Objectives: By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1. Scan reading texts for the correct answers.
2. Match the words from reading texts with correct definitions.

Opening: Greeting
T greets all of the SS. T introduces himself to the class. T checks the SS’ attendance.
Review T revises the previously learned lesson from last
CE session. Warm-up
T: How many types of sports do you know? T: what sport do you think is the most popular? T: look at these photos and picture, can you tell me
something about them?
*Transitional Phrase: “Ok, today we are going to learn about football, the history of football and the trend of the globe about football”
T states the objective of today’s lesson.

Body Technique 1: “Words Matching”
T gives a handout to SS which contains a list of vocabulary and their definitions.
T asks SS to match the words with their correct definitions
T goes through the AS with the SS quickly.
*Transitional Phrase: “Thank you very much everyone. Before we move to our passage reading, let me give you a handout talking about Scanning that you are going to use in the next activity.”
Technique 2: “Scanning for statistics” T gives handout which related to how we can scan
a text. T goes through the hand out with SS T gives another handout for SS to practice scanning
in pairs SS don’t have to care about difficult words T asks SS to compare their answers with their
partners T checks the answer quickly with the whole class T asks the pair to decide who read the introduction
and who read the final part of the beautiful game, and ask them to answer EX 2 and share with partner.
*Transitional Phrase: “Just do scanning isn’t enough for all of you to understand the texts, so now I would like to put you into 6 groups ”

Some SS may finish earlier than the others.
It may take longer if the SS are poor at scanning and if necessary T doesn’t check the answers as a whole.

Technique 3: “Reading Comprehension” T asks SS to form 6 different groups. T provide handout to SS by using text A(Began)
and B (Football around the world). SS take turn sharing information SS who got Text A answer EX 3 & SS who got
Text B answer EX 4 T asks SSt to compare their answers with the group
members T checks the AS as a whole
*Transitional Phrase: “Thank you everyone for your hard working. Next we are going to discuss some question relate to the text you had read so far.”
Technique 4: “Group discussion” T: in the same group please answer 4 questions in
the book on page 58. T: there is no right or wrong answer it is just your
opinion. Ss select one representative to answers their
question to the class.
Closing: T summarizes what the ss have learned. T thanks and praises the ss.

This technique may take longer because it depends on students’ comprehension of the text and their opinions.
*Note:
1. This is an 80 minutes’ lesson plan; however, it is subjected to change depending on the real situation in the class.2. The time for each technique/activity will vary according to the actual performance of the students.
