Chapter 1- The Dream

One warm Green-leaf season, Ferns was just about to wake up when a bright yellow

dragon glided to her dream. Ferns realised that the yellow dragon was a Sun Dragon,

her favourite type of dragon! The Sun Dragon quietly growled to her, You must travel

to a tall dark mountain, surrounded by the fluffiest clouds in the sky. At the very top,

you shall meet with other dragons. All of you will receive a special rock. Then it flew

away into some cold mist that had just appeared. Ferns woke up, she felt very

confused. Why or how could a rock be special? How would she know where to find the

fluffy clouds? She couldnt even fly above the ground let alone up a mountain.

Aqua was about to wake up when a bright turquoise dragon leapt into her dream.

Suddenly Aqua didnt want to wake up, she wanted to speak to the dragon. It was a

Plasma Dragon. The Plasma Dragon whispered Travel and meet with other dragons at a

mountain. The clouds surrounding it will be the fluffiest in the sky. Swim there. Astream leads from your home to the top of the mountain. Then it was gone, but, the

dragons voice was still talking You will receive a special rock from the sky. Aqua woke

up, puzzled and exited. Why would a rock be special and come from the sky? Aqua

wanted to know.

Suddenly, a green dragon bounded through the smoke in Skys dream, a Clover Dragon,

Skys favourite type of dragon! It spoke, Sky, you must travel to a dark mountain with

fluffy clouds. There you shall receive a special rock. But it had already flown away into

the smoke before Sky could speak to it. Sky woke up feeling excited. A special rock!

Fluffy clouds with a dark mountain!

Chapter 2- Special Rock Fall

Ferns, Aqua, Sky and two other dragons had met as they travelled, they were going to

journey to the mountain together. An Ice Dragon named Icie shivered and spoke It is

so cold. Its even colder than my Cold home or the Cold Lake by my house. Lets keep

moving, we must be getting close by now. The mountains were getting darker but the

clouds werent that fluffy yet. I had a dream last night. It told me to travel here.

Ferns said. The other dragons cried Me too! They talked excitedly about what had

appeared in their dreams. Suddenly, the clouds started to become fluffier and fluffier,

soon they were the fluffiest that the dragons had ever seen. The dragons bounded up

the mountain as fast they could. Immediately, 5 rocks fell from the sky! Each dragon

caught one and read it. Flash, a Lightning Dragon read hers first. It said:

To Flash,

You have a place in FireFall: The School for Dragons, term begins in a weeks time. You

They all read their rocks and compared them together. They all said the same thing.

Ferns looked up at the sun. Then, suddenly it transformed into the Sun Dragon that

Ferns had seen in her dream. She waved her tail at it and then it was gone. Fire Rising

Alley! Let's go! Aqua shouted.

waterproof or flameproof? Well, waterproof robes are for dragons going to

WaterStream School. So, is it Firefall or WaterStream? Icie replied Firefall.

Flameproof robes for us please. The dragons were taken to one of the shop sides with

a door saying FIREFALL. FLAMEPROOF ROBES. They were led in and picked the robes

that they needed.

All the dragons checked that they had everything that they needed for school. How

are we going to get to the school? wondered Sky, shall we check our rocks from more

information? The dragons studied their rocks and found no extra information. How

about we head to the station and see if we can find someone to help us? suggested

Aqua.

Chapter 4- The Object

At the train station, the dragons looked for something to take them to Firefall School.

Suddenly Aqua shouted Over here! The dragons stomped over and saw what Aqua had

seen. Hidden amongst the bushes was a strange object, Ferns thought it was a glass- a

very big glass, big enough for the dragons to fit into. At the very bottom, there was

just a big hole leading underground. Flash cried Let's jump in! Who's first? Without

waiting for an answer, Flash screamed eagerly I know who will be first! I'll go down! It

probably leads to FireFall School. Byeeeee! Flash leaped enthusiastically in and was

pulled underground. A little white dragon was coming towards them. She jumped in

after Flash going down into the darkness. The dragons glanced at each other, nodding.

They hopped in, one by one, and shivered as gusts of strong wind pushed them into the

ground. Ferns could see that a tunnel had been dug as some claw marks could be seen in

the muddy soil.

Chapter 5- Firefall School

Is this FireFall School? Flash was asking the little white dragon when the other

dragons appeared from the glass. She nodded and said This is FireFall School. That

giant glass object was called the Disappearer. Follow me, we can go in for some food

The dragons followed her into FireFall. Through the doors, a lovely warm smell hit

them. The little white Bloom dragon took them through a maze of tunnels with the

lovely smells growing stronger. The Bloom Dragon came to a halt in front of a huge cave.

