It was natural for her, as her breeding facility progressed, to look for trends in the equine market and try to meet the needs of her clients. What she saw was that although she was producing wonderful horses, people were drawn to flashy colors and versatile horses that could be trained in many disciplines. Her clientele began to move toward people who had time and money to devote to a pursuit, and loved golden Sporthorses. Catherine began to investigate several breeds, looking for a cremello mare that she could breed to her stallion and produce palomino or buckskin foals. After months of searching for a mare, she saw a 4-month-old cremello colt and adjusted her plans. Buying a young horse can be a gamble, especially when looking for a stallion that will support a breeding program, but Catherine was not disappointed in Raleighs Full Moon. Nine years later, Raleighs Full Moon has already proven to be a winner, and keeps getting better. Graceful and leggy, he has a big, cadenced movement, a willing mind for training, and a gentle temperament for breeding. “He’s just such a good horse. When Raleighs Full Moon was three, he became ill and had to be in his stall for four months. I was never afraid to go in with him and he proved to me then that he was trustworthy and kind,” Catherine said. “I can’t say that about a lot of stallions.” Although Raleighs Full Moon has the Quarter horse pedigree, his unusual height, long neck and Sporthorse conformation made him a perfect candidate for registering with the American Warmblood Registry. In 2006 he was licensed and approved. This October several of his get will be attending an inspection. To prove his trainability and athleticism, Catherine chose dressage for Raleighs Full Moon’s training, since his natural movement and overall willingness to please fit well with the discipline. As wonderful as Raleighs Full Moon is, his babies are the main attraction for Catherine. He has sired over 150 foals nationwide, every one buckskin or palomino. He is producing elegant, tall, athletic horses with good attitudes and trainable minds. Several of his sons and daughters are competing successfully in the Sporthorse arenas. In California, a six year-old 16+ hand, buckskin gelding, has won multiple Regional and National Championships in Dressage, Show Hack, Sport Horse Under Saddle and Hunter/Jumper classes. A palomino mare has done very well in In-Hand Sport Horse competitions in New York. On the West coast, there is a palomino In-Hand champion as well. Focus On Our BreedersMoonrock Sport Horses

When Catherine McCall established Moonrock Horses in 1991, she already had spent a few years selling everything from real estate to fine art. It was natural for her, as her breeding facility progressed, to look for trends in the equine market and try to meet the needs of her clients.

What she saw was that although she was producing wonderful horses, people were drawn to flashy colors and versatile horses that could be trained in many disciplines. Her clientele began to move toward people who had

time and money to devote to a pursuit, and loved golden Sporthorses.

Graceful and leggy, he has a big, cadenced movement, a willing

mind for training, and a gentle temperament for breeding.

“He’s just such a good horse. When Raleighs Full Moon was three, he became ill and had to be in his stall for four months. I was never afraid to go in with him and he proved to me then that he was trustworthy and kind,” Catherine said. “I can’t say that about a lot of stallions.”

Although Raleighs Full Moon has the Quarter horse pedigree, his unusual height, long neck and Sporthorse conformation made him a perfect candidate for registering with the American Warmblood Registry. In 2006 he was licensed and approved. This October several of his get will be attending an inspection. “My focus is to breed individuals,” Catherine explains. “We can’t get so focused on who a foal’s grandparents were that we overlook who the individual is. Does he have correct conformation? Athleticism? A sound mind? These are extremely important qualities.”

In keeping with her commitment to breeding individual horses, Catherine offers her personal services to those who want to buy Raleighs Full Moon’s foals or his services. She is available to help market offspring for sale, and loves to hear updates on the foals Raleighs Full Moon has sired. Clients can even send her pictures to post on her website, www.MoonrockSportHorses.com.

With an eye on the equine market, Catherine’s goal is simple: to stimulate the industry by producing desirable horses. Moonrock Sport Horses is dedicated to the quality of their horses and to enriching the quality of their clients’ lives.

Moonrock Sport Horses is located in San Martin, CA, at 11891 De Paul Circle. You may contact Catherine McCall by phone at 408-683-2502, or by email at [email protected].

Wendy Staub reports: the two year old filly Beste 4 Me MRF (pictured left, photo credit Barrie Reightler) (Beste Gold/Gephallen Mir- Owner/Breeder: Wendy Staub) was Grand Champion and Junior Champion of the Non-Thoroughbred Hunter class at the Maryland State Fair.
