An Update From the Transition Committee

Dear Friends,

This has been a busy month for your Interim Pastor Search Committee. To give you an update on what has been accomplished, let's review the steps we have taken to be able to begin interviewing potential candidates. First we need-ed to understand "what would be the role of the Interim minister”. The Handbook For Beginning The Pastoral Search states "The Interim Minister’s tasks are to help the congregation:

1. Come to terms with the history of the congregation 2. Discover a "new identity" [Mission Study] developing a vision/mission about the future direction of the church 3. Financial review 4. Shift power and responsibility as needed 5. Reconnect with other Mid-Councils [strengthening the relationship with the Presbytery, Synod, and G.A.] 6. Creation of Church Information Form”

With all those tasks in mind we found our current church mission statement to help any new Interim Pastor understand what we believe to be our church mission. I think you all will find it of value so I have printed it below. This Church Mission Statement has been approved by our session and can be found in our Church Policies and Procedures Manual.

"As God has called us in Jesus Christ by His love an d Grace, our purpose is to glorify Him and exalt Hi s name forever. As a covenant family, we bear witness to his redeeming love, encouraging all people to b e reconciled to God.

We affirm the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Te staments to be the Word of God, the only rule of fa ith and practice. We are committed to the faithful proc lamation of the gospel of Christ to the lost world.

We are reformed in faith and endeavor to minister w ith grace to our families, church, community, and t he world by expressing God's love in works of mercy an d service."

By understanding the role of the interim minister and our Mission Statement we were able to identify 1. What was working well in our church 2. Where do we need work 3. What characteristics are needed by our Interim minister 4. Built the framework of a discussion for each candidate to determine if they represented what we were looking for. 5. Asked Session for approval of salary range plus manse as a package that could be used as an offer for potential candidate.

To date we have received five resumes and determined that four should be given the opportunity to interview. Interviews will start next week. Once we have found a candidate we will present him/her to the Session for their approv-al. Please remember this is an act of spiritual discernment and we need your prayers and the support of the Holy Spirit for us to be successful. Please feel free to contact any members of this committee if you have questions about our progress. We are happy to discuss the steps we are taking and where we are in the process of this important selection. Please understand there is specific information we cannot share concerning potential candidates like, names, our own personal impressions of interviews, etc. We want to be a "united committee of one opinion" when we make our recommendation to the Session. We also wish to be respectful to interview candidates and not disclose anything they believe may be of a personal nature.

Here are the names of our committee members if you wish to reach out to any of us:

Peggy Davidson; chairperson, Sandy Bickett, Don Copeland, Dick Nelson, Nancy Omohundro, Teresa Trimble, Chip Whittington

A Message from the PW Moderator Another year has come and gone and I want to thank you for all the encouraging words and support you have shown. Along with the rest of the ladies on the council, we are working on bringing the fellowship back to our PW and it is getting better with each event we schedule. It’s not easy trying to figure out what is going to work and what’s not, but I feel the council has done an incredible job. Thank you ladies!

With the final month approaching there is still the Spiritual Enrichment position open. Please contact your circle moderator or Corky Simmons if you would like to learn more on the duties. Peggy Sanford has resigned her position as Vice-Moderator. She is credited for bringing back the Least Coin program and the Honorary Life Membership Award. We thank her for the time and devotion she put in on the council. She will be serving as the Moder-ator for Cluster Five so she won’t be getting off so easily. Thank you, Peggy, for your time.

I am not without a vice-moderator, though. Corky Simmons has graciously taken that position and will be working diligently on new members and placing women in circles. If you know of a member we have missed, please contact Corky with that information.

Keep your eyes and ears open to upcoming events and fundraisers we are working on for the summer. Thank you all, again, for another wonderful year.

In Christ, Angie Copeland

What a wonderful and special patriotic graduation day we had as our 4 & 5 yr. olds, dressed in caps and gowns with tassels swinging, celebrated the conclusion of Preschool and the anticipation of starting Kindergarten in the fall! We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful and supportive parents, grandparents and special friends who came to cheer the children on and make the day a memorable one. We pray for our little ones as they go forth and thank them for all the memories they have left with us.

Our month of May was chocked full of fun activities and we enjoyed our Pizza Days, Cinco De Mayo, Car (Big Wheels) Wash, Water Days, Ice Cream Eating and Picnics at the Park. There is always a lump in our throats as our year comes to an end, but we look forward to a fun and relaxing summer for everyone and a time to “step off the treadmill.” Our terrific teachers have already been hard at work on plans for the 2012-2013 school year!

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Jeremy Sharpley, Anson Coffee and Mark Kortright for their help and hard work on our playground workday. We have a beautiful new structure and a great deal of cleaning was done. Thank you men!!

On a sentimental and bittersweet note we bid our beloved Mrs. Cindy Archer good-bye as she is retiring after 22 years at Preschool. We wish her all the best and are grateful for all the love and care she gave to the 500+ children during her time here. We will miss you Mrs. Cindy, and please come back and visit us!

We are grateful to all the wonderful people who work so hard to help the Preschool program run smoothly, and so often their work is done quietly behind the scenes. Our church secretary, Patti Loner, takes care of details large and small, church treasurer, LuAnne Sledge, handles all our finances, and sexton, Billy Black, cheerfully takes care of our supply needs and accidents big and small! We are eternally grateful to the church for our wonderful rooms, the playground, and the opportunity it affords us to offer it to all of you.

It will be just a blink and we’ll be welcoming back our little friends, both old and new. The “Sneak-a-Peek” orientation days are August 20 th and 21 st, and you’ll be receiving a letter from us in July with all the details.

May God be watching over you as you travel this summer and in all that you do. I look forward to seeing you out and about, and then before you know it, back in the drive-through!

With love, Mrs. Nancy
