Unit Goals• The Purpose of this unit is to help students see
the relevant link between Math class and the world around them.
• Students will be challenged to understand the ramifications their choices have on their Body, Mind, and Soul.

Class, in the story we see three different shapes in Flatland. What is the purpose of each group of shapes?
How do they work together?
How are they autonomous?
What parallels can we make between the story of Flatland and the Apostle Paul’s wisdom?
Day 4 – Identifying the Different Parts

Integration• Prior to both classes, the students will be
required to read Flatland.• The Language Arts class will purposely use
the language of the Math class in order to help students see the correlation.
• Both classes will refer to the novel and movie as it is appropriate.
Assessment
Math• Students will be required to
write for 5 minutes in their Math journals regarding the lesson of the day.
• Students will be given problems/worksheets to complete on a daily basis to insure that the formulas are understood.
Language Arts• Students will be required to
write a 5 to 10 minute reflective journal at the end of each class. This journal will be a dialectic conversation between student and teacher.

Class Layout
Differentiation
Math• Notes will be given to any
student who may need them.
• Extra time will be given to any student who might need it.
• More challenging questions will be given to any student who would like the challenge.
Language Arts• Tag Students – Stretch a
Standard• Slow Students –given an
outline of the class notes to be covered and would fill in important data along the outline.
• ESL Students – given notes with blank spaces in them.
