Jason’s Message Dear families and friends of Bell P-10 State School, This Friday staff and students will be celebrating National Tree Day, which was founded in 1996 by Planet Ark and Olivia Newton-John. It has now grown in to Australia's largest community tree planting and nature protection event. Planet Ark is asking Australians to help us plant one million new native trees and shrubs across the country. National Tree Day is a call to action for all Australians to put their hands in the earth and give back to their community. Each year, about 300,000 people volunteer their time to engage in environmental activities that educate individuals about the world around them. It's a day to venture outdoors and get to know your community, and most importantly, to have fun! As part of our Eco-Schools program at Bell State School, the Eco Schools committee led by Mrs. Vicki McGuire and Mrs. Lisa Gall have organised a celebration of this day for the students and planting a tree on the grounds here at school. As you may know, Bell State School achieved the Green Flag award and in order to maintain that level, students must commit to the practices that allowed us to be awarded the award a couple of years ago. Shredded Paper Mulch $2ea Eco Schools have available for purchase garbage bags of shredded paper. This makes excellent garden mulch.

Orchard Success - Ag Science In Term 3 last year the Agricultural Science students planted a small orchard. Today we enjoyed the fruits of that labour with a small but very tasty crop of Imperial mandarins, a Blood range and a Valencia orange. Eco schools students also enjoyed a sweet treat!

Athletics Term 3 The Athletics Carnival is set to take place this term on Thursday the 3rd of September (Week 8). We are able to hold the carnival later in the term as there will be no Dar-ling Downs and State Trials for athletics this year due to COVD19. During the term, each class will practise differ-ent track and field events so they are prepared for the each event in week 8. We are also very lucky to have Kendall Newton-Smith from Little Athletics attending Bell State School on a Wednesday and Thursday for the next 2 weeks. Each class will attend 3 sessions per week to hone their athletic skills with Kendall. Last week, Kendall focussed on javelin and discus. This week we are working on high jump and triple jump. I look forward to seeing you all in Week 8 at the Athletics Carnival in your green and yellow! Mrs Kirsten Todd
