Max M. Fisher 1908–2005Throughout his life, Max M. Fisher was a model for those
who are committed to making a positive difference in the
world around them. Born in Pittsburgh to Russian immigrants,
he grew up in the small town of Salem, Ohio, and attended
The Ohio State University on a football scholarship. After
graduating with a degree in business administration in 1930,
he joined his father’s oil reclamation business in Detroit.
Through hard work and instinct, he grew the business into
one of the largest gas station chains in the Midwest before
selling the business in 1959 and investing in a series of stock
and real estate deals that made him one of the country’s
wealthiest men.
In 1993, Fisher’s desire to see Ohio State’s business college
become one of the premier management institutions in
the country resulted in a generous gift that spearheaded
the building of what is now recognized as one of the finest
business school campuses anywhere. In recognition of his
commitment, the college was named the Max M. Fisher
College of Business that year.
Max Fisher’s success, integrity and commitment to give back to
the community are an inspiration to all of us at Fisher College to
live up to the Ohio State motto and “do something great.”
Letter from the Dean As dean of The Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business, I am frequently asked what makes the Fisher College MBA experience unique. For us, success is defined by our rigorous and innovative curriculum, the character of our people and the opportunities we create for success. The Fisher College learning experience involves supporting our students in developing a sense of community as well as self. Ours is a learning-by-doing environment where collaboration and competition are equally important. As a result, our graduates are able to add immediate value to their organizations and to the world.
Our emphasis on honesty and accountability is demonstrated in a unique way each year when our MBA students reaffirm their commitment to high ethical behavior within the college and workplace by publicly signing Fisher College’s honor statement. Our students also reflect their commitment to public service by facilitating statewide fund-raisers, hosting charity drives, partnering with national companies on volunteer activities and undertaking community service projects.
This community-minded leadership is something I see demonstrated every day and reinforces the fact that Fisher College students create and execute innovative ideas. They are self-motivated leaders who affect positive corporate change. They enjoy challenging our equally motivated professors and take advantage of our faculty’s groundbreaking research. Most importantly, they are risk takers who are not afraid to stand out and make a significant impact on the world.
Our drive for progress is carried over into Fisher College programs as well. Over the past few years, we have implemented an MBA military initiative, increased global study opportunities, developed new partnerships fostering entrepreneurial leadership and launched a new leadership and professional development curriculum. We also continued to hire some of the country’s most dynamic faculty and strengthened our connections to graduates, students and recruiters through redesigned web sites, online communities and new alumni events. Our new Initiative for Managing Services helps companies succeed in the growing service economy, as does our student-run consulting organization, Fisher Professional Services, which educates MBAs while providing thought leadership for organizations.
Our search for better ways to enhance business education has not gone unnoticed. According to U.S. News & World Report, we are the 7th-ranked public business school in the country. Our MBA program ranks 21st in the nation and our undergraduate program ranks 18th. The Economist places us among the top 30 management schools in the world.
These accolades point to Fisher College as a school with both momentum and international recognition for our ability to produce leaders who reshape the world of business. Intelligence, intensity, collaboration, community involvement and impact—to me, these qualities not only define the Fisher College experience but the students, faculty, staff and alumni who embody the Fisher College community.

Invest in Your Future
The commitment to earn a top MBA, and to excel in the career
that follows, is a serious investment, and with that investment
comes responsibility—to yourself, to others and to the
community. Fisher College’s MBA program is designed with
the understanding that each individual is unique and yet part
of a community that extends beyond himself or herself. Our
goal is to enable you to graduate with an MBA that is uniquely
yours and with a deep understanding of the ways in which
your work and your accomplishments can have a far-reaching,
positive impact. Our curriculum lets you customize your course
of study to meet these objectives and to meet the demanding
and ever-changing needs of the global marketplace. We
emphasize a strong work ethic and integrity throughout. We
are committed to creating a community with high standards
of personal and professional conduct, as evidenced by our
students’ creation of an honor statement and their ongoing
work to maintain it as a living part of our culture.
Our Curriculum, Your Choice Fisher College’s MBA program is designed to help you
achieve professional success by preparing you to take on
leadership roles in an increasingly complex and diverse global
environment. The success of our program resides in its
characteristics—intimate, interactive, hands-on and flexible.
We offer many high-quality, high-impact opportunities for
intellectual, personal and professional growth. There are
many choices and options— at Fisher College, no two MBA
degrees are exactly alike.
Our MBA curriculum has three components: our core
curriculum, our elective curriculum and our leadership and
professional development curriculum. The core ensures
that you attain mastery of the base of knowledge that is
critical for all practicing managers. The elective curriculum
allows you to achieve mastery in at least one discipline by
completing a major course of study, such as operations
and logistics, marketing or corporate finance. In addition,
our interdisciplinary business tracks (which include
service management, entrepreneurship, leadership, lean
management and Six Sigma, consulting and a “make your
own” option) encourage you to develop a broad perspective
and enhance your ability to work across disciplines.
Our leadership and professional development (LPD)
curriculum is an outside the classroom series of events
designed to provide you with opportunities for growth and
development. It will help you sort through career paths
and professional opportunities and choose those that are
likely to be best for you. LPD will also help you develop the
self-confidence, skills and savvy to succeed in your chosen
path. Scheduled largely on Fridays, LPD activities provide
opportunities to invest in yourself and in your future. They
are pivotal to the Fisher College MBA experience and to the
Fisher College community.
To earn Fisher College’s full time MBA degree, you must
complete a minimum of 24.5 quarter courses. Only 10.5 are
required core courses—the rest are electives. You can take
as few as 14 or as many as 19 elective courses. We do not
accept transfer hours from other graduate programs.
Fisher Honor Statement
As a member of the Fisher College of Business community, I am personally committed to the highest standards of ethical behavior.
Honesty and integrity are the foundation from which I will measure my actions. I will hold myself accountable to adhere to these
standards. As a leader in the community and the business environment, I will pledge to live by these principles and celebrate those
who share these ideals.

