Biographies

Stefan Pitur

Hi, my name is Stefan Pitur. I am 11 years old, I learn at “Colegiul National de Informatica Tudor Vianu”.

I am a basketball player. At the national championship I was among the best five players of the championship, so I thing that I play basketball very well. In two consecutive

years, me and my team won the national championship, but in one year we lost the final. But I continued to train because I want get one's own back.

In summer of 2013 I came to give the exam to enter at Vianu, after two days the results were shown. I entered . I was so happy and excited.

After the school was started the olympics started also. I like the informatics so I wanted to go of Informatics Olympics. After the school phase I went to the sector phase. After the appeals I wasn’t qualified but before the appeals I was qualified . After the sector phase came the municipality phase. There I was the seventh of my country, so I was qualified also. But at the national phase was very very hard. I had to solve 3 hard problems. But after this phase I received the bronze medal so I was happy .

This is all about me what anyone need to know. So with other words this is me.

Matei Mirica

Hello, I am Matei, I am 12 years old and I study at Tudor Vianu College in Bucharest. I haven’t got any brothers or sisters, but I have a very sweet dog, whose name is Milky.

I am plump and tall, I have got dark hair and brown eyes. I am friendly and kind, but also ambitious and hard-working. My favorite school subject is IT and I am very happy that in April this year I got the silver medal in the National IT Olympics. In the future I want to be a car engineer.

In my free time I like to read books, play handball and video games and also to have fun with my friends.

My favorite personality is the British scientist Isaac Newton; Harry Potter is my favorite character and Conan Doyle’s adventures of Sherlock Holmes are my favorite books.

For this school magazine project I have been in charge of my biography, an advertising, a scary story, one interview and two personal drawings.

My name is Eduard Cristea and I was born on 21st of October 2002. I have a brother whose name is Darius. He is four years old and we live together with our parents in a block of flats. The school where I am learning called Tudor Vianu. My favorite subject is Math. In my free time I ride my bike or I play football. My favorite football player is Lionel Messi.

My name is Ilinca Baiasu and I’m eleven years old. I was born on 24 th of December 2002 in Bucharest, Romania. My life as a toddler was really fun as I had a lot of friends at my Kindergarden. I really liked dancing and drawing and I remember my sister and I always did drawing contests. As a kid I loved to take long walks in the park with my family: it was so relaxing. Now, I still love to walk but unfortunately the time is a bit more shorter. My favourite school subject at the moment is mathematics, passion that made me want to learn at an IT and Computer Science school. I am very happy that I got the chance to attend this school as I love my colleagues. Now, one of my favourite sports is tennis, which I practice once a week. Although, my biography is really short. I know that it will get bigger and bigger as I grow. I love my life from head to toe and I don’t want to change a thing. I have a loving and caring family and a lot of great friends that always help me and that will be together with my best and my worst.

The Mysterious Atticby Matei Mirica

It was a beautiful day. Paul and Michael were spending their summer holiday at their grandfather's house, located in the middle of a beautiful field of flowers.- Let's play in the attic, said Paul!- Now we are big kids and now our grandfather would agree, said Michael.- Grandpa, can we play in the attic? We are 12 years old so it can’t be dangerous for us anymore.- No! You are still too small!- But, Grandpa, you promised us that when we grew up, you would let us play in the attic!

- Until tomorrow afternoon, nobody will go to that place, said the old man and quickly left the kitchen.- Why won’t he let us play? We're not little kids, said Paul angrily.- I have an idea: tonight, after he falls asleep, we will visit the attic and solve the mystery, said Michael.- But the entrance to attic is through grandfather’s bedroom. We cannot do it!- We will find a solution, said Paul. We are smart guys!

At midnight , the boys sneaked off onto the roof. Then they crossed the roof and entered the attic through a small window- Finally, here is mysterious place ! Turn on the flashlight! Quickly, Paul !

At the same time, they heard a scary scream. A strange creature, half man, half wolf appeared next to them.

- Let's get out of here fast ! Michael said . Let's go down to Grandpa’s room!But Grandpa's room was empty. Their grandfather was not there. Behind them came the strange creature with heavy steps.- Grandpa, where are you? Help ! cried the children.It was too late! The creature appeared in front of them and closed the door staring at them fiercely.

- I told not to get to the attic !- You mean ….. you're our grandfather ? asked Paul, his face white with fear.