Aqua could make out the outlines of thousands of dragons, their eyes glowing bright in

the dark. Claws scrabbling and scratching on the slippery rocks of the cave floor told

Icie that there were other dragons following them into the school. Suddenly, the huge

cave lit up with bright lights which signaled to the dragons to start picking and eating

food off their plates. The young dragons ran to find a space to sit and started eating

their meal of fish and Flame Treats.

Flash looked up and saw the Scorch Dragon, Professor Scorchtooth, was watching them

carefully as he spoke to a big Earth Dragon, Professor Earthclaw. Professor

Earthclaw was a large Earth Dragon with big silver spikes along his back. He announced

My name is Professor Earthclaw; I am the Head Dragon of FireFall School. Please

enjoy this feast in the Great Cave before it is time to head to the nests. We have some

new dragons to be shown to their sleeping nests. Dragons, stand up. Three white Bloom

Dragons stood up and took the new dragons away to their sleeping cave. The nests were

hidden inside a warm cave with dips in the floor. Trailing from the roof were spiky

brambles with soft feathers attached onto the spikes, in the dips were feathers, moss

and soft furry leaves. There were some flying nests for the Air Dragons up in the

corners. Some were low and some were high up. When they had been shown to their

nests and dropped off all their school equipment and bags, they were taken back to the

Great Cave for a final evening assembly. They listened to Professor Earthclaw telling

them about the school and what was to be expected of the dragons whilst they were at

FireFall. He also introduced the large dragons that would be teaching them. The young

dragons had already guessed the Scorch Dragons name, then they learned that he

would be teaching them in their Fire Breathing lessons. The young dragons helped

themselves to some of the remaining food before it was finally time to head to the

nests and close their glowing eyes.

Back in the sleeping nests, the three Bloom Dragons growled Stop talking and go to

sleep now. Well tell you to wake up for your Flying lesson. Then youve got your Fire

Breathing lesson. They flew out of the cave den as Flash muttered to Icie WOW!

They can fly! Icie laughed and reminded Flash Yeah, but we might be able to by the

end of the flying lesson. I want to fly into a cloud. Flash and Icie settled into the

feathers, moss and soft leaves and within seconds, they were asleep.

Chapter 6- The First Lessons

They were woken by the Bloom Dragons snarling at them to wake up as the tired

dragons hadnt heard their Wakeup Cry. The dragons slowly uncurled themselves from

their nests, stretched their wings and stood up. They headed off to breakfast which

was Dragon Snaps or Pumpermelons, they ate hungrily before rushing back to their cave

den to collect their flying kit. Flash was excited by wanting to know how to fly. One of

the Bloom Dragons took them outside to a field where a rainbow coloured dragon was

waiting for them. She saw that Sky was flying, but not very high. The Rainbow Dragon

said I am Madam Rainbowsky, I am your flying teacher. The Air Dragon she said

pointing at Sky, can already fly but not very high. What are your names? The 5

dragons introduced themselves. Madam Rainbowsky growled to Sky Sky, push up with

your wings and flap them faster and faster until you can stay at the same height in the

air, then try flapping your wings slowly to keep the same height. Practice it for me.

She spoke encouragingly to the 4 other dragons Jump and get faster and faster and

faster with your wings. Then, when youre really fast, slow your wings and see if you can

maintain that height. Practice it as well for me, Ill be back to see how you are getting

on. Suddenly, Flash shouted Look at me! I'm going to stand on the cloud! As she

spoke, Flash forgot to flap her wings and fell to the ground with a big crash. Flash was

screaming Aaargh! Madam Rainbowsky spoke sternly to Flash with an edgy growl in her

voice Flash, do not go that high again. Stay the same height as the other dragons or

you'll miss the Fire Breathing lesson. Go up to their height and stay there. She then

told them to go down you must slow your wings and glide down. Sky, you can't because

you are an Air Dragon and they do everything hovering in the air, so, stay up there and

fly round FireFall. But, all of you, you might get to go even higher tomorrow. She

glanced towards the doors of FireFall where some Bloom Dragons were waiting.

Madam Rainbowsky sent the young dragons off from her lesson. They flew, in a variety

of ways, over towards the Bloom Dragons who snarled Hurry up. You'll want to breathe

fire once you're a Dragon Warrior. Anyway, Professor Scorchtooth's waiting for you.

Also, do not try and set his tail on fire or he'll claw your wings. A Moon Dragon did that

once but luckily she escaped before he hurt her. Let's go.

It was cold in Professor Scorchtooths classroom. Ferns thought that they should warm

it up with a bit of fire breath! A huge Scorch Dragon and two Bloom Dragons were

setting up targets along the dark walls. The Bloom Dragons looked nervous as they

scurried out of the door. Professor Scorchtooth growled Sit down and watch me and

the Rain Dragon. He showed them soft clumps of grass to sit on as her swooped over

to the Rain Dragon. Professor Scorchtooth signalled for the Rain Dragon to stay back.

