a new exchange program!
Ivens and his wife Leslie were able to
travel to the United States in February
to attend the Combined Sections Meet-
ing of the APTA in Las Vegas, Nevada.
While there, they were able to promote
FONHARE, meet and network with
many PT clinicians, educators and lead-
ers, and get a taste of American culture
and cuisine!

school integration. FONHARE continues to create awareness
