Meet our Summer Intern: Colten Mayberry
Born into a deeply rooted farming family, many would first think that my path in life had already been laid out for me. Where I'm from, the Mayberry's are practically
all born with a plough in one hand, and a hunting rifle in another. They're good, honest, hardworking men and
women that have always been dedicated to their families and their land.
You can imagine their confusion when I came along. My whole life I've been indecisive, unsure of where I belong and what I should be doing; what my purpose should be.
From being a Speech and Debate nerd in high school, to my current pursuit of obtaining a Business Administration
Degree at SEMO, I've always struggled to find where I fit in life. Yet through it all I've been guided by a thirst to
understand my faith; to poke it and prod it and make it make sense to my life and to the lives of others. It started when I established my own Bible Study back at my high school, continued when I started guest speaking for local churches, and now it's manifesting itself in being a part of
this church and the Baptist Student Center. Hello everyone, my name is Colten Mayberry, and right
now—in this season of my life—I don't have any questions about where I belong. And I thank you all for that.
There will be a Wedding Shower for Amber Pierce sometime in June at the
church. Please check the upcoming bulletins for more information. Amber
is registered at Kohl’s, Target, and Bed, Bath and Beyond. Her wedding is
July 2nd, 2016. Everyone is invited to come and celebrate her upcoming
wedding!
Lydia Meece and her fiancé will be getting married July 9th, 2016. On June
26th, in lieu of gifts we will be collecting gift cards and cash because Lydia
will be going to medical school on the east coast and they will not have much
space. There will be a basket for everyone to drop off their cards.

Our sermon series for this summer will be called: Colorful Stories. We will be exploring some of the well-known stories from the Old Testament. As we dive into these stories, we’ll be listening for God’s voice in a new and fresh way.
Some people have been turned off by religion because they feel that they have been given simplistic answers to their complex questions. Maybe religion (at its best) can be a place for discussion and dialogue about some of our deepest questions. This summer discussion group will focus on tackling some beliefs in a way that offers us some varied perspectives across the spectrum of Christian belief. We will be tackling these questions on Tuesday nights, 6:30-8:00 PM at Cup 'N' Cork: May 31 - What Do I Believe? June 7 - How do we read the Bible? June 14 - How was the Earth made? June 21 - *not meeting* June 28 - Does God know everything? July 5 - Who was Jesus? July 12 - *not meeting* July 19 - What does the cross mean for us? July 26 - What does it mean to be "saved"? Anybody and everybody is welcome to join us. This will be a place for respectful, reciprocal dialogue about our beliefs, faith, and meaning in our lives.
Join us beginning on Wednesday, May 25th at 9:30 AM for a Summer Bible Study as we journal through the Parables of Jesus. This study will be led by Tyler Tankersley, Gerald Collier, & Ron Winstead. This is geared for seniors, but anyone is welcome to join us!
We welcome our newest members
Marie Francis and the Clubbs family (Bob, Brooke, Eva,
Lily, and Eli)!
Family in Focus: Gene and Judy Pulley
Gene and Judy Pulley are longtime Cape residents. Judy grew up here and Gene moved here in 1966. They have 2 adult
children, Jeff Pulley and Kim Spear, and one terrific grandson, Max. Gene and Judy are both retired teachers. Judy taught foreign
language in Jackson; Gene taught social studies and was also a school counselor in
Wolf Lake, Illinois. They have a long standing tradition which started in the
blizzard of 1979: every winter they freeze some of the snow we receive and save it for
July 4! They have been known to make interesting designs in their driveway with the preserved snow and use the rest for a
snowball fight!