He blew a huge cloud of fire and watched as it faded away and turned to smoke. Now

practice that for me then, Professor Scorchtooth instructed the shivering dragons as

they started practicing. He shouted, Now stop! The dragons stopped and listed to the

Professor growling to them. Try is again at those targets on the walls now, only twice

though. Begin. They started trying to hit the targets with whatever they breathe;

wind for Sky, bubbles for Aqua, lightning for Flash, leaves for Ferns and snowflakes for

Icie.

After hitting the target on her first attempt, Flash tried to do something amazing. She

started shaking her head and breathing lightning at the same time. When she tried, the

lightening went towards Professor Scorchtooths tail. It hit his tail, making it crackle

with light. Professor Scorchtooth spun around and snarled Who did that?! Everyone

looked at Flash. Professor Scorchtooth glanced at his tail and saw it had been struck

by lightening. He grumbled loudly, only one dragon in this cave has the ability to strike

lightening. He narrowed his gleaming orange eyes and growled FLASH! but Flash had

already escaped from the cave and had gone to lunch.

What could a Dragon Warrior be? Ferns asked Flash over the lunch table. Flash

answered Well, it must be a fighting dragon, or, an odd-looking dragon wearing silly

stuff! But, it might be a dragon with a squashed Pumpermelon on its head! Icie came up

to them and told Flash It's a dragon that fights and hunts. Ferns felt puzzled as she

questioned Icie How did you know? Did the Bloom Dragons tell you? Icie shook her

head and answered No, Professor Earthclaw told me. He said that by the end of term

we would be Dragon Warriors. We get new names and special shiny medals. But, when I

asked him why Professor Scorchtooth is so evil, he didn't answer. The 2 other dragons

bounded up and excitedly told Icie, Ferns and Flash Theres a Fireball match today! A

match, FireFall against WaterStream School!

The Bloom Dragons had sneaked up on Flash and interrupted, Flash, we heard about

what you did in fire breathing. Did Scorchtooth claw your wings? Flash showed them

her unharmed wings before the Bloom Dragons continued, A Fireball match today. For

you, tomorrow, you get Fireball practice. FireFall against WaterStream. WaterStream

School are really fast. We sometimes win though. In WaterStream, watch out for 9

Storm Dragons. They're evil and work for HornClaws they lowered their growl and

whispered just like Professor Scorchtooth. That's why he's so evil.

Chapter 7- The Match

As the young dragons stepped towards their feather patches, Ferns couldnt hear

anything except for the cheers for FireFall and WaterStream. Looking down to the

grassy ground of the Fireball arena she saw 20 red dragons and 20 blue dragons

standing in two lines. Madam Rainbowsky walked out from a hole in a tower where the

teachers of both schools sat. She threw 2 balls out, one big and green, the other, big

and yellow. All the dragons took flight at once. Nine Storm dragons spiraled up and

lunged for the big green ball (the WaterStream ball), which was instantly batted away

from them by a dark and light blue tail. It was a Rain Dragon, smaller than the one that

taught with Professor Scorchtooth in Fire Breathing. The Rain Dragon flew quickly

towards the big yellow ball (the FireFall ball), and used a big wooden bat to hit it into a

net. Flash screamed Goal for FireFall! Yay! WaterStream were whizzing past FireFall;

the Bloom Dragons had been right, they were really fast. One of the Bloom Dragons

glided past them and caught the FireFall ball, sending it zooming into the net. A dark

grey dragon blocked to stop the Bloom Dragon, she hit it into another net and scored a

further goal.

FireFall had won the match. Cheers rippled through the den, echoing and bouncing off

the rock walls. Dragons jumped around in celebration, whilst dark shadows fell over the

walls. There was a scratching sound as the shadows faded away. Where the shadows

had stood, now there were pictures of horns and writing saying HORNCLAWS. PLAN.

THUNDERBLAZE. None of the celebrating dragons had noticed, apart from Flash. She

shook her head and silently wondered if she was seeing and hearing things; there

werent any dragons about with sharp claws that could scratch into rock. Flash prodded

her friends and whispered to them, Look up on the walls. Theres pictures of horns and

writing that says HORNCLAWS PLAN THUNDERBLAZE. The four dragons looked

around at the walls and spotted the mystery horns and writing. Sky put a wing to her

mouth as she saw the words in front of her. What could it mean? she gasped as her

eyes grew wide with wonder and fear.

