// Who are the PSA?

All parents of children at Sheen Mount School and members

of staff at the school, are automatically a member of the

PSA. Your membership begins on your child’s first day at the school and ends when your last child leaves us.

The PSA Committee, which includes parents, teachers and governors, meets regularly to discuss events, fund raising and spending. All parents, carers and staff are welcome to attend

meetings.

// What do we do?

Our goal is to support the school community and raise key

funds for the school. This supports equipment and facilities

that are not normally funded by the local authority. The good news is that all the ways we do this involve a lot of fun for the children, parents and staff.

We hold various regular fund raising events throughout the

year which are detailed below and we’re always looking for new ideas for events – so if you have any bright ideas, big or small, please let us know.

Being an active member of the PSA does not have to take too

much of your time, offering to make coffee, serve at the bar or take tokens on a “Hook a Duck” stall at a fair for an hour once or twice a year is a very welcome contribution. It’s often mentioned that the children are very proud of their parents helping out

too.

// Where does the money raised go?

All profits made from PSA fund raising events go straight back into our school. We have had some great fund raising successes in the last few years which has led to wonderful items and more being contributed to our school.

We know we are very lucky to have all these extra things for our children and you will no doubt hear many stories from them about playtime fun on the climbing frame, using the interactive boards in the classrooms, fun sponsored science events and see the look of pride on their faces when they show you their ‘Star of the Day’ sticker – that makes it worth raising the money!

In times when school budgets are under pressure, the support we can give the school to continue to give our children the best environment possible is so valuable and appreciated by all concerned.

// Events

There are many fun events run through the school year, these are the key events we currently hold and we’re looking to add more:

The September Party - a fun evening of drinks and dancing for the parents, to welcome new parents and for all parents to celebrate the start of the new school year, always a popular evening!

The Christmas Fair - held in December this is fantastic fun for the children and includes many stalls, fair rides, games, arts and crafts, cakes, BBQ, bar and of course Santa’s Grotto.

Quiz Night – held in March this is popular with parents and staff alike looking to form a team and enjoy drinks and a quiz, this is a very informal and fun evening with a friendly competitive atmosphere.

Fun Run – a great family event, the runners follow a 5K route through Richmond Park which ends at the school for prize giving and well deserved refreshments. All ability levels are encouraged to enter and the children are always particularly proud of themselves.

Summer Fair – this is the final key event of the academic year which offers a huge amount of activities with bouncy castles, fair rides, games, toys, cakes, BBQ, bar, tombola, a raffle, silent auction and much more. There is usually a theme to the event and it really is a fun family day out.

// What can you do to help?

You can be involved as much or as little as you can, here are a few ways you can help the school:

* Volunteering at one of the events for an hour whether it’s serving at the bar, helping with arts and crafts, selling toys etc – all help is greatly appreciated.

* Offer to be a Class Rep for your child’s class – often teaming up with one or two other parents makes this an enjoyable role and provides a great support for all class members. Each year the class reps change so there’s lots of opportunities.

* Propose new ideas for fund raising, events or projects.

* Come along to PSA meetings.

* Match Funding - contact your employer regarding their policies on Match Funding with charities (Sheen Mount PSA is a registered charity). This can help boost our fund-raising activities giving us more for our school.

* Easy Fundraising - Register online with easyfundraising.org.uk (search for Sheen Mount Primary) and when you shop with linked retailers a % of your shop goes direct to our PSA charity - it doesn’t cost you a penny extra!!

* Spread the word! Even parents who have been in the school for a while can be unaware what amazing equipment and extras the school has received through all the hard work from parents and staff so please mention it at coffee mornings and drinks evenings to get the word out there.
