Church Announcements & Activ i t ies

The Annual Bastrop County MLK Walk will take

place in downtown Elgin at 10 a.m. on Monday,

January 16. The starting point for the walk is

Veterans Memorial Park and ending at Booker

T Washington Elementary School. Along the

walk we will stop at Mt. Pleasant Baptist

Church, Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Pleasant

Bethany Church, and the original site of Booker

T Washington School, the colored school for

Elgin. Along the route, a representative will give

a short speech at each site. The program at the

BTW gym will include presentations and speak-

ers from communities and schools throughout

the county. In case of severe weather, the walk

will be cancelled, but the program would contin-

ue at the BTW gym. Sausage wraps with cook-

ies, chips and a drink provided after the pro-

gram. The Elgin volunteer chair is Bettye

Lofton. 512-963-2721.
