Where to search

1. Start on the Research Tools page of the library web site

2a. Then either click on the Articles tab in Sophi Search to search across all our databases.

2b. OR click “Access EBSCO’s ATLA” under the Databases tab to just search the ATLA Religion Database in EBSCOhost

Note: The following instructions apply to an ATLA search in EBSCOhost, but your results in Sophi Search should look similar.

This result is a also a review, but it is not available as full text online. You will need to

find a print source.

You can tell the full text is not available, because there is no link to a full text version like the links we saw in the previous examples.

Note: Some articles may not be available in full text through ATLA, but are available through one of our other databases. Searching in Sophi Search will let you check everything for full text access at once.

Check the Online Catalog

• It is good practice to check the Library Catalog on all sources of interest that aren’t available in full text.

• Because not all of Stitt Library’s holdings are entered into the ATLA Religion database, we might have something even if there isn’t an “APTS Stitt Library owns” note in the record.

• And remember: Sophi Search and the Journal Titles list may be able to help you find full text access to something that isn’t full text in ATLA.

The record that comes up gives valuable information about what years and issues

of the journal the Library has.

The Library Has section tells you the volumes and years of the journal that we have at Stitt Library as bound volumes.

The Recent Issues section lists recent volumes of the journal that have been received but are not yet bound.

The Text online link takes you to full-text online access for the journal. Note that not every issue may be available online.

It also gives the call number in the stacks (a term for the shelves in the library) for the bound volumes

of the journal. Use this number to locate the physical volume.

This is the call number. Bound journals are shelved in with the books, according to their call number. The PER means that this is a periodical. The call number is BR140 J6.

The volumes listed in Recent Issues can be found with current periodicals in the reference room.

Back in the ATLA Religion Database, check the rest of the information given in

the Source area of the citation:

This is the volume number and date of the journal. In this case, volume 59, number 3 from July 2008.

These are the page numbers. In this case, pages 529-530.

Page 16: Finding a Journal Article or Book Review Print Sources

Comparing the volume and date with the catalog record shows that the Library has the print volume you need. You can get it from the shelf and read or

copy it.

The ATLA Religion Database listed volume 59, number 3, July 2008 as the issue we want.

And that fits in the range in the Library Has section of the catalog record.
