The hogs damage Fort Rucker’s natural resources and training lands and pre- sent a danger to personnel who encounter the animals in the field. This program is in- tended to minimize the adverse the impacts from the feral hogs while also providing hunting opportunities for local residents. Prior to signing up for the program, volun- teers must have an Alabama hunting license and a Fort Rucker hunting permit . Vol- unteers must set traps in locations assigned by NRB, monitor the trap daily when the trigger is set, and notify wildlife personnel of game numbers on a weekly/monthly basis. NRB provides a 50-lb bag of corn per trap per week to each of the volunteer trappers. Volunteers must follow Fort Rucker Regulation 215-1 , which contains the most up to date rules for hunting and trapping on the installation. For more information, personnel may contact Doug Watkins, Chief, NRB, at 255-9363 or Danny Spillers, Fish and Wildlife Biologist, at 255-2416. www.fortrucker-env.com SIGNIFICANT ASPECTS A nation that destroys its soils destroys itself. Roosevelt Internal EPAS and EMS Audit: 7-11 APR 14 The installation-wide internal EPAS, which includes an EMS Audit, is scheduled for the week of 7 APR 14. We will conduct compliance inspections for representative activities across the installation while also reviewing the implementation of the EMS. To prepare for the audit, ensure that your Environmental Binder (see EMS-WI-EM001) is up to date and that all personnel attend required training courses (see the schedule on the next page). Be sure to close out any findings from quarterly compliance inspections to prevent repeat findings. We will send out details about completing USAACE Form 2704, Internal Audit Interview Checklist, for your organization the week before the audit. Any EO/EPOC who turns in completed questionnaires by 9 APR will receive an additional entry in the drawing at the Earth Day Expo on 22 APR. Significant Aspects The annual review of the installation’s activities, prod- ucts, and services to determine the significant aspects was completed at the October EMS Implementation Team meeting. Although the list of activities was up- dated, these changes did not result in any modifica- tion to the list of significant aspects. The Garrison Commander reviewed and approved the proposed list during the management review. The list of significant aspects can be found at the bottom of this page. EMS Management Review The review was completed on for 7 NOV 13 with the Garrison Commander. It covered all elements of the EMS specified in ISO14001, including progress on meeting objectives and targets, status of inspection findings, changes in regulations, and the overall envi- ronmental status. The outputs from the review were a continued focus on the recycling program and addi- tional information about how energy projects tie in with the EMS.

Recycling Program Updates Some good news about continual improvement to the recycling program: We recently distributed 40 recycling bins

across the installation to increase the collec-tion of plastic and aluminum

We now have a roll-off container at the re-cycling center to collect scrap metal

We added a container at the Ammo Supply Point residue yard to the collect ASP metal, which should help improve collection of our largest revenue generating recyclable

Federal Leadership in Energy Management On 5DEC13, President Obama issued a memo that establishes a new goal for renewable ener-gy. By fiscal year 2020, to the extent economi-cally feasible and technically practicable, 20 per-cent of the total amount of electric energy con-sumed by each agency during any fiscal year shall be renewable energy. The Fort Rucker en-ergy program will work to achieve this goal by implementing the following actions, in priority order: 1. Installing agency-funded renewable energy

on-site at Federal facilities and retain renew-able energy certificates;

2. Contracting for energy that includes the in-stallation of a renewable energy project on-site at a Federal facility or off-site from a Federal facility and the retention of renewa-ble energy certificates for the term of the contract;

3. Purchasing electricity and corresponding re-newable energy certificates; and

4. Purchasing renewable energy certificates.
