This Special edition of Flappings has important information that I hope you add to your calendar. Our final Hicks Airfield Pilots Association meeting for the 2017 year will be held on December 9th at 2pm at Heavens Gate restaurant. Last years’ meeting had a great turnout and good food, and an opportunity to visit with our airfield neighbors. Our only order of business will be to elect 3 Board members for the open positions for the 2018 / 2019 term. Biographies of the candidates can be found in this issue for your review. One important item to mention is that during our budget discussion for the 2018 year, several airfield maintenance items have been minimized due to lack of funding. The board has approved a very small increase in our monthly dues. Currently your dues are calculated at .081 cents per square foot of property that you own. Our increase for 2018 will increase the dues to .09 cents per square foot of property. (Hangar size has no impact on how dues are calculated). The current rate of .081 has not been adjusted in the last 10+ years. Our airfield belongs to all property owners and has grown significantly in the last few years. Taxiway improvements continue to be the bulk of our budget and we are pleased with the new contractor and the improvements made this year. One action item currently being considered is a vehicle traffic pattern change that will reduce traffic on the main taxi-way to improve safety for the entire airfield. Please join us – your participation makes a difference.!

Best Regards,

Tom Martin President – Hicks Airfield Pilots Association

CANDIDATE BIOS FOR 2018-2019 HAPA BOARD

Marlin Klotz Marlin was born in Nevada, Missouri in 1976. He was raised in a small rural community and spent most of his days on his family farm. He graduated with degrees in both Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. After graduating he accepted a position with Kiewit Texas Construction and moved to Ft. Worth. Over his 18 year career, he has been involved in several large projects both locally and throughout the northern United States. He is currently the East Regional Equipment Operations Manager. During his years with the company he has gained extensive experience in managing projucts, facilities (large and small), cost forecasting, budget analyst, recruiting, and employee training. On his off time he enjoys several hobbies including endure and dual sport motorcycle riding, scuba diving, golf, and traveling. As a resident of Hicks Airfield for the last seven years, he has attended several HAPA meetings and has had the opportunity to meet many of the residents while learning about the events surrounding his community. By electing Marlin to the Board, HAPA would gain detailed experience in product management, budget management, heave machine capabilities, and most important, team development. His problem-solving abilities based off of observation and conversation would be a valuable asset to the Hicks community. Cooperation and teamwork should be the driving force to secure a positive future for all residents within the airfield. Marlin has the ability to foster this environment through open and honest communication. Voting for someone requires a measure of trust and that will not be taken for granted. If elected, he will support decisions that achieve the best interests of Hicks and all its’ residents. ________________________________________________________________ Bob Samson I failed to show up for 2 out of the 6 total BOD meetings this year so far. My personal life interfered. But I still feel guilty for letting the membership down. My goals for participation on the BOD these past two years were two-fold. Curtail the secret BOD meetings. And get some striping and green reflectors down on the runway turnoff and front taxiway. So far my efforts haven’t produced the results I had hoped for. So if you see a new name on the ballot with some new ideas that strike your fancy, please direct your ballot in his/her direction. Otherwise, I’ll keep trying and thanks for the support.

CANDIDATE BIOS FOR 2018-2019 HAPA BOARD

Tom Martin Thanks to everyone that has supported the current Board at Hicks Airfield. I have been a Board member for the last six years and have served as BOD President. My current term is ending and I will be running for reelection for the 20018/2019 Board of Directors. We have faced challenges throughout the year - some that can be easily resolved and others that take time and effort from many resources. Many things have turned out successful and made Hicks the place to be in the aircraft community. Hicks Airfiels has evolved from a small airport thirty-two years ago to now approximately 400 hangars with a very diverse community. I am a Fort Worth native and earned my pilots license in 1974 at Meacham Field. I am very proud to be part of Hicks Airfield and am reminded often of how great it is, receiving compliments and requests to be part of our community. Although 2017 has been an outstanding year, officers and board members hope to have a less contentious 2018 where we have no more rumors and a conflict that only serves to divide our community and separate the membership with an agenda that conceives and promotes negativity. I understand everyone has a right to an opinion and that some of us have a lot of time on our hands but I ask each of you to think in terms of what is best for the airport. I am asking for your vote for the HAPA Board to continue to help lead Hicks Airfield. ________________________________________________________________ Jay Pratt I am proud to be part of Hicks Airfield and would enjoy being a BOD member to ensure our airport stays a great place. In my opinion, Hicks has become the best private airport in the metroplex. I feel that the current board has done an excellent job with maintenance and improving the airfield, and with my experience could work well with advancing our airfield. I have been at Hicks since July 2000 and own RV Central - assisting and the building many airplanes to completion and many other modifications and repairs to other aircraft. I will serve and support all property owners to make sure your voice is heard.
