Dear customers andbusiness partners ofSchrack Seconet AG,

Paper is an everyday commodity. We use it to wrap goods. Weuse it for printing importantdocuments. We use it to read thelatest news. But above all, the

paper industry is one thing for Austria: animportant economic factor. We can countourselves lucky to find the ideal conditionsfor producing paper here in Austria.Forests, water and, most of all, the requiredknow-how, are the cornerstones of thisbranch of industry. Products, such as boguspaper, wrappings or sanitary articles are indemand worldwide. Austria exports 85%of its paper products. Therefore we are veryproud that important paper-producingcompanies opt for systems and solutionsmade by Schrack Seconet.

In our times, no company anywhere inthe world may claim to be able to doaltogether without paper, even though theWorld Wide Web has proven to be avaluable complement to paper. There ishardly another medium that has changedour lives as much as the Internet duringthe past 20 years. We are using the Internetfor information and for communication. We order tickets online, we are able totransfer money fast and easily, and we useit to get information about the productsand services of a company. A website, therefore, is an indispensable showroom ofa company, for many visitors are judgingits professionalism and trustworthinesssimply from the homepage. This is whycontinuous development is an absolutemust. Therefore I am glad that very soon Iwill be able to present to you our newwebsite in a totally new design. A lot ofservice functions, convenient downloadsand useful tools will be available to you.

ue to the increasing use oftechnology in our workinglives and the growing

number of individual workstationsthe protection of employees is gettingmore necessary. The use of personalalarm systems, therefore, is becominga central issue for responsiblecompanies and more importantthan ever before.

Schrack Seconet, therefore, has takenup personal alarmsy s t ems in i t sportfolio. The systems have beendesigned especially for employeesworking at individual workstationsand/or in dangerous environments andare necessary to reliably protect theseemployees. Individuals who work outof the viewing and calling range ofother people and who may even handlehazardous substances and/or performdangerous work are equipped withconvenient devices which can be used fortriggering an alarm in case of danger. This alarm may be triggered eithermanually or automatically. While themanual alarm can be triggered bypressing a button or by selecting pre-stored telephone numbers, the automaticalarm can be a position alarm, a no-movement alarm or a time alarm, depending on the respective situation.

The new personal alarm systemsoperate using GSM and/or GPS, which

makes the precise localization of theindividual concerned possible with anaccuracy of 3 meters. On request, also aradio system can be provided for interioruse.

In the framework of an informationevent of the Austrian Workers ’Compensation Board, AUVA, in Maythis year, Schrack Seconet has presented

t h e p e r s o n a lalarm systemstogether withFelsenmeer, themanufacturer ofthe systems, and

was able to attract the attention ofinterested parties and win new contacts. In particular for branches like forestryand agriculture, but also for industrialenterprises, the chemical industry orsecurity services, as well as smallenterprises, the use of such systemsmakes sense and/or is necessary.

For example Linde Gas in Hungaryworried about the safety of theiremployees, for whom the handling ofhazardous gases is an everyday routine. Therefore they have decided to usethe reliable personal alarm systemsfrom Schrack Seconet. But also inAustria many companies put their trustin these systems. We are certain thatthe number of companies for whomprotection of employees becomes moreimportant is on the rise and that infuture many lives will be saved thanksto personal alarm systems.

hanks to IP technologywe are able to provide ourcustomers with another

convenient feature, which enablesthem to better control the stateof their fire alarm systems and, therefore, to become even moreefficient: The new and autonomoussoftware RemoteMessage reliablyand immediately transmits anyrequested information from allconnected fire alarm panels to oneor several PC workstations.

In particular if several fire alarmsystems, which sometimes are locatedfar apart, are monitored from oneworkstation, RemoteMessage offers thedecisive advantage: The messages areautomatically and directly sent fromthe connected fire alarm systems toa server, which then forwards them tothe respective PC workstations and, bymeans of pop-up messages, reliably andimmediately provides those in chargewith the required information.

But our customers not only profitfrom this independent and fastinformation path: Immediately afterarrival of the message they can directlyconnect and call-up the fire-alarm panelwhich transmitted the fault or alarmmessage via the virtual PC control fieldIntegral VirtualMAP and retrieve moredetailed information, according to theirneeds.

In this way the problem can beanalysed anywhere on the premisesand the situation can be assessedin the best possible way, like, fore x a m p l e ,whether andhow manypeople a rerequired onsite to solvethe problem, which materials or toolsare necessary for solving it, etc.

RemoteMessage not only makesfast and reliable notification possibleat any time and any site, thus offeringwhat is needed for fast and cleardecision-making, but also helps to

reduce unnecessary trips to the panelsand to speed-up processes, thus cuttingdown costs.

