• More than 800 fire fighters rushed to Hanzhengjie Wholesale Market in downtown Wuhan Thursday as a fire broke out in an 8-story building there, injuring over 10 people. It took firefighters 4 hours to put out the fire, which spread to an area of more than 2000 sqm. Reports said the fire originated from a storage area on the 2nd floor.

He did not take his earphones off when he woke up and found his ears ringing and lost his hearing. His sudden deafness was caused by long-time exposure to loud music, doctor said. The man gained back some of his hearing after treatment.

• Somali pirates released the Ukrainian ship the MV Faina ship Thursday after receiving a ransom (赎金 ) of $3.2m, said a local man who helped negotiate (谈判 ) the deal. The MV Faina was captured (逮捕 ) in last September with its 20-man crew and a cargo (装载的货物 ) of 33 Soviet-era T-72 tanks plus other weapons.

• IBM Wednesday announced it is building the fastest computer on the planet, with the processing power (计算机处理运算能力 ) of 2m laptops, even greater that that of every one of the current systems on the top 500 supercomputer rankings combined.
