FLUPROQUAZONE: efficacy equates withaspirin, tolerance equates with placebo
Fluproquazone (RF 46-790; Sandoz) is a non-steroidal antiinflammatory,a fluorinatedderivative of proquazone(the latterbeingcurrently available in Europe). In a 2-centrestudy,672patientswith episiotomyor other postoperative pain, weretreated with either fluproquazone 75-200mg,aspirin \OOOmgor placebo. Bothfluproquazone and aspirinweresignificantlysuperior to placebo. Fluproquazone hada rapidonset, peakaction around 2-3 houis and wasstill effective at 4 hours. Thehigher doses(I SO.200mg) tendedto be rather moreeffectivethan aspirin while 75-\ OOmg tendedto beslightlylesseffective. Remedication with analgesic within 4 hours ofadministrationoccurred in 57% on placebo, 17% on aspirinand 14-25% on fluproquazone depending on dose. Aspirincausedtypicalsideeffects in 17% of cases, placebo in 3.6%and fluproquazone in"33 %.Herrman, U. et al., ClinicalPharmacology and Therapeutics 27: 379(Mar1980)