Career ServicesPartnership for Placement SuccessOur Office of Career Services is an active partner in your
career development. Fisher College’s career advisors provide
personalized attention, offering daily drop-in times for quick
questions, as well as regular appointments. Advisors can also
help clarify career direction and provide expertise in resume
writing, negotiation, personal marketing and interviewing
techniques. Resume referrals, job postings and on-camera
video interview coaching are available to help optimize
effectiveness in interviews. Because on-campus recruiting
is only part of the career search picture, our Career Services
office also provides extensive support for a personalized,
targeted job search.
A strong on-campus recruiting program brings representatives
from hundreds of companies to the Fisher College campus
every year to interview and to attend career conferences,
job forums and internship fairs. Among our latest career
services strategies are Fisher Fridays, a relaxed approach
to recruiting that enables companies to meet students
in a small, intimate setting. Many companies, including
3M, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Kimberly-Clark, Ford Motor
Company, General Electric, Limited Brands and Nestlé,
have recruited Fisher College MBAs for internships and
permanent positions through these forums. In addition, we
have established a Career Connections Fund to help subsidize
student-organized recruiting and informational trips and
industry-focused group visits to recruiters in such key cities
as New York and Chicago.
In surveys, we receive high marks from recruiters who cite
our students’ strong analytical and problem-solving skills,
teamwork orientation and communications skills as the top
reasons they hire Fisher College graduates. About 90% of
our full-time MBA students receive job offers within three
months of graduation—a percentage that has been achieved
consistently in each of the past four years.

Team Up
The corporate world requires team players, but mastering
effective teamwork skills is not easy. That is why we put
teamwork at the heart of the Fisher College MBA. Regardless
of your level of skill and experience, there is always more to
learn, and the best way to learn is through experience and
effective coaching. Our program provides both.
Each entering MBA class is divided into smaller cohort
groups. Careful attention is given to the composition and size
of the respective student cohorts. Each cohort is developed
to reflect the diversity of the students’ backgrounds, such as
undergraduate major, work experience, gender, ethnicity and
nationality. Cohort size is balanced to foster the development
“The part of the Fisher College experience I most value is the spirit of collaboration and camaraderie. Fellow students were
genuinely interested in helping each other, an attitude encouraged by the faculty and administration. Everyone believed in the
team concept. I also value the relatively small class size and the benefits this afforded, including curriculum flexibility and the
opportunity for students to take leadership roles in making our program better.”
John QuickMBA 2003

of group cohesion and camaraderie in addition to enriching
discussion. Within cohorts, each individual is assigned to a
four or five member team. Your team is your workgroup for
assignments throughout the year. Faculty specialists, outside
consultants and specially trained second-year MBA students
provide ongoing coaching and support for first-year teams.
In the second year, teamwork continues to be important,
but you choose your own teammates on a project-by-project
basis. You will also have the opportunity to receive training to
become a coach and process facilitator for the new first-year
class. It’s a great way to give back and a great opportunity to
build your skills and your resume.