Chapter 8- The Forest

At night, after the Bloom Dragons had said Sleeping time now, Flash whispered to the

rest of her dragon friends, Let's explore the forest and see if we can work out what

that message could mean. So the 5 dragons crept out of their den and into the flying

field. They crossed it and came to a dark forest. Sky hesitated before leading them

into the dark trees. A disappearing shiny silver horn was slowly fading away as

Professor Scorchtooth and 9 Storm Dragons bounded into sight. More dragons with evil

eyes appeared out of the foggy mist. Feeling horrified, Aqua realised that the 9 Storm

Dragons had been in the Fireball match and WaterStream as well as the HornClaws.

Flash squealed in terror as the young dragons heard an evil conversation between the

dragons. The dragons were saying need a new plan.

Yes. I just heard one squeal. Windblow, you ruined our plan. Icie quietly hissed to her

friends Run! Back to FireFall! When none of the dragons moved a single claw, Icie

whispered Now! Run! Just go!

As they were running back to FireFall, Sky questioned her friends, what were they

saying? We didnt get to hear everything they said. Lets try and figure out they said

by ...need a new plan. Perhaps we should go and speak to Professor Earthclaw about

what all this means. Aqua shouted back at her, No, well keep this a secret and try and

work out what they said on our own! If we want to be Dragon Warriors, we cant always

ask FireFall for help, we might not be living close by when we are warriors and have

themsuggest everythingto us, we haveto think for ourselves.

Ferns nodded and commented to Aqua, yeah, we should keep it to ourselves and try and

work out what it means without any help. We can use our meal times to talk about it.

They plodded wearily back to their sleeping cave, except for Sky who fluttered slowly

next to them and then they collapsed exhaustedly into their nests.

Chapter 9

The next morning, the 5 new dragons were led to Care and Survival by the Bloom

Dragons. Their teacher, Mrs Silverwings, was a friendly Silver Dragon. She told them

Sit on those log stumps. Do you have your Nest Pieces, your Claw Sharpeners, your

Nest Building Starter Book and your Breath Freshener? But, most importantly, do you

have your 10 survival books? whilst pointing with her tail as to where to sit. They

nodded as they flew to their log stumps. Mrs Silverwings began First, we will do

survival. Dragons, get your books out. The dragons got their Survival Books out and

started reading from Page 2, Growling Starters. It said To growl, you must first close

your mouth and start a rumbling noise in your throat. Follow these instructions and

youll be growling in no time.

1. Make a rumble in your throat.

2. Concentrate on nothing except for the rumble.

3. Think of something bad or get angry.

4. Now do all these things together and you will be able to growl.

When you can do it, go to Page 4, Growling Tips.

The dragons moved on to Page 4 where they learnt how to growl in different ways. It

told them If a baby dragon is attacking you, growl. If the little dragon gets scared,

you have to make your growl sound playful. If you are facing an evil dragon, you must

growl angrily as this might frighten it away. Do not make this a quiet growl for theenemy dragon; it may sound to them as if you are scared. These instructions will make

your growl playful:

1. Do not narrow your eyes, keep them open and wide like you are scared of the

baby dragon attacking you.

2. Make a quiet, short rumble in your throat.

These instructions will make your growl frightening:

1. Narrow your eyes.2. Bare your teeth inside your mouth.

3. Think angry thoughts.

4. Open your mouth and start growling, as your mouth begins to close, make

your growl lower and lower.

The five dragons started to practice growling beginning with the instructions on Page 2,

then they started to make it sound playful and then angry.

In the nest building part of Care, Flash scanned through her Nest Building book. She

tied bendy sticks together to make the base of her nest. Then she covered it with

droopy ferns that hung over the edges of some twigs that were building a tall ring

around her tied sticks. Flash put some moss into the bottom of her nest and scattered

fluffy feathers and soft leaves around it. As she sprinkled the feathers and leaves into

her nest, she accidentally dislodged one of her tied twigs and the whole nest collapsed

in a bundle of nest pieces! Ooopsy whispered Flash, that wasnt meant to happen! Allthe feathers and leaves floated over towards the other dragons and tickled their

noses. They hooted FLASH! but Flash had already disappeared to the Fireball arena.

Madam Mooncloud hesitated before speaking again, before we begin, there are

9 rules about Fireball and Nightball.

Madam Mooncloud listed the rules:

Always bat the other team's ball away from them

Dodge attacking dragons and take their ball then throw it somewhere

Don't hurt other dragons

Only score with your team's ball

Don't do any loop-the-loops

Never stop to look around, just fly and look

Anyone watching must never shout 'Goal for ...'

Rescue hurt or any falling dragon

She hesitated again before carrying on and never getting angry when the

other team wins a match.

