A programme for leadership development of local organisations and social entrepreneurs What is this programme about? SNV Netherlands Development Organisation is pleased to announce the launch of its Leadership Enhancement Action Programme targeting local development organisations and social enterprises that provide capacity building or business development support to other local development actors. Through this leadership programme, SNV offers an opportunity to leaders of these organisations and enterprises to strengthen leadership competencies related to market positioning and overall sustainability. The core of this Leadership Programme is focused on developing the participants’ business management skills. It is about the ability to develop a sound business case; to lead a sustainable business; improve products and services that contribute to pro-poor development and increase access to basic services, employment opportunities and income. Why this programme? For the functioning and success of organisations, leadership is core. Leaders have the primary responsibility to develop and organise relevant, effective and healthy organisations. Leaders of development organisations and social businesses have the added responsibility of balancing the financial sustainability of the organisation while keeping an eye on the social objectives. These challenges require specific knowledge, skills and attitudes that will be fostered by this programme. How will the programme be organised? Participants of the training will work together in a group of around 25 people. This six-month programme will consist of two, one week long, face- to-face training workshops with colleagues from different countries. The gap between the two training sessions will be approximately 5 months. In between these two trainings, there will be on the job support provided by Senior SNV Advisors. This will provide an environment to explore the issues that have been learnt in the training and put them into practice. A personalised coaching session with a professional independent coach will also be offered once a month. The programme also depends on peer to peer learning (from trainee to trainee). A programme for leadership development of local organisations and social entrepreneurs

What is this programme about?

How will the programme be organised?Participants of the training will work together in a group of around 25 people. This six-month programme will consist of two, one week long, face-to-face training workshops with colleagues from different countries.

Leadership Enhancement Action Programme

Who can participate in the programme? The programme is meant for formal and informal leaders of development organisations, (social) businesses that are working together with SNV and whose mandate will last at least for another two years. Those who are interested in participating should have a leadership position within their organisation and should be in a position to participate in the entire programme. The trainees should be in a position to practice the lessons learnt in the program within their own organisation. Specific selection criteria apply – the detailed list can be obtained from the SNV Country Office.

Future

SNV intends to continually evolve and improve the Leadership Programme based on their experience in 2015. This is because SNV strongly believes that building the capacity and entrepreneurial spirit of local organisations is a crucial way to address poverty and to bring about sustainable change.

How can you apply?

There are a limited number of positions available per country. The selection process will be implemented by SNV country offices. The process will be transparent and professional. A selection committee will screen the applications and invite a limited number of potential participants for an assessment. Those who are interested can apply by submitting their CV and a motivation letter to the local SNV Country Programme Manager of the Leadership Programme. The final decision will be made by the SNV Country Director.
