    NEED FOR ALTERNATIVE

    PROPULSION SYSTEMS

Fossil fuels are a non renewable source of

energy that are fast losing their existence.

Extracting fossil fuels from crude oil is a verycostly affair.

Burning fossil fuels leads to ozone layer

    depletion and global warming.

India imports fuel thus spending millions of

    precious foreign exchange money.

    WHAT ARE FLEX FUELS?

It is a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline

    commonly known as E85.

E85 is an alternative fuel for use inautomobiles.

Ethanol increases the fuels octane rating thus

    ensuring a cleaner burn.

FLEX FUEL is the way forward to

    sustainable human development.

    HOW IS E85 PRODUCED?

Corn and sugarcane beets are the main sources

    of ethanol.

Wheat, sorghum, potatoes and beveragewastes can also be used.

    Cellulosic ethanol ethanol is produced

from agricultural wastes and forest residues.

E85 will aspire more countries that will

commit to the usage of the green fuel.

    WHAT ARE FFVs?

FFVs flexible fuel vehicles that haveflexible fuelling options.

FFVs are capable of running on ethanol, gasoline or a mix of both.

A true FFV can go from 100% ethanol to100% gasoline and back.

An FFV can run on any fuel as the situationdemands.

The Ford Model T was the first commercialFFV made in 1908.

    BENEFITS OF E85

Ethanols high octane rating boosts the

    engines output.

E85s higher compression ratio (CR) increasesthe engines efficiency by 25%.

E85 burns cleaner and also completely burns

    the gasoline blended to it.

E85 is cheaper to manufacture and has a 38%

gain in the overall energy balance.

    LATEST GLOBAL

    DEVELOPMENTS

BioFuels Security Actto phase out non-

FFVs in the US by 2016.

Chrysler, GM and Ford promised 50% of theirproduction to FFVs in 2008.

In 2009, Barack Obama pledged to improve

    biofuel research globally.

The Indy Race cars are fuelled by 100%

    ethanol currently.

    E85 FOR A GREENER INDIA

India is the fourth largest producer of ethanol in

    the world.

E10 fuelled cars have already proved to save 80

    million litres of petrol annually.

Cuts pollution by reducing green house gases.

Saves millions of foreign exchange money.

    Ethanol production ensures rural prosperity.

EBP programme kick started the flex fuel

    revolution in India.

    CONCLUSION

E85 boosts engines efficiency and output.

Cheaper production costs and rural prosperity.

    FFVs are cheaper to run.

    Lower emissions thus preserves environment.

E85 promises a greener earth and a cleaner

    tomorrow without oil.