- If you look carefully, you will recognize me, said the ‘’creature’’ , removing a mask from its face.- Grandpa, why did you do that ?- I’m asking that myself: why you didn’t you listen to me? I did not agree that you got not the attic but you did it nevertheless!- But , Grandpa , we were very curious ! Why are we not allowed to climb into the attic?- Because it is very dangerous ! Every summer a swarm of bees makes their nest there. I’m going to clean the attic tomorrow morning. But I was sure that tonight you would sneak to the attic!

- Sorry, Grandpa! From now on we will follow your advice and won’t ever do any forbidden things in the future! said two children hugging their grandfather.

Labor Day - back in time : 1886On May 1, 1886 , about 300,000 workers across America took to the streets , demanding that the working day to be eight hours. In Chicago , the epicenter of the movement , gathered 40,000 people . Anarchists , with their speeches and their vision mobilizing revolutionary , they soon gained the sympathy of workers and industrialists hatred , a businessman.LABOR DAY - At the end of the nineteenth century , American workers violent protestThe anarchists led demonstration has taken sometimes violent overtones . And the number of workers who decided to join the movement grew, reaching 100,000. From May 2, 1886 , for six months , beating between police and strikers have become habit. On that day, the Metal Workers Union workers threw stones at police and they responded with gunfire . At least two workers died .Labor Day - Chicago DiversionAnarchists were announced for the day after a public meeting to discuss police brutality . However, due to bad weather and the spread of the announcement, only 3,000 of the workers came the day at set Haymarket Square . Workers came with families and children , and at the meeting held to present the Mayor of Chicago.

During the discussion , two police detectives arrived and announced that leaders use language that incites workers to violence. While the police wasted crowd , a bomb exploded in the forces. I know Spinu Ioana Teodora since she was a little girl. Her family left Romania a few years ago, and now they live in England. Teodora is a special girl, and I would like you to know something about her.

- (I) Hello, Teodora! I am now doing a project and I must write an interview in English for the school magazine. I want it to be a very interesting interview, and I chose to talk to you. You live in England and I would like our readers to know how a child spends time in this country. First of all, can you tell me a few words about yourself?

- (T) I am an 8 year old girl, in my 3rd Year at Sherdley Primary School https://www.facebook.com/SherdleyPrimarySchoolStHelens . I really enjoy going to school and I have lots of amazing friends.

- (I) I know that in England the school is different from the one in Romania. Can you tell me (briefly) how a typical day is at your school?

- (T) We start at 8.50am and end the day at 3.15pm. First, we do guided reading where we read in different groups and discuss about what we read, at the end. Then, we do math – I am now learning the 9-times table and column subtraction. Next, we go outside for 15min for a little play and have a snack. Back in class, we move to literacy. This term I am learning about theatre plays – writing our own play, stage directions, transforming stories into plays. After that we do support for spelling, where we talk about the spelling of the words that we have to learn that week. At that moment we go to lunch and go outside for 45min of play. After coming back in, we do art – this term we are doing Aztec Masks. Afterwards we do ICT and this term we are learning about Internet Safety. Finally, it is home time.

- (I) Here in Romania, we have homework every day. Sometimes there is too much homework and students do not like this. Do you have this problem?

- (T) No, I do not have this problem. First, we only have homework once per week – one for math and one for literacy. Secondly, I really enjoy doing them and usually I do extra work.

- (I) We now study, in fifth grade, various subjects: Math, Romanian language, English, French, geography, history, computer science, history of art, music and, of course, sport. What are your fields of study in school?

- (T) In third year, I am studying Math, Literacy, Modern Foreign Languages (French, German, Spanish and Italian), Art, ICT, Sports, Swimming, Religious Education, Science, and History. I go to many exciting School Clubs like Choir, IPad Club, Gardening, and Zumba. Beside these I am doing extra fascinating activities like Drama (getting ready for the Summer Show on a real stage), Rhythmic Gymnastics (practicing for Summer Display), Swimming (progressing towards Stage 4) and Guitar every week, which I enjoy a lot.

- (I) I like most computer science and math. What are your favourite areas?

- (T) My favourite subjects are Art (it is very creative), ICT (love finding interesting facts on the Internet), Literacy (I like writing adventure stories) and because I enjoy them the most.

-(I) Because we are children we love to play. What do you like to play?

- (T) I like playing on my bouncy trampoline at home, and Math Champions that we play at school. I have a great time playing Scrabble with my dad or against the computer, and playing my guitar – I know how to play Katy Perry songs and “Let It Go” from Frozen, the movie. I also enjoy painting and exploring the nature.
