• Find a recipe and prepare a meal using quail or another game bird. Let your kids help with the cooking tasks. As you eat, discuss how God’s people may have felt when God sent quail into their camp to eat.

Unit 5 • Session 2 Jethro Helped Moses

BIBLE STORY SUMMARY:

• Moses listened to the problems of the people all day.

• Moses’ father-in-law, Jethro, warned Moses that was unwise.

• Moses needed help to lead God’s people.

• Moses chose godly men to help him lead God’s people.

• Play a game with your kids where you hold your hands behind your back and let them take turns slipping their arms under yours to act as your hands. Let them “help” you eat something, brush your teeth, or style your hair.

Commandments

BIBLE STORY SUMMARY:

• Moses went up Mount Sinai to speak with God.

• God told Moses what to teach the people.

• God gave rules to show how to love Him and others.

FAMILY DISCUSSION STARTERS:

• Why are the fi rst four commandments important?

• Why are the last six commandments important?

• Who has perfectly obeyed God’s rules?

FAMILY ACTIVITY:

• Teach your kids to play a board game or card game. Discuss how it would feel to play without knowing the rules. Remind them that God’s rules are explained in the Bible.

• Work with your family to make a list of rules for your family to follow for at least one evening. Rules can be silly or serious.
