MEDIA RELEASE October 11, 2018 Weekly Incident Summary September 24-30, 2018 HALTON HILLS, ON – Monday, September 24, 2018 07:47 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of an alarm sounding and water flow from a pipe on Stewart McLaren Rd. On scene fire staff found evidence of water flow from a sprinkler drain pipe near a water gong. Upon further investigation, fire staff discovered a sprinkler pipe leak in the underground garage sprinkler room area. Repair company called to scene to repair the leak. 09:41 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Corey Circle. Upon investigation it was determined that the occupant had accidentally set the smoke alarm off while using a steaming type iron on the 2nd floor. No further concern. 09:57 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a public assist on Main St S. On scene fire staff met with building personnel who advised that the roof top units were being switched over to heat mode. The alarm activated by heating duct detector. No further concern. 19:02 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a public assist on Wylie Circle. On scene fire staff met with the homeowner who advised there was a burning odour coming from their newly installed electric water heater and it would also set off the smoke alarm. Fire staff were unable to recreate the conditions but the detector would not go into alarm. An odour of solder paste was noted and this may have been the cause. Monday, September 24, 201807:47 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of an alarm sounding and water flow from a pipe on Stewart McLaren Rd. On scene fire staff found evidence of water flow from a sprinkler drain pipe near a water gong. Upon further investigation, fire staff discovered a sprinkler pipe leak in the underground garage sprinkler room area. Repair company called to scene to repair the leak.

Tuesday, September 25, 201817:05 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Hidden Lake Trail. On scene fire staff met with the homeowner who advised that the oven was smoking and set off the detector. No further concerns.

22:34 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Wilbur St N in Acton. On scene fire staff met with the homeowner who advised they had noticed smoke in the basement. Fire staff entered the home and reported very light smoke in the basement, but could not find a heat source. No smoke was reported on the main floor and second floor. After further speaking with homeowners they advised they had turned on the furnace today. Fire staff turned on the furnace to see if that was the issue, once furnace was fired up crews reported light smoke and heat source coming from the motor. The furnace was turned off and the homeowners were advised to keep the furnace off until it was serviced by a technician.

Wednesday, September 26, 201813:11 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a public assist for the report of a resident locked out of their home on Victoria St. On scene fire staff gained entry into the home with no further concerns.

Thursday, September 27, 201810:29 Hours - Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Country Lane Cres in Acton. Fire staff arrived on scene to crews pouring a concrete driveway and crews working outside on the brick work. Fire staff confirmed there were no alarms sounding or concerns.

11:40 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Barber Drive. On scene fire staff confirmed the alarm was caused by a faulty smoke alarm in the stairwell. No further concerns.

13:48 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Rexway Dr. On scene fire staff were advised the school was conducting a fire drill. No further concerns.

17:14 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Trafalgar Rd. On scene fire staff could not find any fires burning. A search of the area did not find any fires. No further concerns.

Friday, September 28, 201812:19 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Elizabeth Dr in Acton. On scene fire staff entered the building and found a hot water tap in the kitchen sink had been left on, overflowing the sink into the unit. The smoke alarm in the unit was activated from the steam coming from the hot water. Crews shut off the water and used squeegees and a shop vac to remove water from the unit and reduce damage.

13:11 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a carbon monoxide (CO) activation on Doctor Moore Crt in Acton. On scene fire staff entered the home and using detectors found zero readings throughout. Fire staff replaced batteries in the detector with no further concerns.

Saturday, September 29, 201809:01 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist on Durham St. While enroute fire was advised they were no longer required.

12:28 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a burn complaint on Hwy 7 in Acton. On scene fire staff found an unattended smoldering fire in a stone surround pit. The homeowner does not have a valid burn permit. The fire was extinguished and the homeowner was advised of the burn permit process for any future burns.

Sunday, September 30, 201807:16 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an ambulance assist on Durham St. On scene fire staff provided access to the building to Halton Regional Paramedics and cleared the scene.

13:21 Hours – Fire fighters responded to the report of black smoke in the area of Guelph Line and Eramosa Town Line in Milton. On scene fire staff met with the property owner who was burning prohibited items and did not have a valid Milton Fire burn permit. The fire was extinguished with no further concerns.

14:54 Hours – Fire fighters responded to a public assist for the report of persons trapped in an elevator on McFarlane Dr. On scene building personnel advised fire staff that the elevator technician had been contacted. Fire staff confirmed that the person trapped was not in any medical or emotional distress. Fire staff monitored the patient until the arrival of the elevator technician. The technician was able to access the door and let the patient out of the elevator. There were no issues with the patient. Fire staff assisted the technician with the deactivation of the elevator and then turned the scene over to building personnel and the technician.

20:19 Hours – Fire fighters responded to an alarm activation on Willoughby Way. On scene fire staff met with the homeowners who advised that burnt food had caused the alarm to activation. No further concerns.
