BARKOV MAKES HISTORY Barkov, Florida's first round pick (2nd overall) in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft made his NHL debut on Oct. 3 in Dallas and tied the game at2-2 in the third period with his first NHL goal. Barkov, 18 years and 31 days, became the youngest player in the NHL since Jan. 8, 1944(Ted Kennedy) to score a goal and is the eighth-youngest player at the time he scored his first NHL goal according to Elias SportsBureau. It's the second straight season that a Panther rookie scored in their NHL debut. Calder Trophy winner Jonathan Huberdeauscored on his first shot on Jan. 19, 2013 and picked up two assists in a 5-1 victory over Carolina. CATS ARE 20 The Florida Panthers 20th Anniversary Season is underway. The NHL announced on March 1, 1993 that South Florida would join theNHL in time for the 1993-1994 season. Bill Torrey was named Team President and Bob Clarke was named Vice President and GeneralManager. Roger Neilson served as the first head coach. Peter Horachek, 53, was named Florida's interim coach on Nov. 8. He becomes Florida’s 12th head coach in franchise history, after mostrecently serving as the head coach of Florida’s American Hockey League affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage. Prior to working in San Antonio,Horacheck spent nine seasons with the Nashville Predators (2003-2013), serving his last two years as associate head coach. While working forthe Predators, he helped the club advance to the postseason on seven occasions.Horachek has also served as the head coach for the American Hockey League’s Milwaukee Admirals (2002-2003), ECHL’s Trenton Titans(2001-2002) and the International Hockey League’s Orlando Solar Bears (1999-2001), where he won the 2001 Turner Cup.Horachek coached his first NHL game as a head coach on Nov. 9, 2013 against the Ottawa Senators. Mike Babcock is in his 9th season as head coach of the Red Wings.  He has compiled an impressive 391-179-83 regular season record duringhis tenure in the Motor City. Overall, Babcock is 460-241-19-97 during the regular season in his NHL career. In 2011-12, the 50-year-old nativeof Saskatoon, SK, became the 3rd-fastest coach to reach 400 wins, accomplishing the feat in 699 games. Only Scotty Bowman (690 games)and Glen Sather (694 games) reached the 400-win plateau faster.  Babcock was a finalist for the 2008 Jack Adams Award and won theSporting News' 2008 NHL Coach of the Year award as voted on by his peers.
