  • 3. When you find your film title click on the cover of the movie, and copy either the URL or the embed code from below the film picture and description. The URL will link to the film on the Swank site. The embed code will allow the film to open within Blackboard. Most of our movies have a captioned version, and a caption-free version. To allow for accessibility, make sure that you copy both version links into your course.

  • To Use the URL: Navigate to the area in your course you would like to post the movie. Hyperlink the title of the film by highlighting the text and clicking on the globe. Paste the URL into the ‘Insert Link’ URL box and click ‘Submit’.

  • To Use the Embed Code: Navigate to the area in your course you would like to post the movie. Click on the Toggle to HTML Button () and paste the embed code below your text. Click ‘Submit’.

  • Creating a Lesson in SWANK 1. Once you identify your movie, click the Create Lesson button.

    2. Add you course, course title & lesson description.

  • 3. You can add your assignment objectives by clicking on ‘Create New Lesson Objective’.

  • 4. To create timeline objectives (i.e. questions for your students to answer as they view the film), click on ‘Create New Timeline Objective’. Start the film. When you reach a place in the film that you would like students to consider an objective, pause the film and make note of the time.

  • 5. Click ‘Create New Timeline Objective’ and set the start time to correspond to the time you made note of. Adjust the end time to reflect the end of the scene for your objective. Once the film reaches the start time you set, the objective is highlighted for the student in a pane on the right side of the screen. The end time will cause the film to pause so that students can make notes or answer the questions that you asked in the objective. Type your objective or question in the box below the start and end times, and click ‘Add’.

    7. Once you have completed your lesson, click ‘Save’, and then ‘Back’ to return to the main Swank screen.

  • 8. To insert your film and lesson in Blackboard, locate your lesson in the ‘My Lessons’ box. Click on the cover of the film. Copy the URL or the Embed code using the instructions from Finding & Linking to a SWANK film above. Other Features of SWANK Lessons: 1. Lessons can be edited and will automatically be updated. To edit a lesson, navigate to the ‘My Lessons’ box. Locate your lesson and click ‘View Lesson’. Make any changes, and click ‘Save’ and then ‘Back’ once you are done. 2. You can upload files to your SWANK lessons (i.e. worksheets, notes, etc.). When creating a lesson, choose the ‘Upload’ tab, then ‘Browse’ to search your computer for the file that you would like to ‘Upload’.

Your document will be shown under the ‘Attachments’ tab.

  • 3. If you would like to duplicate your lesson to make minor changes for another course, click ‘Copy’ once. Click ‘Return’ and check the ‘My Lessons’ box. Your copied lesson will be there.

    4. If you are no longer using a lesson or would like a practice lesson deleted, please contact your instructional designer or the ELI Librarian ([email protected]).
