C. Stephen Metzler Hall at the Folly TheaterStephen Metzler was a champion for the Folly for more than thirty-five years. He wanted no acclaim other than having helped secure the lasting success of “Kansas City’s Carnegie Hall.” But his practical side would understand the premise of a combined named hall with named seats, so that all who enjoy and appreciate the Folly can find their role in its future… and in sustaining the theater forever.

Steve’s name evokes memories of unbridled energy, passion and a steadfast commitment to the things he held dear: family, faith, community, and of course, the performing arts. Philanthropist, arts advocate, business leader and dear friend – Steve Metzler was a man of service.

For decades, Steve lent his name to many Folly roles and causes, including board and advisory board member, president, treasurer, gala founder, event chair, advocate and advisor. If Steve’s name was behind an event, it was destined to be a success.

Steve’s greatest wish for the Folly Theater was to establish the Folly Forever Fund that would ensure the long-term sustainability of the building he loved so much. The C. Stephen Metzler Hall at the Folly Theater will be named such when the Folly Forever Fund, including monies raised by the Seat Naming Campaign, reaches a total of $1 million.

Those who intimately knew Steve Metzler know this favored quote. Steve was a man of equal parts conviction and commitment. He gave his heart to those efforts and organizations that shared his vision of changing life for the better. And he did so with a smile, a twinkle in his eye, and perhaps a cocktail in his hand. As it’s been for over a century, the Folly Theater’s destiny is to change our community’s cultural landscape, one seat at a time. Your contribution to the permanent endowment for the Folly is part of the legacy that lives on, a link between you and the artists and remarkable artistic experiences at this exceptional and historic theater.

Changing the world, one cocktail party at a time.

Passion, commitment, philanthropy, legacy and the power of the arts.

Oh, the Names We’ve Seen and HeardAl Jolson, Gypsy Rose Lee, Humphrey Bogart, Tempest Storm and Dizzy Gillespie were names that adorned the Folly marquee in years gone by. Today, the tradition continues with contemporary artists like Wynton Marsalis, Pat Metheny, Bobby Watson, Rosanne Cash, Joyce DiDonato and Yo-Yo Ma. And of course, the name that brought the grace of dance to the Folly stage, Alvin Ailey.

The Folly Theater is Kansas City’s oldest historic performing arts venue. It’s stature, elegance and beauty is like no other. Today, we celebrate the past with reverence and look toward the future with renewed vigor and enthusiasm.

Your Name AwaitsWe are excited to announce one of our most important initiatives in recent history,a campaign to create a permanent endowment through seat naming and the creation of the C. Stephen Metzler Hall at the Folly Theater.

The Folly Forever For more than 116 years the Folly has been a cornerstone of the Kansas City arts and architectural scene and an essential element in the revitalization of downtown. The exterior’s reclaimed stature and beauty must now be accompanied by contemporary improvements to the theater’s infrastructure and amenities. The endowment created to secure the Folly’s future will benefit directly from your contribution to the seat naming campaign.

The enclosed seating map highlights seat naming opportunities and investment suggestions, as well as rights, privileges and restrictions. Public recognition of seat naming will be significant. So too will be the heartfelt expressions of gratitude from all who experience this cultural treasure of our city.
