Noles eye return to NCAA elite at Indoor NationalsThe No. 7 Florida State men and No. 25 women arrive at Texas A&M’s Gilliam Indoor Track Center with enough firepower to post their best NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship finishes since 2014. 2018 NCAA Indoor NotesCoach Bob Braman’s women reappeared in the rankings at No. 22 follow-ing their ACC Indoor title and slipped back to No. 25 a week later. FSU’s women spent the entire 2015 season ranked in the Top 25 but had not been back until the penultimate poll of the current season.

Records tumble, top 10s roll inFour new school records highlight a 2018 makeover of Florida State’s indoor top 10 list. Veterans and newcomers alike contributed to 25 new entries; 14 on the men’s side and 11 from the women.

Junior transfer Andre Ewers’ debut at the Larry Wieczoreck Invitational produced a share of the 60-meter dash record, with his 6.52 in the final equalling Dentarius Locke’s 2014 NCAA winning time.

Three new records were recorded by the women, topped by freshman Ka’Tia Seymour’s ACC title-winning 200-meter dash (22.85), which erased junior Shauna Helps’ mark set earlier in the season. Helps’ sec-ond-place ACC time of 23.02 is No. 2 all-time. Sophomore Cortney Jones posted the second school record of the ACC Indoor Championships, racing to a silver medal in the 60-meter hurdles finals in 8.05.

Redshirt senior Gleneve Grange shattered her own shot put record by more than two feet with her 17.24-meter (56-6.75) mark at the Alex Wilson Invitational.Noteworthy among the other new entries are:• Ewers followed up his breakout 60 with the No. 5 200-meter dash

(20.60) for the win at the ACC Indoor Championships;• Freshman Trey Cunningham grabbed the No. 4 spot in the 60-meter

hurdles in his debut and lowered it to 7.70 with his ACC title win. Classmate Tye Dickens’ monster 7.91 PB in the ACC prelims took over the No. 8 spot;

• Redshirt senior Austin Droogsma is No. 2 in the shot put following his 20.10-meter (65-11.5) effort at the Alex Wilson Invitational;

• Redshirt junior Michael Hall improved on his No. 3 position in the mile with the third sub-four performance (3:59.37) in program history;

• Newcomers Corion Knight (8.02m/26-3.75) and Kenneth Fisher (7.81m/25-7.5) joined the long jump list at Nos. 2 and 7, respectively, following their performances at the Tyson Invitational;

• Knight also added his name to the high jump list with his 2.16-meter (7-1) clearance at the Razorback Invitational;

• Junior Armani Wallace jumped all the way to No. 3 in the triple jump with his ACC Indoor effort of 16.33 meters (53-7);

• Junior Brandon Tirado strengthened his No. 4 weight throw mark with a 19.79m (64-11.25) at the Alex Wilson Invitational;

• Dante Newberg’s ACC heptathlon PB (5,291 points) strengthened his No. 3 spot, while Hunter Napier’s Razorback PB (4,129) is No. 8;

• The men’s DMR of Toby Hardwick, Calvin Golson, Bert Freire and Istvan Szogi posted FSU’s No. 6 mark (9:46.05) at the ACC meet;

• A trio of sprinters are at the hub of the women’s makeover as ACC 60 champ Jayla Kirkland and Seymour now share No. 3 on the all-time list at 7.24. Helps checks in at No. 6 with her ACC 7.28;

• Junior Militsa Mircheva’s solo effort for the 5000-meter win at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational (16:07.12) vaults her to No. 4;

• Grad transfer Ieva Zarankaite dropped a shot put lifetime-best 15.97m (52-4.75) for third at the ACC, which sits No. 5;

• Redshirt junior Madison Harris advanced to her first ACC final in the 800, thanks to a huge PB of 2:07.57, which stands No. 6 all-time;

• Nicole Breske has a new pole vault PB (3.85m/12-7.50), established at the Jacksonville Mall Vault, which is good for No. 6 all-time;

FSU sweeps ACC Indoor team titlesThe Florida State men’s and women’s teams captured 2018 ACC Indoor Track & Field team titles at Clemson, duplicating their sweep from 2014 at the same venue. The Noles men claimed their 11th indoor crown and their first since ‘14, while the women won their third all-time title.

Freshman sprinter Ka’Tia Seymour was named the Women’s Track MVP after winning the 200 and finishing second to teammate Jayla Kirkland in the 60. Junior Armani Wallace was the Men’s Field MVP behind a pair of personal-best marks and third-place finishes in the triple and long jumps.

FSU’s men also received individual titles from Austin Droogsma (shot put), Edward Clarke (60), Andre Ewers (200) and Kenneth Fisher (long

jump) to edge defending champion Virginia Tech by a 111-107 margin.

Kirkland and Seymour provided the only wins for the Noles ladies, who padded their winning 91-point total with five runner-up finishes and two thirds. Virginia Tech was second with 81 points. Herston, who joined the staff from Miami, had similar success. In addition to qualifying three jumpers to the NCAA meet, his group scored 50 of the Noles’ ACC-winning 111 points. FSU also had the nation’s best four-man long jump and triple jump groups.