Of course, RemoteMessage canbe integrated into existing fire alarmsystems any time later as well, sothat our customers can alwaysprofit from the benefits of the newsoftware. The software featuring allthese benefits is scheduled to belaunched in autumn this year.

outhern flair, Mediterranean joie-de-vivre andexciting events – on an area of more thansix hectares, the Open Air Museum Petronell

allows a fascinating glimpse of the everyday livesof ancient Romans.

Step by step the former flourishing Danube metropolisCarnuntum has been brought to a new life. The houseswere reconstructed using ancient craftsmanship to makethe outcome as authentic as possible. Visitors may strollthrough the lavish gardens, the town quarters, which werereconstructed true to the original, and they may even visit agrand, inhabitable town villa. The under-floor heating andthe still functioning stoves in the buildings are impressivetestimonials of the progressive thinking of the Romans.A particular highlight is a Roman public bath, completewith a changing room, a hot bath, a steam bath and a coldwater basin. In 2011, more than half a million people visitedthe Open Air Museum in Petronell. Of course thistestimonial of accessible history has to be well protected.Schrack Seconet has equipped the Open Air Museum with

an Integral C fire alarm panel and 140 smoke detectors. An alarm system and motion detectors, a great numberof glass-break detectors, as well as a CCTV-system protectthe premises from intrusion and theft.

S

ith its wonderful nouvelle art buildings, itscharming coffee houses, the hip shopping

malls and the grand public baths, Budapest, the elegant metropolis on the Danube, really lives up toits reputation of being the “Paris of the East”. Here, where tradition is alive but a modern, pulsating city stillhas developed, the world’s second-oldest metro line wasbuilt. The millennium metro line, also called M1, wasinaugurated in 1896, on the occasion of the 1000 years’celebration, by Austrian Emperor and King of HungaryFrancis Joseph I.

Today, Budapest has three metro lines in operation. Toprovide the highest possible safety, the authorities inBudapest have chosen fire alarm systems from SchrackSeconet. In the eleven stations of metro line 2, Integral MXfire alarm panels as well as 3,500 loop subscribers are

employed. Currently Schrack Seconet is equipping anothermetro line, the M4, which is scheduled to be opened forpublic transport in the spring of 2014, with high-tech firealarm systems. Particularly elongated constructions, such asmetro lines, profit from the operating mode of the 15 fully-redundant fire alarm panels Integral IP MX. The twographical SecoLOG operation control systems, which areused for central indication and operation of the fire alarmsystem, offer the highest-possible reliability.

he family-owned Kremslehner hotelgroup was founded in 1896 with theestablishment of Hotel Regina, situated

opposite Votive Church. In 1927, Graben Hotelwas acquired and, finally, in 1931, HotelRoyal. Since October 2011 also Johann StraussHotel is part of the renowned hotel group.Today the company is run by the 4th generationof the family.

All hotels are located just a fewminutes from the most famous sightsof Vienna and the shopping boulevardKärntner Strasse. The four hotelscombine high-class, elegant Viennese flairwith all modern conveniences. Therefore it wasvery important to integrate fire alarm systems that blend smoothlywith the elegant interior design of the building. For some decadesnow Kremslehner Hotels have opted for security systems fromSchrack Seconet. The central trademark of all the developmentsof the high tech company is the backward compatibility of thesystems. In the course of extensions and/or renovations of buildings, existing fire detectors of the first generation together with state-of-the-art detector technology were connected to the new, morepowerful fire alarm panel – fire protection now again complies withthe current regulations.

Thecommunication system VISOCALL IP from Schrack Seconet offersboth a high level of reliability and convenience and fast and efficientinformation sharing. With its specific and individual solutionsit provides a seamless communication network between allindividuals on the premises, no matter where they are. Anotheraspect that tipped the balance in favor of this multimediacommunication platform for the operators of the hospital was the

system’s modularity. This is an essential feature, as the integrationof different services, like TV, internet access, telephone or theretrieval of medical records from the data network is plannedfor the near future. The opening of the San Carlo Hospital isscheduled for autumn 2012.

r o mnewspapers to posters,

handkerchiefs or books – life withoutpaper is inconceivable for us. Each

Austrian citizen uses 255 kg a year, with anupward tendency. In Europe alone 22 billionrolls of toilet paper are used up annually. Withthis amount of paper you could wrap the Earth

12,000 times.Particularly

for companies in the paper industry it is ofgreat importance not to neglect professionalfire protection. Not only raw materials, suchas pulp and recovered paper, run a high riskof catching fire but also production machinesas well are extremely susceptible to fires.

aper was invented some 2,000 yearsago in China. The Chinese paper

makers were searching for analternative to the common expensivewriting materials made from silk andheavy bamboo wood. They succeeded inproducing relatively homogenous sheetsfrom old rags, fishnets and the bast fibresof the mulberry tree.