Madam Mooncloud saw the dragons bags with their bats in. She growled Go and

get the bats. Then fly up as high as those nets. Get into groups of two. Sky, you

can stop the other team from getting the ball through a net. I'll have Aqua with

Icie and Flash with Ferns. Icie's team can pretend to be WaterStream and

Ferns' team will be FireFall. She paused as they got into positions, Sky, go up

to those nets and wait in front of them. She added Let's see how fast you are,

Sky. You'll need to be quick and fast. Use your wings to block as well. Right, one

two threeGO NOW! Ferns instantly whizzed up, with Flash right behind her.

Ferns stopped and caught the FireFall ball. She batted away the WaterStream

ball, which had Icie chasing after it quickly like a strike of lightning.

A scared shout came from the sky. Aqua stopped to look up at where the sound

had come from, seeing that it had turned stormy in a few seconds. In the dark

grey clouds and flashes of lightning, there was a little orange Blazing Dragon

being tossed and thrown around in the wind. It cried out Help me! Help!

Suddenly the thunder stopped, along with the wind. The Blazing Dragon fell

down towards the ground, just as Ferns and Icie swooped down to catch her.

The Blazing Dragons eyes were wide and she was trembling as the two dragons

took her onto the soft grass. She sighed, Thanks. Im Lights. Im in Madam

Rainbowskys flying lesson at the moment. I liked your flying. It was good. The

dragons glanced at each other and Icie spoke Thanks. Im Icie. These are my

friends. The blue one is Aqua, the one flying is Sky, the yellow one is Flash and

the green one that also rescued you is Ferns. She pointed to each of the

dragons as she introduced them. Lights looked from dragon to dragon as she

remembered the names of them. Madam Mooncloud had walked up to Lights and

softly spoke to her Im Madam Mooncloud. Who were you flying with? Lights

was silent before she replied A Moon Dragon, a Sun Dragon and a Blue Moon

Dragon. Madam Mooncloud nodded and said Ok, well find them for you. Ferns

and Aqua will go up and look for them and tell them where you are, whilst the

others walk you back into the school to be checked out, you had a big fall.

Chapter 11- Defensive Moves

At dinner, Flash whispered to her friends Shall we go into the forest again?

Those Storm Dragons looked familiar. I think they were in the Fireball match.

The other dragons nodded in agreement, though Aqua shook her head. No,

those dragons are evil. We shouldnt go back into the woods. Sky and Ferns

nodded again, they had changed their minds. Icie and Flash growled No, well

take the Bloom Dragons with us. The three other dragons reluctantly nodded

and ran off to find the Bloom Dragons.

In the forest, the Bloom Dragons led the younger dragons in. They were taken

to some dark trees with bushes surrounding them. One of the Bloom Dragons

growled to them Come on. Get behind this bush. You dont want to be seen.

Suddenly there was a loud POP! and a shimmery horn glowed in the dark trees.

It started fading away, just as the five dragons ran behind the bush with the

Bloom Dragons. Dragons started leaping and flying from trees and the night sky.

Professor Scorchtooth was the first one to appear. He snarled HornClaws! Our

horn has come again! We should be ready.

When all of the HornClaws had gone, the Bloom Dragons and the younger

dragons rushed out of the forest and back to FireFall and the nests. At the

nests, the dragons curled up and went to sleep.

In the morning, after breakfast, the young dragons were taken to a warm room

for their lesson, Defensive Moves. The teacher, Professor Cactusclaw, a Cactus

Dragon watched the dragons enter his cave. Professor Cactusclaw swooped up to

them and growled Sit on those logs and listen. Some of these skills will be

hard. He pointed to some smooth logs before walking to a tall stump that he sat

on. Professor Cactusclaw spoke again First, we will do a twist-flick. Fly up into

the air and twist down. When you twist down, flick your claws at your enemy.

Practice that now. All the dragons flew up into the air, twisted themselves

down and struck out with their claws. After mastering their task, Professor

Cactusclaw instructed them again, Well done. Now try a jumpattack. Fly

towards the window ledge and land. Then jump down and use the twist -flick.

All the dragons practiced the jumpattack, flying up to the lowest window ledge.

But Flash didnt; she went to the highest window and landed. When she jumped,

it was too fast and she couldnt control it. She landed quickly on her head with a

big crash! Professor Cactusclaw glanced angrily at her before telling all of the

dragons You have to go up and down silently. Now, who wants a difficult one?

Whoever wants the challenge can do a sun blink. Whoever doesnt can practice

the two moves that weve already learnt. Raise your tails for a sun blink? All

the dragons raised their tails with excitement as Professor Cactusclaw carried

on Okay, then. This is a defending move to save baby dragons. To do a sun

blink, you need to be fast. Get into pairs. Icie, you can be the baby dragon. Sky

and Flash paired up, so Aqua and Ferns were together. Cactusclaw nodded and

instructed them Icie, you need to be playing a game with some feathers. Flashs

pair can be the enemies trying to steal Icie. Sky and Flash, you have to go

backwards and run in. Aqua, you say at home with Icie whilst Ferns is hunting.

