EXPLICT IMPROVEMENT AGENDA -ATTENDANCE

Chappy news

Most children believe that they are “a good friend”, but don’t automacally have the skills needed to ac-

tually BE friendly. In the P-3 class we are thinking about the things we should always do, besides the obvi-

ous ones of sharing the conversaon, listening, using manners, and smiling.

Friendly people remember to praise their friends when they do something well. They do helpful things

for others (without expecng return), and always give back things they’ve borrowed quickly.

Friendly people think about other people’s feelings before they speak (if you can’t think of something

nice, be quiet!). If they have a disagreement, they try to work it out quickly. They are ready to try other

people’s ideas, not always needing to be the boss.

Friendly people remember that their friends have a right to their own opinion – you don’t have to agree

about everything to be friends.

In coming weeks we’ll be talking about things we should try NOT to do if we want to be a good friend!

How wonderful it is to see our attendance data improving, well done everyone!

Let’s work together to improve our school attendance data in term 3.

Could everyone please ensure student contact details are up to date so we can call and find out why a child is absent? This will help decrease our unexplained absenteeism.

If we can help with attendance difficulties, please come and have a talk with us.

4/5/6 CLASS CAPERS

Prep/1/2/3 Class Capers

Dear Parents and Caretakers the following information is designed to keep you up to date with what your students are learning in our class this term.

English Unit for term 3

Examining traditional stories

In this unit students read and analyse traditional stories from Asia and from Aboriginal peoples' and Torres Strait Islander peoples' histories and cultures. They demonstrate understanding of the stories by identifying structural and language features, finding literal and inferred meaning and explaining the message or moral. Students plan, create and present a traditional story which includes a moral for a younger audience.

Throughout the unit, all students have opportunities to develop their higher-order thinking skills. Students develop skills in thinking when they are encouraged to reflect, inquire, generate, and analyse, synthesise and evaluate.

Throughout this unit, students will require ready access to ICT.

Math Units for Term 3

Year 4 Money and financial mathematics (MFM) - represent, calculate and round amounts of money required for purchases and change

Number and place value (NPV) - model and interpret number representations, sequence number values, apply number concepts and place

value understanding to the calculation of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, develop fluency with multiplication fact families,

apply mental and written computation strategies, recall multiplication and division facts and apply place value to partition and regroup num-

bers to assist calculations Fractions and decimals (FD) - partition to create fraction families, identify, model and represent equivalent fractions, count by fractions, solve

simple calculations involving fractions with like denominators, model and represent tenths and hundredths, make links between fractions

and decimals, count by decimals, compare and sequence decimals Location and transformation (LT) - investigate different types of symmetry, analyse and create symmetrical designs Using units of measurement (UUM) - use scaled instruments to measure and compare length, mass, capacity and temperature, measure are-

as using informal units and investigate standard units of measurement Shape (S) - compare the areas of regular and irregular shapes using informal units of area measurement Patterns and algebra (PA) - use equivalent addition and subtraction number sentences to find unknown quantities.

All students will be bringing home a science sheet about how your family use water at your home. The task is very

simple to do and we will collect all student's data to make a graph about the variety of water uses at different

homes. Please ask (tell them to do it!) your child if this le3er and task hasn't surfaced by Friday this week as it is

due back no later than Monday 27th.

The 'Deadly Australians' presentaon on Tuesday was brilliant and the students seemed to learn a lot, considering

the amount of quesons that they asked the presenter and facts and quesons I am now receiving. So we are

going to be wring informaon texts about some of the animals we saw or talked about at Deadly Australians. I

will send home a copy of your child's completed one so you can share in the excitement.

Math focus for the next couple of weeks is me (reading a clock and digital me, o'clock and half and quarter past

for the older students, days of the week, months) and addion and subtracon strategies. A clock tends to cause

some confusion for a while with most

children so if you get the opportunity

please discuss what 'the me' is with your

child at home, including minutes and hour

hands.

Does anyone need a hand with sorng a

costume for World Expo Day? ....happy to

help with ideas if you let me know.

Lastly, with the cold snap we are gather-

ing a stockpile of jumpers, tracksuit pants

and so on at school. Could you PLEASE

check your child's clothing is labelled so

we can return it to them when we find

them under trees, in covered play areas,

on verandas, in other student's desks and

even on/under my desk!

have a lovely week

Stasia Abraham
