Page 1 of 7 Floral Enchantment Quilt In the elegant floral theme collection "Floral Enchantment," we combined small fancy floral motifs with scrolls, fans, shells, and decorative elements. These designs work well alone or when combined together to create wonderful quilt blocks. The project plans shown here do just that. We designed 6 quilt blocks (we used four in the actual quilt) and combined them with large single designs to create a large 9 block quilt. We hope you can use these designs and quilt block plan as inspiration to create beautiful designs for your home. -- Steve Wilson, Linda Winzeler and Staff STEP: 1 The quilt pattern that we created for this collection is a nine block quilt with multiple borders. The pattern illustrates the measurements for the blocks and also the designs we used to create the quilt. All measurements given indicate the finished size, so make sure you add in the seam allowance before cutting. Each of the nine squares is 10." All fabric strips are 1”, and the outside edge binding is ½” when finished. STEP: 2 We used home decor fabric for this quilt but any fabric should suffice. Choosing colors is very important with a project like this one. Start with a neutral colored base. Use one of the accent colors of the quilt to choose your flower colors, use another accent fabric to choose the colors of the leaves in the design. Use your final accent color to choose your color for the ribbons. Once these three base colors are chosen, select similar colors for shading.

STEP: 1

The quilt pattern that we created for this collection isa nine block quilt with multiple borders. The patternillustrates the measurements for the blocks and alsothe designs we used to create the quilt. Allmeasurements given indicate the finished size, somake sure you add in the seam allowance beforecutting. Each of the nine squares is 10." All fabricstrips are 1”, and the outside edge binding is ½” whenfinished.

STEP: 2

We used home decor fabric for this quilt but anyfabric should suffice. Choosing colors is veryimportant with a project like this one. Start with aneutral colored base. Use one of the accent colors ofthe quilt to choose your flower colors, use anotheraccent fabric to choose the colors of the leaves in thedesign. STEP: 3

Let's embroider each of the 10" neutral colored fabricsquares. All of the finished blocks have anapproximate 9"x 9" embroidery area. In the upper leftcorner of our quilt, we've used a layout we'll call"Quilt Block 3" which involves three embroiderydesigns: "Bouquet with Background, Larger"(hdbo4) rotated 45 degrees in the upper right corner, and used at a 225 degree rotation in the lower leftcorner. "Single Flower with Background, Larger"(hdbo5), "Ribbon with Flowers, Larger" (hdbo3)rotated 315 degrees in the upper left corner, and usedat a 135 degree rotation in the lower right corner. Tocreate this block, you might rotate the designs on themachine or in software that is capable of rotating adesign. We suggest creating the block in software, merging the five different items, and then printing outa template you refer to as you stitch.

STEP: 4

For the top center quilt block, we've used design"Large Fan Motif" (hdbo30b) in the center of thesquare.

STEP: 5

For the block in the upper right corner of the quilt,we've used a layout we'll call "Quilt Block 2", whichinvolves three embroidery designs. We suggest thatyou lay out the three designs in embroidery softwareand merge into one file, as follows: In the left uppercorner, "Seashell Corner, Larger" (hdbo23b), to theright "Seashell Motif, Larger" (hdbo16b). In thecenter, rotate design "Swirls" (hdbo32) 45 degrees. Inthe lower left corner of the block, place design"Seashell, Larger" (hdbo16b) this time rotated 225degrees, and in the lower right corner, rotate design"Seashell Corner, Larger" (hdbo23b) 180 degrees. This finished block has approximately a 9" squareembroidered area.

STEP: 6

For the middle right block, embroider "Bow withLoose Flowers, Larger" (hdbo10b) in the center of thefabric square.

STEP: 9

For the block in the lower left corner of the quilt,we've used a layout we'll call "Quilt Block 4", whichinvolves three embroidery designs. We suggest thatyou lay out the three designs in embroidery softwareand merge into one file, as follows: In the upper leftcorner, "Seashell in Scallops, Larger" (hdbo27b)rotated 315 degrees; In the upper right corner,"Seashell with Ribbon Motif, Larger" (hdbo28b)rotated 45 degrees. In the center of the block, placedesign "Fan" (hdbo17) without additional rotation. Inthe bottom half of the block, repat the designs used inthe top half. Merely switch the rotation andplacment: Seashell with Ribbon Motif, Larger"(hdbo28b) on the left rotated 225 degrees, and"Seashell in Scallops, Larger" (hdbo27b) on the right, rotated 135 degrees. This finished block hasapproximately a 9" square embroidered area.

STEP: 10

For the middle block on the bottom row of the quilt, repeat the design used in the middle top row -- "LargeFan Motif" (hdbo30b) in the center of the square.

STEP: 11

We've used a layout we call "Quilt Block 6" for theblock in the lower right corner of the quilt. Thislayout involves the following three designs: On thetop left, "Flower Motif, Larger" (hdbo14b) rotated315 degrees, on the top right "Flowers withBackground" (hdbo11) rotated 45 degrees. In thecenter, '"Swirls" (hdbo18) rotated 180 degrees. In thebottom half of the block, repeat the designs used inthe top half. Merely switch the rotation andplacement: On the left "Flowers with Background"(hdbo11) rotated 225 degrees, and "Flower Motif,Larger" (hdbo14b) on the right, rotated 135 degrees,To create the following blocks you will need amachine or software that is capable of rotating adesign. We suggest creating the block in software andthen printing out a template. Like the othercomposite quilt blocks, this finished block will have a9" square embroidered area.

STEP: 12

We have designed two more quilt blocks that youmight choose to use in your quilt in place of any ofthe other designs or blocks. In "Quilt Block 1", usetwo designs: "Heart with Flowers" (hdbo2) is usedtwice. Rotate it 315 degrees for the upper left corner, and 135 degrees for the lower right corner. Also use"Flowers with Background" (hdbo11) twice. Rotateit 45 degrees for the upper right corner, and 225degrees for the lower left corner.

STEP: 13

The other alternate block, "Quilt Block 5" uses threedesigns, stitched twice each. "Ribbon with LooseFlowers" (hdbo13) goes in the upper left corner at a315 degree rotation, and in the lower right corner at a135 degree rotation. "Flower Motif, Larger"(hdbo14b) is rotated 45 degrees for the upper rightcorner, and 225 degrees for the lower left corner. Inthe center area, place two instances of "Swirls"(hdbo18) end to end, with one at the originalorientation and the other rotated 180 degrees.

STEP: 14

Once the embroidered squares are complete, you canpiece, assemble, and quilt the beautiful FloralEnchantment quilt.
