Who can apply? 1. Must be a senior graduating in 20122. Must have successfully completed at least one FLVS science
course with a grade of B or higher3. Must have successfully completed FLVS course(s) in 2011-

What is awarded? $500 Cash Scholarship Award award will be paid directly toyour matriculating postsecondary institution through theirfinancial aid office

Essay or Creative Product Prompt: Science for Tomorrow
Submit ONE of the following:
Essay in 300-500 words: The important thing in science is not so much to obtain new facts as
to discover new ways of thinking about them. Sir William Bragg
How can science be used to improve our world today, and why is it essential to study the
sciences? Please elaborate on concepts you learned in your FLVS science course.
OR
Creative Product: Use one of the Web 2.0 tools (YouTube, weebly, voicethread, etc.) to create a
PSA (Public Service Announcement) to describe why the study of science is important to the
future. In your PSA, please elaborate on concepts you learned in your FLVS science course.
Your essay/PSA will be judged on the following criteria:
Creativity (30 points) Expression (40 points) Science awareness, relevance to topic (20 points) Grammar/spelling (10 points)
Your Future PlansWrite a short paragraph (3-5 sentences) about your plans for college.

EIGHTEEN) OF Florida Virtual School, consent to the following, and hereby authorize Florida Virtual School and any
representatives to release and/or orally discuss the educational records and information described.