Fisher College faculty members are experienced educators,
researchers and consultants. Experts in cutting-edge theory
and practice, they bring this knowledge into the classroom,
creating a stimulating and challenging learning environment.
Far from armchair theorists, their scholarship is important in
the boardroom as well as the classroom. Faculty relationships
with the corporate community make them frequent
consultants with Fortune 500 companies, entrepreneurial
startups, nonprofit organizations and government agencies.
Their ability to transfer this active involvement into the
classroom further enhances the education of participants in
all our programs.
In the classroom, our faculty adopt a wide range of creative
approaches to shaping the learning environment. Approaches
range from interactive lectures, business case analyses,
team-based business simulation games, discussion of current
business issues and live projects at top companies. This
breadth of approaches adds depth and richness to the Fisher
College MBA experience.
On the research front, Fisher College faculty members have
earned top rankings from prestigious publications for their
scholarship, teaching and research impact. In its 2005 survey
of business schools, the Financial Times ranked our faculty
21st in the world for research productivity. A 2004 study
conducted by Financial Management ranked our finance
faculty 9th out of the 100 most productive departments
worldwide, based on publications in the top 15 finance
journals. Based on the Business Research Websource, from
1989–2004, among all listed journals and all regions,
our faculty research was ranked 3rd in cognitive sciences,
psychology and sociology, 5th in production/operations, 7th in
computer science and applied math, and 8th in finance.
Spearheaded by faculty, our research groups support
the development of teaching and research and provide a
forum for exchange between the academic and corporate
communities. Our Center for International Business Education
and Research (CIBER) is one of only 30 such centers in the
nation. Our Global Supply Chain Forum developed a model
that was used by Wendy’s International and Tyson Foods to
craft a new approach to supply chain partnerships.

Passport to SuccessLeadership and Professional Development CurriculumOutside formal course work, our leadership and professional
development curriculum present you with a great variety of
choices and opportunities. The focus is largely on Fridays.
At Fisher College, Fridays are your opportunity to invest in
yourself. We hold few formal classes, so you can participate
fully in the activities, and you are expected to do so. We offer
events and activities you won’t want to miss. During the fall,
the program focuses on career preparation and job search. In
the winter quarter, the program offers self-assessment and
professional development workshops that help you build a
professional development plan. During the spring, you’ll focus
on your career opportunities and capstone experiences.
Based on your interests, goals and our recommendations,
you choose how to invest your time. Should you enroll
in a consulting workshop featuring professionals from a
leading strategy consulting firm? Hone your technical skills
with an Excel, Access or SAS workshop? Should you learn
and network by attending an executive lunch or speech on
leadership and career development or take an idea for an
event, activity or project? Again, the choice is yours.
Your Fisher Advantage Passport serves as your guide. Every
entering Fisher College MBA student receives a passport
booklet. It is your record of your Fisher College experience.
While you are responsible for your activities, we give you the
support and guidance you need as you decide which activities
are right for you. As you progress through the program, and
certainly upon graduation, you will have a completed record
of the portfolio work you have completed to share with
recruiters, colleagues and potential employers. And, if you’ve
participated in a broad range of leadership programs outside
of class, you’ll be eligible to receive a Fisher Leadership
Award at graduation.

complexities of global business and experiencing other
cultures. You can study abroad for a quarter at one of more
than 20 business school partners around the world, including
top business schools in Brazil, Chile, England, France, Italy,
Hong Kong, Korea or Switzerland. Or, you can select our
popular Emerging Markets Field Study course as an elective,
spending a quarter studying the economy of a developing
country and a firm within that country. Over spring break, you
will travel to meet that firm’s managers and experience
the country firsthand. Since 1995, students have visited
companies such as Nestlé, Coca-Cola, IBM, Red Cross and
Wal-Mart in countries including South Africa, Turkey, Egypt, Argentina, Poland, China, Hungary, Brazil, the Czech Republic,
Peru and Thailand. We also offer a series of business-oriented
language classes that have included Chinese, French,German,
Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Portuguese and Spanish.
Executives from around the world speak with our students
in on-campus gatherings. Past speakers have included
international business executives, world-renowned

Global Trade and Technology, established by alumnus Leslie
Wexner, chairman of Limited Brands, brings internationally
known speakers to campus. Past speakers include U.S.
Presidents George H. W. Bush and Gerald R. Ford and former
U.S. Trade Representative Carla Hills.
Second-year or recent MBA graduates can gain significant
international experience through 15-month assignments
with private enterprises in emerging markets. While on
assignment, you may help to formulate new business plans,
develop financial proposals, negotiate joint ventures, establish
marketing programs and develop accounting and information
systems—all of which broaden your business skills through
cross-cultural sensitivity while making a difference in our
global community.

“The flexibility to pursue your passions and the ability to make an immediate impact are two of the greatest benefits of attending Fisher
College. The close-knit community creates a culture that actively encourages student initiatives and personal leadership development

China and supplementing my manufacturing knowledge by coordinating forums for local companies and helping them become more
competitive in the global marketplace.”

