Attitude of GratitudeAn interview with Carol Jones Submitted by Don Jones

This month’s interview is with Carol Jones. Yes, the better half of yours truly. I hope you enjoy

the interview.Tell us a bit about yourself. I was born in Tahlequah, OK while my dad was fin-ishing his degree. Dad was a teacher/coach therefore I grew up in several towns, all in northeastern Oklahoma. I retired from teach-ing over ten (10) years ago after spending near-ly forty (40) years in the classroom. Don and I have three sons and a daughter. They have blessed us with two grandsons and four grand-daughters.How long have you been a Parrot Head? Who or what got you involved with the Par-rot Heads? I am not sure how many years it has been. Mike and Becky got us officially start-ed in the club. Our first meeting was at Craw-pappys if that helps you out.How many Buffett concerts have you at-tended? Which one was your favorite? I have been to close to ten concerts I think. My favorite probably was the one at the River Spirit Casino. Second row seats are hard to beat. What is your favorite Buffett tune or tunes? Golly, tough question. I might need a list to pick from as I like most all of them.

If there was suddenly no Buffett or Trop Rock music, what type of mu-sic might we find on your play list? Classic Rock, ABBA, and Cher for sure.Of all the TPHC activities, which one is your favorite and why? I always enjoy the golf tournament when it is not too hot of course. So what do you like to do to chil-

lax? I enjoy traveling for sure, preferably with the top down. Working in the flower beds. Art-sy crafty stuff. Come on spring! What is one or two thing that most Parrot Heads don’t know about you? I have seen Cher in concerts almost as many times as I have seen Buffett. I was the valedictorian of my class of four. Yes four, ask me about it.Now for a goofy question. If you were the new color in the Crayola box, what color would you be and why? I think my favorite color is bling. That covers a lot. Anything pret-ty and flashy.Any closing remarks? Being former teachers, service to our community is near and dear to Don and I. We never knew when we joined how much the Parrot Heads were involved in the giving thing. It is so much more than the music and the margaritas. The next time you see Carol, give her a big hug and a big thank you for being an ac-tive member of our club. Phins Up!

A small group of about twenty Parrot Heads met at Stumbling Monkey on Saint Patrick’s Day to listen to Christopher Dale perform an Acoustic Solo show. It was touch and go if we were going to be able to have the event.

That was the day the mayor declared that all bars must be closed immedi-ately. As it turned out, restaurants could stay open until 11:59pm so

the show was a go. What a way to end the last day of Bars and Restaurants being open for con-

gregation. We definitely ended our last night of social free-dom with a bang.

St. Patrick’s Day Celebration

Hello Parrot Heads near and far. OKC is getting our very own Jim-my Buffett concert on Thursday October 15, 2020. The “Central Oklahoma Parrot Head Association, “COPA”, is hosting a parking lot Tailgate Party the day of the show to prepare everyone for what I’m sure will be a Phantastic show. The lot that we have has a limited amount of space, so we need to try and get an idea, as early as possible, how many tailgaters we will have in our lot. For those that know our city we will be in the Joe Carter lot which is directly East across the street from the Bricktown ballpark. We have not nailed down the price per parking spot yet as we do not know exactly what all will come with our parking lot rental. We believe it will be around $50.00 per car spot and $200.00 per RV for 4 spots. If you plan to come to OKC and party with us please let us know so we can make this an unforgettable event for all.

Just respond to - Jeff Brooks via email - [email protected] or give him a call at 405-413-9305

Parrot Head Primer - 2020Here’s a primer for our new members and a reminder for our long time members about how Parrot Head Clubs (PHCs) function and also a list of useful/interesting resources. There are 213 officially sanctioned Parrot Head clubs world wide (currently the United States, Canada, Mexico and Aus-tralia). The first club was founded in 1989 in Atlanta.

All PHCs are run under the guidance of Parrot Heads in Paradise (PHiP) which is our national organization. PHiP has a website, http://www.phip.com/.

PHiP is run by a Board of Directors, most of whom are voted in for two year terms on a staggered basis. Each club gets one ballot for the Elections. You can find the current list of officers at http://www.phip.com/club-leaders.

To retain our rights to be a sanctioned club, we have to follow a few rules. These are the biggies:

• File two annual activity reports on dollars raised and hours donated to charitable events.

• Maintain a functioning website.

• Renew the club charter every January and pay dues of $75 or $1 per active member, whichever is a higher amount.

• Have a designated person as our official point of contact. For most clubs, this is the President but it can be anyone that the club chooses.

• There are some other rules and they can be found at http://www.phip.com/club-general-guidelines.

• There are no rules about “stinkin’ badges” but most clubs have them. Stinkin badges, that is, not rules about them. ;)

In 2018, Parrot Head Clubs donated/raised over $3,400,000 and volunteered 211,459 hours. That’s sure something to be proud about! You can read the entire report, and see numbers for prior years, at http://www.phip.com/about. It’s truly an impressive set of data and one that every PHC member should be proud of.

Tulsa Parrot Head Club 25th Annual Charity Golf Tournament

“Golf Tournament Phlocking” June 20, 2020

Page Belcher Golf Course – Stone Creek Dear Giver, The Tulsa Parrot Head Club has been actively involved in charitable events since 1993. This year, our 25th annual charity golf tournament will benefit Tulsa Cerebral Palsy Association (TCPA) and Special Olympics. We will be donating every dollar we raise at our golf tournament to these special charities. TCPA is a wonderful group of people dedicated to helping the lives of children and adults affected by cerebral palsy in the Tulsa area. Special Olympics helps people with intellectual disabilities discover new strengths and abilities, skills and success through the power of sports, We are asking businesses and individuals to help us this year by sponsoring a hole at our golf tournament or by donating promotional merchandise, golf equipment, gift certificates, gift cards, volunteers, well you name it, we will gratefully accept almost any type of donation! We are currently searching for sponsors to help us fund the tournament. The minimum donation to have your name and/or company logo displayed on a special sign at a tee box is $100. Of course, we will gladly accept an anonymous donation of any size. Your donation is tax deductible. You can make your check payable to: Tulsa Cerebral Palsy Association (TCPA), Special Olympics, or the Tulsa Parrot Head Club. Regardless of how you address your check, you will receive a donation receipt from one of our sponsor charities. If you donate $100 or greater, please send me an electronic file with your logo, company artwork, or anything you would like to appear on your sponsorship sign. If you are unable to provide a logo or artwork, we will create a sponsorship sign on your behalf to promote your business or donor name. Our tournament is a unique, super fun event. Each year we have an overflow of golfers that join us from Wagoner, Tulsa, Arkansas, Texas, and even Minnesota! There are no cash prizes for finishing first, but finish 13th and your team will be the stars of the day. Our emphasis is on charity first, fun a close second, winning…well, that does not really matter as our charities are the real winners. The Tulsa Cerebral Palsy Association and the Special Olympics are a special part of the Tulsa Parrot Head Club. We have multiple members with children, nieces, nephews, sisters, or brothers directly affected by disabilities or Cerebral Palsy. Make a difference today – make your donation now! Phore the Kids!
