Christmas and Easter we know. Even Good Friday most of us understand. But what in the world is Maundy Thursday?

Maundy Thursday is the Thursday before Easter, the night before Jesus was crucified. Jesus celebrated his final Passover with the disciples and created a new ordinance through which they could remember Him: the Lord’s Supper. That night Jesus washed the disciples’ feet in an extraordinary display of love and humility. Then he commanded them to do the same for each other.

That’s where the “maundy” comes in. “Maundy” is a shortened form of mandatum (Latin), which means mandate or command. Jesus commanded the disciples to love and to serve one another. A new command-ment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another (John 13:34, ESV).

Due to social distancing restrictions, our Maundy Thursday Service will be adapted this year for our virtual gathering. We won’t be providing the elements as we normally do. This year the event is B.Y.O.E. (Bring Your Own Elements). You will need to bring your own bread and juice from your kitchen and join us for the service on-line which will be live-streamed on both our church website and Facebook.

The coronavirus is causing all kinds of disruptions and cancellations in our lives. But it won’t cancel our Maundy Thursday observance. I hope you will join us as from your sofa Thursday night as we re-member and honor the ultimate sacrifice which Jesus made for each of us. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

Do you miss worshiping with your church family? Join us for weekly worship services from the convenience of your home. Our church staff guides us each week with music, scripture, pray-ers, children’s messages, and sermons. The worship experiences are recorded in our sanctuary, which keeps us feeling connected to God and to our church home. The services are posted every Sunday morning so that you can worship at a time that is convenient for you. Here is the Sunday Worship link from our church website: https://vimeo.com/channels/1406153. WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT SUNDAY SCHOOL?

Psalm 150:1 ESV

Praise the LORD! Praise God in His sanctuary; praise Him in His might heavens!

Several of our adult Sunday School Classes have been active and are continuing their Sunday School lessons each Sunday for their Classes. There are several meet-ing providers, including WebEx and Zoom, which are two. Both are free, and both provide a meeting that al-lows you to virtually meet and have your lesson with other members of your class without leaving your home. I am told that Zoom is a very friendly and easy to use program. I have signed up and will participate in the Bill O’Neal Class being taught by David Earp that will start this Sunday, April 12th through June 14th at 9:30 am (We can cancel anytime or extend if needed). The link to sign-up for a free Zoom account is: https://zoom.us/

Our Easter Offering for North American/Global

Missions Continues…

We continue to give to our Baptist Missionaries who are serving throughout the US and Canada during the current pandemic. Most serve in urban centers where the corona-virus is more prevalent. Pray for our North American Mis-sion Board and Cooperative Baptist Fellowship Missionaries whose ministries are being adapted to show God’s love dur-ing this time of national crisis. The Annie Armstrong Easter Offering supports our NAMB Missionaries while our CBF Global Missions Offering sup-ports our CBF Missionaries.