Partnering with Business
As part of your Fisher College experience, you will have many
opportunities to interface and interact with business leaders.
We have a variety of innovative partnerships among our MBA
students, faculty, alumni and the business community that
facilitate and strengthen this connection.
Fisher Professional Services:
Providing Consulting Talent to CompaniesFisher Professional Services, a student-led consultancy, gives
students practical consulting experience while providing
strategic business solutions for major companies. Staffed by
over 30 MBA students, the organization currently has over
eight projects under management and is headed by a former
partner in a top consultancy. Projects include improvements
in supply chain operations, valuation and business plan
development and marketing strategy with companies such
as Limited Brands, Michael Freres and Associates, American
Electric Power, Readers Digest and United Way.
Corporate Mentoring ProgramTo address the unique needs of female, minority and
international students, the college’s mentoring program
links first-year MBA students with executives from such
companies as Abbott Laboratories Ross Products Division,
Alliance Data Systems, Bath & Body Works, JPMorgan
Chase, Merrill Lynch, Nationwide, Smith Barney and Wendy’s
International, Inc. Students and their mentors meet frequently
to discuss career options, career priorities, internship
opportunities and ways to network with other leaders in
the business community. These working partnerships often
develop beyond the mentoring experience into long-term
friendships.
Fisher College Executive Luncheon SeriesThrough our Executive Luncheon Series, you will have the
opportunity for close interaction with senior executives. Each
week during the quarter, a small group of students meets
with an executive guest for lunch. The program provides an
intimate environment for students to network, learn about the
careers of top corporate leaders and discuss today’s business
challenges.
Lean InternshipsLean manufacturing removes a wide variety of waste
from the business enterprise while reducing costs and
improving customer satisfaction. Using a lean approach to
manufacturing processes has helped Fisher College MBA
interns save their companies more than $500,000. The
internships are part of Implementing and Managing Lean
Processes, in partnership with Ford Motor Company’s Lean
Resource Center. Interns use the lean tools they learn in their
summer jobs during the first half of the course in the spring,
then conclude the course in the fall with case presentations
for their summer employers.

Part-Time MBAThe Part-Time MBA program is responsive to the needs of
the fully employed student. We’ve built in more flexibility,
while maintaining the rigor you would expect from our
nationally ranked Fisher College of Business MBA program.
Our MBA curriculum is rigorous and team-oriented, with
learning materials based on cutting-edge research, state-of-
the-art practice and a focus on leadership development.
Executive MBAThe Fisher College’s Executive MBA program gives high-
potential managers the tools they need to become innovative
thinkers and effective change agents for their companies.
The program delivers a whole business approach with classes
built around cross-functional business issues rather than the
traditional “silo” approach to functional areas. The 18-month
program offers sessions three days a month, with distance
learning options available via the Internet.
MAccThe Master of Accounting program at Fisher College was
established to address the need for accountants in the new
economy to have a broader and deeper understanding of
how accounting functions in the organization. The one-year,
11 or 12 course program enables students to develop skills
in information systems technology and other business fields
and allows them to meet new CPA licensing requirements.
MBLEThe Master in Business Logistics Engineering is a one-year,
12 course program designed to enable graduates to enter
the job market equally comfortable with logistics strategy,
the management of logistics operations and engineering
tasks such as facility design and implementation of logistics
technology.
MLHRThe Master of Labor and Human Resources program focuses
on functional human resource expertise, leadership and
change management. The two-year program curriculum
includes 18 courses and a required internship experience.
PhDFisher College offers selective, research-oriented doctoral
programs in a variety of business disciplines, with
approximately 20 students in residence at any given time.
Similar to the MBA program, the doctoral program is tailored
to individual needs and interests. Students draw on the vast
array of courses offered throughout the university and work
closely with their faculty advisors.
Combined Degree ProgramsIn cooperation with other colleges within The Ohio State
University, Fisher College offers a number of combined
degrees that can be pursued to enable students to receive
two advanced degrees upon graduation. Due to exchanged
credit between the programs, the two degrees can typically
be earned in substantially less time than if both degrees were
pursued independently. Students must be admitted to both
programs; admission to one program does not guarantee
admissions to the other.
Present joint degrees available include:
MBA/JD (Fisher College of Business/Moritz College of Law)
MBA/MD (Fisher College of Business/College of Medicine)
MBA/MHA (Fisher College of Business/Health Services
Management and Policy)
MBA/PharmD (Fisher College of Business/Pharmacy)
Executive EducationFisher College Executive Education programs bring together
faculty and industry experts to help top managers learn
applicable skills and strategies. The results-oriented program
uses interactive learning to address participants’ business
objectives. Custom programs are also offered for individual
clients or a consortium of organizations.
