First thoughts First United Methodist Church

Dear Church Family,
The seasons are shifting, and with them come new life.
This is true as the weather season turns from winter to spring,
with April Showers already on their way. The flowers are
blooming, the birds are chirping, the bees are buzzing, and the
pollen is all around us. Isn't it amazing that the yellow dust
that covers our cars, houses, and anything else outside is a
symbol of the new life Spring brings? Most of the time we think
about this yellowish film in terms of how it impacts us through
allergy and sinus issues. But it is a symbol of spring the same as flowers, birds, bees,
and the like.
Another season shift is the church season, as it is moving from Lent to Easter.
The last 40+ days we have been on a journey towards Easter, and it is here at last.
This coming Sunday is the beginning of the new season, Resurrection Sunday or as
it is commonly called Easter Sunday. However, as we spoke of during Advent, the
church doesn't just have one day but a whole season to celebrate the resurrection of
our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This season starts with Resurrection Sunday and
goes 50 days until Pentecost. In fact, Pentecost means 50th as in the 50th day after
Easter.
As we move from 40 days of Lent to the 50 days of Easter, we move from reflec-
tion and repentance to light and life. Just as Spring brings new life to the earth,
plants, and animals, we are giving new life through the resurrection of our Lord.
Christ defeated death, as the scripture says: '"Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?"' (1 Cor. 15:55) We need not fear death, for Christ is
victorious over the sting it had since the dawn of time. Instead, we are given the
chance to live as beloved children of God who is well pleased with us.
I invite you during the season of Easter, April 4-May 23, to look not at the dark
of the world, but the light of Christ then shine His light. To look not at death and be
fearful, but life and be hopeful. To look not at sorrow, shame, and guilt, but joy and
peace of the Lord. Look to Christ this Easter season, and find in him all you ever
wanted and all you will ever need.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Wade

Pastor Wade’s New Bible Study
Starting Tuesday, April 13th, two groups will be studying Along
The Road by Jack Beck.
Jack is an Old Testament scholar who spends time each year in the
Holy Land studying the places Jesus walked.
Jack says that "while walking the roads of the Holy Land, Jesus
often taught His followers lessons that would come down to us
through God’s Word.
But, from our perspective—in our very different time and place—
many of the Lord’s allusions to the surrounding landscape have
been lost." In Along the Road, John Beck highlights;
how the land provided talking points, and
how Jewish teachers used the hills and valleys as a lesson plan.
Beck takes you through the life and ministry of Christ in a 7-part
program that starts with the birth of Christ in a Bethlehem stable.
April 13th @ 10:30 am and Family of @ 5:30 pm,
both classes will be on Tuesdays.

Thank you for the very nice retirement send-off! I will
always value my time in the FUMC office, where I made
so many wonderful friends and acquaintances.
Thank you for the elegant cross necklace, which is such
a treasure! I also appreciate the money that was in the
card. I was overwhelmed with your generosity.
At the risk of leaving out someone, I would like to give
special thanks to: Cindy Duncan and the SPR Commit-

tees.
Gary and Linda Green for selecting the beautiful cross
necklace.

I was blessed to work with wonderful Pastors, staff, and