Ferns, go over to the doors and hunt dust mice. Dust mice are pieces of dust,

there are lots at the bottom of the doors. He put every dragon in their place

and shouted 123GO! Every dragon started their job; hunting for Ferns,

attacking for Sky and Flash, looking after Icie for Aqua and playing games with

feathers for Icie. Professor Cactusclaw kept shouting out different

instructions to the dragon like Go faster, Sky! or Ferns, get in with Aqua!

Sometimes he would shout to Icie Icie, look worried and throw feathers

everywhere! Dont let your worried look go! Ferns had just joined the fight,

doing a sun blink, though Cactusclaw hadnt told them how to yet. Seeing this,

Cactusclaws eyes grew wide and he shouted Stop! Ferns has just done a sun

blink! The dragons stopped to look at Ferns, they asked her open-mouthed

How did you do it? How? How? Ferns began Well, first I flew up into the air.

In the air, I curled myself into a ball like the sun, then leaped and pressed

myself to the floor. On the floor, I got behind Sky and Flash, then did a twist-

flick and a jumpattack. In Flying, Madam Mooncloud nearly did a sun blink. Like

her, you have to somersault and twist down. Ferns glanced at Cactusclaw,

scared that she was wrong, but the teacher was smiling at her whilst nodding.

The lesson was soon over and the dragons talked excitedly about what they

would be learning in their next few Defensive Moves lessons over the coming

weeks.

Chapter 12- Defensive Moves

The following week, the dragons arrived at their Defensive Moves lesson. They

were looking forward to seeing Cactusclaw again.

Cactusclaw was instructing 3 Flower Dragons Start setting up the dried sap

mountains and the different scratch rolls now. As he spoke, he glanced at the

waiting dragons. One Flower Dragon had rushed out of the doors, leaving the

others to put up dry sap mountains and scratch rolls. Cactusclaw shouted after

it Petalcloud! Come back! Dont leave Pollenstem and Roseflow to do it, come and

help. Petalcloud came running back, shouting at Cactusclaw But, theyre

finished now. I dont need to. Cactusclaw nodded at the five waiting dragons to

come in and sit down, just as the Flower Dragons scampered away. Cactusclaw

told the young dragons Some dragons here have Warrior Names. Have you

noticed? Its because they failed on an exam, but Earthclaw gave them new

names so that they didnt get upset. They have to stay here now. Anyway, lets

start our lesson. Today were going to do Hunting Tactics and Helping. Ferns

eyes widened with excitement as she heard the words Hunting Tactics. She

could learn how to properly hunt! As Cactusclaw carried on, first we will do a

Sky Swoop. You fly up into the air and then you swoop down on top of the prey

and grab it in your mouth, dive forwards as you grab it. The dragons knew they

should practice, they tried and soon they had mastered the hunting move.

Cactusclaw nodded and instructed now well have a quick lesson on Dragon

Rescue, he went on to explain what Dragon Rescue is and told them how to deal

with a sick or injured dragon.

Over lunch, the dragons discussed battles. Flash was getting over excited over

having a battle, as was Ferns. Ferns exclaimed I wondered what it would be like

to fight in a battle against evil dragons. Flash commented to Fernsyes, maybe

they would try and take over Firefall School or perhaps Waterstream. Perhaps

the Hornclaws are planning to take over Firefall.

Little did Flash know, but that was exactly what the Hornclaws were planning.

Chapter 13- The Ceremony

The days turned into weeks and the weeks turned into a whole term, suddenly it

was Christmas. In that time the dragons had mastered Defensive Moves, Flying,

Care, Fire Breathing, Fireball and passed their exams. They had been very

successful in their exams and hadnt failed a single one, they were all feeling

very pleased and proud of themselves. Icie hadnt got a single question wrong

and had come top of the class. Even Flash had managed to pass despite making

her leaf mixture flash with lightning by accident, she had breathed on the top

leaves and roots. Soon the whole mixture was flashing with light.

The Great Cave was brighter than ever today as the trained dragons entered it.

The food looked and tasted delicious as they sat down to eat before Earthclaw

announced Five dragons have completed their Warrior Training and get Dragon

Warrior names. Aqua, come, he beckoned Aqua with his head and receive your

Warrior name, Aquafall. Now, Ferns, come to get yours. Your name will now be

Fernflight. Flashs eyes glowed as she realised who was next. Flash! Earthclaw

shouted Flash, come for yours, Flash ran up, lightening glowing and sparking in

her nostrils, as Earthclaw continued Flashburn! Icie, you will be Icetail. Lastly,

Sky, your new name will be Skylight. He let all the other dragons cheer before

giving the new Warriors their trophies and medals, he then added

Congratulations! The applause was spread round the room loudly until the

whole cave echoed with cheers and shouts.

