Slide # 3Power Industry Fundamentals

The New Core for Power Generation Maintenance; Power Line Worker; Wind Turbine Maintenance TechnicianHours: 100 (Rigging is Mandatory)

4Background: Initiative kicked off Feb., 2009 with guidance provided by representatives of Progress Energy, Duke Energy, Southern Company, SCANA, Constellation Energy, TIC, Bechtel, Zachry, Cianbro, and Shaw. Identified Power Generation Maintenance as duty area with most immediate training need with most tasks already being met by NCCERs existing Industrial Maintenance program. SMEs convened in October and outlined four training paths for Power Generation Maintenance: Electrical, I&C, Mechanic, and Welding. NCCER had, according to the group, already fulfilled the need for training on the Welding side.Power Generation Maintenance

7Power Line Worker Level One Thirteen Modules: Seven completely new NCCER Instructor Reqs: ICTP-certified; journey-level or equivalent (3 5 years) experience. Hours: 402 (includes Power Industry Fundamentals 120 hours of lab just in climbing; 80 hours in aerial framing) Pre-requisite: Power Industry Fundamentals

Note: Aligns to Florida Energy Frameworks for Power Distribution Technician

8Four Power Line Worker Level One there are 13 training modules, the NCCER instructor requirements are ICTP certified and journey-level or equivalent experience. This ranges from 3 to 5 years of experience (like an electricians 4 5). Would need to be verified by the sponsor.Power Line Worker Training PathPower Line Worker Level One: Common for Transmission, Distribution, Substation, and UndergroundPower Line Worker Level Two: Distribution(Available)

9While Power Industry Fundamentals serves as a common base for line workers as it does those for those working at the generating station, when the Job Task Analysis was performed for this craft, much of the duties and tasks were very unique. Pole climbing, setting, aerial framing, transmission tower erection, wiring, guying, unique safety considerations, and the equipment used to service the lines all very unique and new. So there was very little crossover from existing craft trades to this one. What we did find, however, were commonalities in the new base material among the line worker specialty areas of transmission, distribution, substation and underground. From this common Level One, there was divergence into the different specialties areas, as notedIntroduction to Solar PV
