#washwoodheath CELEBRATION EVENING

The academy held its annual awards event: Celebration Evening!

The assembled crowd settled down to the welcoming speech from our Head of Academy, Mrs Heather McLach-lan.

This year we were honored to have two very influential speakers from the business world. Raaj Shamji, who emerged in his gallant Toast Master Regalia looking stupen-dous, took to the stage to speak about the ‘importance of celebrations’. His key message was to stay focused on mak-ing progress and to strive forward at all times, no matter how tough the journey gets.

Our second speaker, Saqib Bhatti, elected president of The Asian Business Cham-ber of Commerce, shared his journey to help inspire students and convey to par-ents that they pay an equal measure in the success of their child's future as co-educators.

Saqib Bhatti applauded the school band on their performance on the night. It

MEDIA STUDIES INTO FILM FESTIVAL

As part of the Into Film Festival, a free festival that encourages young people to engage with film, Mr Grifiths (Media) took a group of post 16 students to watch Fresh Dressed: a documentary. Fresh Dressed is a fascinating chronicle of hip-hop, urban fashion, and its rise from southern cotton plantations to the gangs of 1970s. Fresh Dressed goes to the heart of where style was born in the South Bronx.

LLOYDS SCHOOL TO WORK PROGRAMME

Lloyds Banking Group - Discover What Matters -

School to Work Programme was delivered to our

year 10 students by Lloyds staff.

The programme adds real value by opening up dis-

cussions around personal development and the

skills and behaviours needed when entering the

workplace. During the programme, students also

gained a better understanding of the financial sec-

tor and its career opportunities.

CHILDREN IN NEED

Staff at Washwood Heath Academy rallied together like a true family to

help raise money for Children In Need. Staff said, ‘It helps to educate us

on the importance of giving to those less fortunate’.

Children in Need supports children and young people with disabilities and

life-limiting conditions. We, as a cohesive school society, feel that we need

to be doing as much as we can to help and be thankful at the same time.

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS CONCERT

The Washwood Heath Multi Academy Trust Annual Christmas Concert featured the School Orchestra and Choir, the String group and Big band as well as small groups and soloists, performing a wide range of music genres, including some recent hits, rock classics, orches-tral arrangements and of course the occasional Christ-mas carol, there

was something for everyone. The hall was packed with parents and mem-bers of the community who came out to show their support.
