Describe what is meant by Blended Learning.

Having classes both online and in class

To me blended learning is when normal in class learning is combined with online learning.

Blended Learning is a mixture between in class courses, and courses done through online lessons and readings.

Blended learning allows students to experience an online digital media and traditional classroom methods as well

Blended Learning is the combination of face-to-face learning and online learning.

My understanding of blended learning is a mixture of learning a particular subject via more than one source.

Explain 3 ways that Blended Learning is the same as traditional Face-to-Face Learning.Help and Guidance

you can get help both in class and online

receive group and individual feedback both ways

Interaction

provides opportunities for interaction with your teacher, collaboration with students

communication between students and teachers

group lessons, class discussions

Learning

demonstration of learning, both self and group learning

variety of technique, f2f by a teacher and blended through videos

receive information and instructions

doing the same work you would be doing in a classroom, covers the same content

Effort

both require hard work, expectation for the student to do work on their own time

in-class part can keep students motivated

Responsibility

independent learning aspects

assignments and due dates still apply

marked the same way by a teacher, receive an equal credit for completing either

Page 8: FLEMING COLLEGE COMMUNICATIONS II (COMM 202) SECTION 13 · Unit 1, Seminar One. Welcome to Communications 2! 1. Introductions 2. How This Course Works 3. Blended Learning Survey results

Explain 3 ways that Blended Learning is different from traditional Face-to-Face Learning.

Communication and Interaction

to communicate with your teacher you have to use email, D2L, dropbox, blogs

you can work on and hand in your work without seeing the teacher

Responsibility

online portion that isn't homework

less in-class time

tracking and assessment allow learners to receive instant feedback and track their own progress which enables them to remain more motivated in achieving their own desired goals and objectives

Flexibility and Choice

time and space for learning is flexible

no one is watching us, maybe more comfortable learning for those who like to work independently

fewer distractions than a classroom, as not everyone is eager to work as hard as you are

both synchronous and asynchronous learning

can advance at your own pace, not pressured by time constraints in class

lessons could be taught online through a video or documents

learners have more choice and control over their learning

Access to Resources

can find information at finger tips, do not have to be in class to access information

computers are involved, no textbook

can research and read related material on the internet

Page 9: FLEMING COLLEGE COMMUNICATIONS II (COMM 202) SECTION 13 · Unit 1, Seminar One. Welcome to Communications 2! 1. Introductions 2. How This Course Works 3. Blended Learning Survey results

Challenges learning and reading online can be difficult for some students, different

than we are used to harder to learn because it’s harder to explain things students have to be more independent, more diligent with your time to

work on stuff on your own need to be motivated to do the work less face-to-face for some assignments expected to have all the resources and skills to accomplish the task

online less time with the instructor in the classroom, less peer interaction reliant on technology no explanation from teacher for questions you pay less

List a few responsibilities of students in the online component of a Blended Learning class.

keep up-to-date, log on regularly, constantly check for updates

time management, must make time to do the work on own time (no scheduled time)

student is more responsible for doing the work, active learning, researching the material

need to put in effort, stay motivated, work to the best of their abilities

do not plagiarize

make sure to apply learning, actually work on it

ask when you don't know, reach out and contact teachers if assistance is needed

know how to access all components

stay organized on your own

Page 11: FLEMING COLLEGE COMMUNICATIONS II (COMM 202) SECTION 13 · Unit 1, Seminar One. Welcome to Communications 2! 1. Introductions 2. How This Course Works 3. Blended Learning Survey results

What do you think the professor is responsible for in the online component of a Blended Learning class?

make course simple to access, making sure that the content is posted, make guidelines available

keep up-to-date on marking

tell us when work is to be done, send notifications/reminders for assignments due to possible forgetfulness

ensure students understand

monitor activity and completion of online assignments

What do you think your challenges will be with Blended Learning?

no challenges anticipated doing work outside of class, discipline when there’s no class to force ourselves

to attend finding motivation to sit down and get the work done reading online understanding the information given remembering to log on and do the online work on time finding all of the information that I need to access and submit. keeping track of all the online and in-class content getting in touch with the teacher with questions not used to online components, used to learning and doing work in class I am not the best with technology and computer literacy, it can become very

frustrating
