The key to achieve better fuel combustion is to create a secondary atomization effect by adding water into the fuel. Reference installations include cruise ships, bulk carriers, container ships, tugboats, tankers, Ro-Ro ferries and car carriers. The results have been independently verified by classification societies and an engine manufacturer..

MODULAR SYSTEMThe system comes in two modules: Emulsifier Module & Water Controller Module

SIMPLE INSTALLATIONThe installation is simple and does not interrupt the ship’s normal operation. Dry-docking is not necessary. Retrofitting is done when the ship is at a port. Three by-pass valves will be installed to the fuel line by retrofitting a small section of the FO pipe (between the booster pump and the heater).

MINIMUM MAINTENANCEThe key part of the system, BOS Emulsifier, has no moving parts which is a significant advantage compared to the conventional homogenizer device. The performance is reliable and consistent requiring minimum maintenance. Only the maintenance-free HP water pump requires scheduled inspection every 6 months.

EASY OPERATIONThe system is designed to be easy and safe to operate. It is fully automated with fail-safe interlocks built in.

The control panel has an intuitive interface. It is easy for the user to set up and operate the system. The system can be integrated to the ship’s engine room control system.

2. WATER CONTROLLER MODULE

The key innovation of BOS EFS is the patented BOS Emulsifier, the most advanced option to older devices like homogenizer, cavitations and ultrasonic type emulsifiers. BOS Emulsifier has no moving mechanical parts that would suffer from  rapid  wear and tear in the engine room environment.  It is  designed to produce  optimal emulsion on demand to achieve  2-5%  fuel savings consistently and reliably.

When unconsumed emulsified fuel after the engine is returned to the close-loop fuel system, BOS Emulsifier re-emulsifies the water and fuel into exactly the same optimum emulsion of the correct water content and water-in-fuel particle sizes of 2 to 8 microns. BOS Emulsifier automatically controls the water content accurately; and it has been designed parametrically to have just sufficient hydro-dynamic shearing energy to break the water particles to below 8 microns but no smaller than 2 microns. Older devices would produce water-in-fuel particle sizes that are either too small (due to repeated re-emulsification) or too big (due to rapid wear and tear).