After the applause died down, Earthclaw growled to the new warriors, you may

now leave FireFall and find your own homes. You are now responsible for

yourselves. Remember, this is a big honour, you must use your training to help

you survive without FireFall.

Skylight somersaulted in the sky as the celebrations rose up into the evening sky. The

5 new warriors scales shone in the setting sun. To Aquafall, it seemed as if the sun was

cheering as well, rays were flickering and dancing around the sun as it set. Icetail asked

Should we find our dens now? The other warriors nodded in agreement and set off.

Chapter 14- Captured!

Flashburn questioned Icetail Do you miss Fernflight yet? Fernflight had left them to

find her own den without help. Icetail nodded and warned Look out! No-wings! The two

dragons were coming close to No-wings. Flashburn exclaimed Oooh! I want a closer

look! Icetail snarled No! If you go Flashburn was already scampering off to the No-

wings. Flashburn quickly reached them, she turned to look happily at Icetail. Flashburn

didnt know that strange paws without claws were grasping her. Icetail turned, fled

back to her friends and spat the bad news at them.

Aquafall and Skylight followed Icetail back to the No-wing place, calling for Fernflight

to follow them to where Flashburn had been captured. When they reached the spot,

Icetail saw lots of No-wings clustering around the one that had taken Flashburn. Pink

paws like the wings of a Love Dragon reached out to touch and stroke Flashburn as if

she was their pet. Flashburn bent her head to bite the paws stretching towards her,sending sparks of lightning at them. There was a strange quiet noise as the No-wings

spoke to each other. One raised a wing and pointed at the warriors, no, not a wing.

Where the wings should be, long thin pink sticks were there instead. From the bottom

of their body were the same, long thin pink sticks came down to the ground. Not all of

the No-wings body were pink, there were a variety of colours, their tops and bottoms

were all colours and styles and textures. Icetail whispered Professor Earthclaw told

me that these were Plappels or Pursans.

Icetail glanced at Fernflight, who had just joined them, and all four warriors ran to the

No-wings. They scratched and bit until the Plappels dropped Flashburn and she joined

in, striking them with lightning as paws reached to her again. Flashburn and Aquafall

snarled and did a sun blink A few Pursans screamed and ran away, with Skylight andFlashburn chasing after them. Twist-flicks, jumpattacks and sun blinks were used a

lot as more and more No-wings ran. At last all the Plappels were completely gone,

Flashburn shakily asked Icetail What were those? Earthclaw told me they were No-

wings, Plappels, Pursans and Peioplies. Flashburn turned to all her friends and spoke to

them Thank you for rescuing me. Lets find our dens now.

Chapter 15- The New Life

As the five new warriors came close to the river, Aquafall exclaimed Water! Lets find

my new home! Aquafall rushed towards the river excitedly. When all five warriors were

at the river, Aquafall started to look for a place to make her den, the other dragons

helped. Skylight was looking down into cracks in the rocks by the waterfall for a safe

shelter for Aquafall when she shouted over here, Ive found a good place. The four

dragons looked up and ran over to where Skylight was looking into the rocks. She

pointed with her wing to a huge deep crack in one of the rock faces that Aquafall could

get into. Aquafall jumped into and waved bye to her friends with a fin.

When all the dragons had found their homes, Fernflight was heading towards the

forest for a den perfect for her. She found a home almost immediately, it was a fallen

tree with branches hanging over the sides, with twigs and ferns woven into the top.

The fourth night came and Fernflight snuggled into her mossy nest, without a single

worry, but then it all turned horribly wrong for her. Rain was soaking through the fernsand dripping through branches, creating puddles of ferns and snapped twigs and leaves.

Fernflight sighed and growled, Oh no. A huge rainstorm. Thats what I dont need She

glanced up at the roof, ferns and twigs drooping down, as raindrops splashed down on

her. Fernflight grumbled and my nest doesnt either. Fernflight angrily snarled at the

rain quickly soaking her. Suddenly a familiar face was visible through the pouring rain.

Aquafall! Aquafalls blue face and scales shone lighter and dripped as she stood out in

the rain. Fernflight heard a quiet call Fernflight! Fernflight listened hard as Aquafall

called through the rain again Fernflight! FERNFLIGHT! This time it was louder and

Aquafall splashed through the puddles towards Fernflight, screeching along the way

Flood! Too much rain! Flood! Fernflight, RUN NOW! Find the other dragons!