Paper – a high-tech product

What was once a troublesome and time-consuming procedure today is done byhigh-efficiency machines, which produceup to 200 meters of paper a minute. Theoriginal materials as well were replaced

by fibres, such as cellulose and recoveredpaper. Paper has become a high-techproduct and a crucial economic factor. Wehave 23 production sites in Austria, with anoutput of some five million tons annually.About 8 000 people are employed in thisbranch of business. Education, researchand training, therefore, are very important. In particular in the environmental sectorthis industry is setting new standards. Thehigh extent of autonomous production ofpower and heat together with a high share

of biogenic fuels – among them woodresiduals, brines, slurries, as well as bark –make these Austrian companies trailblazersin a CO2-friendly industry.

State-of-the-art fire protectionfor Austria’s paper industry

To meet the increasing demands notonly high-level research is indispensablebut also the continuous improvementof technical equipment. SCA HygieneProducts GmbH, Austria’s leading supplierand producer of sanitary papers, basedin Pernitz, Lower Austria, therefore iscounting on the know-how of SchrackSeconet. The company premises aremonitored with Integral panels, which areredundantly interconnected by serial datainterfaces, thus providing the highest levelof protection. State-of-the-art sprinklersystems, more than 2,000 fire detectors as

well as radio detectors, linear smokedetectors and smoke aspiration systems, andspecific EX-fire detectors for monitoringareas with high explosion hazard provideoptimum fire protection. DS SmithPackaging Austria in Margarethen amMoos, a leading supplier of customizedwrapping solutions, is yet another companythat puts its trust in the safety and securityexperts of Schrack Seconet. Productionhalls, storeroom and offices have beenequipped with about 500 fire detectors,as well as Maxima and Integral panels, which are connected by data-serialinterfaces. Another important paperindustry location is W. Hamburger GmbHin Pitten, a leading Euorpean manufacturerof high-value bogus paper. In particularthe automatic paper roll storage, withits capacity of 14,000 tons of boguspaper, poses a very high risk of fire. All inall, the production site is protected by16 fully redundant interconnected Integralfire alarm panels. It was a particularlygreat challenge to actuate the more than40 extinguishing sectors by the innovativeIntegral extinguishing control panels. Inaddition also 1100 fire detectors as wellas 50 partly highly-sensitive smokeaspiration systems were installed. W.Hamburger GmbH also has its own datacenter, which is located in a separatebuilding. Highly advanced early-detectionsystems as well as another Integralfire alarm panel provide for seamless

monitoring. A central control station, which is integrated in the Schrack systemof fire alarm panels, takes care of a perfectall-over view in case of an incident andmakes a fast intervention of the fire brigadepossible. Sappi Gratkorn GmbH as wellgoes for the top systems from SchrackSeconet. In the manufacturing sectors, i.e.paper mill, pulp mill and wood yard, next to transformers and turbines, in allelectronic and cable compartments aswell as in the offices a total of 4,300 firedetectors, divided into 15 subpanels, have been installed. Due to the hightemperatures and the high humidity, conditions at the sorting-out conveyorbands of the paper machines are quitedifficult. Therefore some of the detectorshad to be equipped with additionalhousings and air-cooling. Apart fromthe usual ancillary services, such as theclosing of fire doors and the deactivationof ventilation systems, also the systemsand the transport and conveyor systemswill be deactivated, in case of an alarm,as required.

Czech producers put their trustin Schrack Seconet

Also in the Czech Republic three paper-producing companies count on the high-techsystems of the Austrian company. Withabout 310 employees, Moraviapress AG inBreclav produces magazines, catalogues, brochures and advertising supplements. The workshop and the warehouses forpaper and dyes are protected from fires with190 fire detectors and one BMZ Compact32 fire alarm panel. For the packingcompany Smurfit Kappa Czech GmbH inBrno reliability and functionality is essential. Therefore their premises as well have beenequipped with Integral fire alarm panels and600 fire detectors. Rondoobaly GmbH in Ejpovicespecialises in printing andprocessing of cardboards.Offices, workshops andstorage rooms have beenequipped with IntegralMX fire alarm panels. The compatibility of thesystem perfectly fits therequirements o f thecompany, since thereare plans for a futureexpansion.
