VERTICAL NAVIGATION
1. VNAV Switch
Push – VNAV switch light illuminates Pitch mode annunciates VNAV SPD, VNAV PTH A/T mode annunciates FMC SPD, N1, RETARD, or ARM IAS/MACH display blanks and airspeed cursors positioned to FMC commanded airspeed.
VNAV ModeThe FMC commands AFDS pitch and autothrottle to fly vertical profile selected on FMC CDU’s. Profile includes climb, cruise, descent, speeds, and can also include waypoint altitude constraints.
Note: If the airplane is between the FMC target altitude (depicted on the RTE LEGS page for the active waypoint) and the manually entered MCP target altitude, VNAV will not engage. To enable VNAV, adjust the FMC or MCP target altitude as appropriate.
Climb -• autothrottle holds FMC thrust limit• AFDS holds FMC target speed• automatic level-off occurs at MCP altitude or VNAV altitude, whichever
is reached first VNAV constrained level-off annunciates VNAV PTH.

1. LINE SELECT KEYS-If you look at each side of the FMC DISPLAY SCREEN you will see there are 6 Buttons on the LEFT (LSL1Buttons on the RIGHT (LSR1-6).

INIT REF-This button is used to navigate through the FMC. It will bring up Reference pages and will also enable you to input all aspect’s of your flight. You can access the Index page from here as well.
RTE-This will allow you to access or enter your ROUTE. Using this page you can enter your Destination or Departure Airport, runways, select company, enter airways and also modify your Route of flight.
CLB-This is the Climb page, from here you can alteand rate of the Climb.
CRZ-This brings up the CRUISE page. You can change the Cruise Altitude, Cruise Speed. Shows distance to go to FMC calculated TOD point
DES-This is the DECENT page. From here you can view or change Decent Speed’s, Descent Type, Top of Decent
MENU-This page will bring up SUB System’s of the FMC
LEGS-From here you can enter or delete waypoint information and view the Route of Flight. In plan mode you can step through each leg of the flight plan
DEP/ARR-This page will give you access to Airport Runway Selection as well as SID’s and STAR’s for entry into flight plan.

PROG-This is the Progress page. From here you can see how the flight is going. You will see Last Waypoint Crossed and at what time as well as Fuel at that point. Distance to Next Waypoint with an ETA as well as Fuel at that point as well as the following waypoint with an ETA. You will also see an Estimate for your Arrival Airport as well as Fuel at Destination.
EXEC-The EXECUTE key. Initial inputs and changes made in the FMC may require you to EXECUTE to confirm the inputs so that the changes you make takes effect. A light will appear above this button to highlight the fact you need to EXECUTE something you have done.
N1 LIMIT-This will give you access to control Engine Thrust Limit’s allowing for derated thrust settings

PERF INITOn this page you enter the following information by typing the value into the scratchpad and line selecting the appropriate position
1. Enter the zero fuel weight. Once this is done the GW KG (Gross Weight ZFW + FUEL KG) will automatically be entered
2. Enter the RESERVE KG of 2.0. This is the Fuel reserve
3. Enter the COST INDEX. The Cost INDEX is an economy scale between 0 and 200. 0 is the most economic (min fuel) and 200 results in minimum flight time
4. Enter the flight planned cruise altitude as a Flight Level or in 000’s of feet

HOLD
Press the HOLD key
This page will allow you to create a hold over a given point
The first HOLD page brings up the active route legs and gives you two extra prompts
1. Hold At. Enter here the waypoint you wish to hold at or line from above
2. Hold at present position (Non Functional)

In this example we have entered WARDS to hold at. The HOLD page now displays the MOD RTE HOLD and gives us options to setup the hold
1. Fix we plan to hold at
2. Turn direction of the hold
3. Inbound Course to the hold
4. Leg time
5. Leg distance (if needed)
6. Erase, if you want to remove the hold
7. Target speed for the hold
8. Hold Armed, line select here after you have entered all the details of the hold to arm it

The MOD RTE LEGS page is now indicating a hold at WARDS. Press EXECute to save this into the flight plan and make the hold page show ACT RTE LEGS as below

We have now entered the hold at WARDS. When ready to exit the hold line select EXIT HOLD at 1
After pressing exit hold select where you want to track to next, if it is just WARDS then press EXECute and it will carry on with the flight plan route.