Fernflight, shocked, dashed out into the torrential rain and shrieked What?! You get

them! You can swim! I cant! Ill look for a safe and higher place! Aquafall nodded

determinedly before strongly paddling away to their friends dens. Fernflight watched

her go before pushing up with her wings. Unfortunately, her wings were rain-soaked and

they pulled her down. The floodwater was getting to the fronds on Fernflights tail as

she shook the rain off her and took off again.

Fernflight flew through the rainstorm for hours and passed lots of miles as she looked

for a safer and higher place away from the flood. She spotted a steep rocky cliff with

rocks and boulders as claw-holds for dragons that couldnt fly. Fernflight sighed in

relief as she landed on the warm rocks. She thought The rain cant get this far, Ive

flown lots of miles. Maybe I should check out the top and have a rest before Aquafall

comes with the other dragons. But, Aquafall might not do it and give up because of the

rain. Fernflight did not know that Aquafall hadgiven up.

Chapter 16- The Battle

Feeling excited, Fernflight clambered up the steep rocky cliff. As she reached

the top, her excitement changed to anger as she saw thousands of HornClaws

congregated and spread out amongst the trees. Oh no! I should warn the

others. Maybe we should get the rest of FireFall to defeat them. She worriedly

thought. Suddenly she remembered that she was now a Dragon Warrior, her

name now Fernflight. Then Fernflight sighed. The 4 other dragons that had

been her friends at FireFall had been split up to different parts of the forest.She glided down the cliff of to the forest to find her friends. Fernflight knew

where their dens were, she had helped them to pick. At least Flashburn and

Icetail will be easy to find; they always come to hunt with me, she thought.

With a snort of laughter, she remembered Flashburn at FireFall. Flashburn had

been silly and over excited. Sometimes she still was, even though she was a

Dragon Warrior now. She looked back at the time when Icetail had comedashing up to Fernflight and panted Flashburn! Shes been stolen by No-Wings!

Help me and the other dragons rescue her! So Fernflight had nodded and

followed Icetail to rows and rows of red scale-dens. But that was then.

Now, Fernflight needed to tell Aquafall and Skylight about the HornClaws.

Aquafall lived in a large crack by the waterfall, Sky lived up in the trees andclouds. When they had all been told, Aquafall plunged into the stream and

strongly splashed off to FireFall for more help. After minutes, Aqua reappeared

with every dragon from FireFall, with Earthclaw the Head Teacher in the lead.

Earthclaw told Fernflight and her friends what Aquafall had said to them.

Fernflight nodded and led them to the cliff. Up here, she whispered the

Hornclaws are here. Earthclaw and the rest of the dragons sprang forwards to

the HornClaws and attacked with spikes, claws and teeth.

Soon, only two HornClaws were left facing the FireFall dragons. One of them

was Professor Scorchtooth, Skylight realised. The rest of the HornClaws had

been killed by the FireFall dragons. Only these two hadnt. Earthclaw and

Scorchtooth lunged at each other and soon Scorchtooth was dead. The other

HornClaw snarled and leaped at the FireFall dragons. Skylight grasped him in

her wings and flung him over the edge of the cliff onto a boulder where he

balanced, still snarling and growling. He zoomed up and sped towards Skylight,

who quickly darted away and began whacking him with her tail. Soon the other

dragons joined in, apart from Earthclaw, who couldnt fly. With the FireFall

dragons clawing and mauling the HornClaw, he fell down onto Earthclaws sharp

spikes and was pierced right through. Life slowly slipped out of him.

Icetail asked Earthclaw Why were the HornClaws so evil? Earthclaw replied

They were planning to take over from the FireFall and Waterstream teachers

so that they could get more dragons to join them. Icetail nodded and

questioned him again What would they do with the extra dragons? He

answered her again For more power, more skill and more evil plans. She looked

shocked as she worriedly enquired Oh, but why? Didnt they have enough power,

skill and plans already? Was this battle one of their plans? Earthclaw

responded They thought they werent powerful enough, they wanted more and

more power and skill. And, yes, this battle was one of their plans. Theyve all

gone now, we defeated them.

About the Author

Sophie was born in Helsinki, Finland in 2005. Sophie first discovered a love of

letters when she was 12 months old, by the time she was 16 months old, she was

picking words she recognised out of books. At 2 years old, she began reading

chapter books and since then, hasnt stopped! Her love of writing started at 24

months of age, when she typed her first sentence I go in Daddy ppl cr. She

loved making little books and typing her own short stories from then on.

Her favourite books include the Warrior Cat series, Last Dragon Chronicles and

Harry Potter.

Recently, Sophie won the Print Press Young Writer Award and she has just been

short-listed for the Wicked Young Writer of the Year.

When she isnt writing, Sophie goes geocaching, swimming and cycling. She

enjoys playing the viola, making Powerpoint presentations and going to Brownies.

Sophie lives in Berkshire with her parents, younger brother and her two cats.
