History of the SLV Rod & Gun Club
The Savannah Lakes Rod and Gun
Club was formed October 7, 2008 by
founding members Lary Rand, Mark
Young, Josh Sandt and Larry Brown
with David Twiggs actually spearhead-
ing the formation. On April 28, 2009
the group incorporated as Savannah
Lakes Village Rod and Gun Club with
124 members.
The purpose of the Rod and Gun Club
was, and is, to make it easier for mem-
bers with common interests in fishing,
hunting and shooting sports to build
relationships and provide opportunities
for organized outings, guided trips, and
sporting events.
The name was officially changed to
Savannah Lakes Rod and Gun Club in
August 2017 due to changing our in-
corporation to non-profit status.
Over the years the club has conducted
many classes on Gun Safety, Home
Safety & Security, What Gun to Buy,
Refuse to be a Victim and classes for
concealed carry permits. We have as-
sisted over 200 SLV residents to ob-
tain their CWP permits.
The club also offers several fishing
seminars per year. Types of fishing in-
cluded in the seminars are bass, striper
and crappie fishing.
In addition to the classroom education
the club offers many fun functions
throughout the year. We offer charter
striper fishing trips, arcade style shoot-
ing events, self defense shooting events
and several other fun type shooting out-
ings.
Skeet shooting is a very popular event
and is a weekly shooting sport. We
share use of the Hickory Knob State
Park Archery and Skeet facility every
Tuesday morning for our event.
The club has our own outdoor pistol
range and it is available to members
Monday Thru Saturday. Summer hours
are 9:00 til 1:00 winter hours are 10:00
til 2:00 weather permitting.
Friday mornings are designated as
“Ladies Day” and for the first two
hours are reserved for our lady shoot-
ers.
The pistol range received a major up-
dating June of 2019 and now offers a
great shooting environment and a nice
way to spend an entertaining morning.
The club is always evaluating the de-
sires of our membership in order to
provide activities of interest. All activi-
ties are optional. Social events, such as
dinner programs, are usually held quar-
terly.
The club has grown to the largest sanc-
tioned club in Savannah Lakes and
boasts a membership exceeding 250
members.
