F R O M T H E S E N I O R P A S T O R As I sit here writing this article, I have this lovely fall candle sitting on my desk filling the air with fall spice, and also making me hungry for turkey, dressing, and sweet potato pie. I can close my eyes, and almost imagine the wonderful Thanksgiving meals that I was blessed with as a child in my grandparents modest home in West Memphis Arkansas. The smell of onion and celery cutting through the air, and sound of 30 plus people cramming into that small home. But there is this sadness in my heart as well because these memories are firmly placed in the past.

There are times when it is hard to rejoice in the moment, because we are so focused on how it used to be. We think how good it used to be, and how life can never be that good again. Or we think that we have nothing to thankful for. To battle this I give you this thought. First, embrace the past as something to be celebrated! It’s okay to have beautiful memories and to rejoice in them. Second, embrace the now! Look for what God is doing now. The same God who blessed you with the past, is blessing you now. God is pouring out wonderful things into your life at this moment. And last, realize that the God of your past and your present, will be

with you in the future. God’s blessings do not run out, but they do come in different ways.

Read this scripture from 2 Corinthians 9:8 “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

Did you hear that? God has already blessed us! Let us go into this season of grattitude with an atittude to look for how God is moving in our life!

Grace and Peace,

Bro Keith

Many thanks to our amazing church family for the heart warming shower and outpouring of love and support. We are thankful to have all of you alongside us for this journey

Love,

Pastor Heather, Dustin & Silas

Save the Date!

There are times when God leads us to places that seem impossible to reach and calls us to do what seems impossible to do. Over 2,000 years ago, God called Mary on a journey that would lead her to deliver the long-awaited Christ Child in Bethlehem. Filled with anticipation, she remained obedient to the divine call He placed in her life. We invite you to experience the awe and wonder of Christmas as Mary did many years ago. May this unique take on a familiar story draw your heart closer to the expectation of Christ’s coming and finally the angel’s joyful song of His miraculous arrival. There will be 2 performances - Friday, December 14th at 7: 00 and Sunday, December 16th at 11:00.

This Month’s Featured MinistriesWe are called to know the Lord with our head, love Him with our heart, and serve Him with our hands – and there are many ways to step into service at First United Methodist Church. Each of us has unique gifts that we have been given to use in service. Consider what is a passion for you, for example is it assisting the elderly, or children, or youth, or those in need…what peaks your interest? Are you happiest behind the scenes or ‘upfront’? Pray about these things as you seek a role in service.

Our church feeds the hungry. We distribute Thanksgiving Baskets in the city and county. Baskets are requested through Alpha House, Area Agency on Aging, Baxter County DHS, Christian Clinic, Gamma House, Ozark Center of Hope, Phoenix House, Informed Choices-Women’s Center, Serenity, Local Veterans Office, Early Head Start, Kidspiration and your referrals. This mission is only happens with your generous donations.

We are so excited that we are rolling once again with our Wednesday programming! Wednesdays begin with snacks, followed by Praise and Worship with the whole group, then recreation and learning rotation. On Sundays, we have First Kidz Club at 10:00. If you would like to volunteer to help with Wednesday or Sunday activities, contact the church office or see Kellye Cannon. We have several different volunteer opportunities. [email protected]

This ministry is for students from 6th grade through 12th grade. MSM (middle school ministry) begins right after school - 3:15-5:00. HSM (high school ministry) is from 5:00-7:30. On Sundays at 10:00 we have USM Sunday-Sit-Down. We will be kicking off Sunday Sit Down this Fall with the book of Luke. Students were asked what book they wanted to begin with, and they were interested in studying the Gospels. We are always looking for volunteers on Wednesdays and Sundays. If you are interested in serving with our youth, please contact Sarah Moore. [email protected]

Do You Want to Participate in the Christmas Musical? If you do, here’s how! This year we want to surround out Narthex with Nativity Scenes, Creches, or any type of Manger Scene you want to share. Now, before you gasp, not necessarily the one you cherish and would be “crushed” if Little Hands touched it, but one that you thing is somewhat special. Perhaps it’s from another country, or your children made it, or it just speaks to you! Nativities from around the world OR from the state or area in which you grew up! They will be on display from Dec. 13th thru the 21st. We will remove them before Christmas Eve due to needing that space free for additional seating. Please include the following on a piece of paper: Your name, Where it came from, how long you’ve had it, and a little something about why it’s special to you. I envision a glorious Narthex making us all feel to close to the story of Jesus’s humble birth and the preciousness of this season.Thank you, Terre & the Chancel Choir

Children’s Corner

November 2018

Whew! October is over and done! Of course, that means that another “Trick or Trunk” is history! We had some great trunks, great games, and great volunteers! We had such a wonderful crowd. I think that everyone that participated had an awesome time!

And so, we move forward! Believe it or not, Ms. Bentley is already working on the Christmas musical with the kiddos! So, put this on your calendar! The children’s program will be Dec. 5th. It is a bit earlier this year, so make sure that you write it down!

Remember, no activities at all during the week of Thanksgiving. I hope that all of you know, how Thankful that I am for you and your children! We love what we do here to help your children become faithful disciples of Jesus!

Blessings,Kellye

A Note From Sarah

United Student Ministries has been very busy with events in the last month. Students have participated in See You At The Pole, Fuse Night, and Fields of Faith, all which have been at the High School.

On Wednesday’s we have discussed what it means to Believe in God, Accept Christ and Repent to God. In the next month, we will talk about what it means to Follow after Christ. This will include some mission activities, such as packing Thanksgiving baskets and writing cards to the prayer list names, as well as a guest speaker or two.

In Sunday Sit Down, we have been going through the book of Luke, diving into the life of Jesus and looking at His ministry and heart for the lost and hurting.

Please note that we will have no youth the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I will also be out of town from Nov 8-17, but will be reachable on my phone.

Blessings,

Sarah
