It is for me a great pleasure and satisfaction as President of the Organizing Committeeand on it’s name, to present you the Final Programme of the Symposium organized by theFederation of the European Association on Pediatric Anaesthesia (FEAPA), Spanish Societyon Anaesthesia and Reanimation (SEDAR).

Our Aim is to extend knowledge and experiences in the Pediatrics Anaesthesia field, as wellas encouraging our young specialists and strengthen the relationship existing with thistwo scientific societies. For this reason we have invited the most relevant national andinternational experts in the matter.

The Scientific Programme contains, round tables, conferences and workshops, for its scien-tific and practical interest. We try to offer the possibility of debating themes related withour daily activity, and think closely on the Pediatric Anaesthesia development and nearfuture.

• Difficult AirWAY management (Dr. Manuel Romero - Dr. Roberto Falcone)

Theoretical and practical classes to acquire specific abilities in the use of the dif-ferent technical procedures (fibroendoscopy, retrograted intubation, use of laryn-geal mask, ) for the resolution of the problems related with a difficult AirWAY.

• Paediatric mechanical ventilation (Dr. Javier García Fernández)

At this workshop practices with the diverse models of respiratory devices usuallyemployed in paediatrics will be made, studying different ways of ventilation(high frequency, continuous flux, etc) adequate, in each case, to different physio-pathologic situations.

• Award to the Best Scientific Oral Communication in Paediatric Regional Anesthesia: Agrant of 600 euros (granted by B. Braun Medical) and a Formal Acreditation should bedelivered by the Scientific Committee of the Congress to the best Communication inPaediatric Regional Anaesthesia.

The results of these two awards will be announced in the Closing Dinner of the Symposium.

PUBLICATIONS

The Organizing Committee of the Congress will publish a book with the Main Lecturesedited as “Updating in Pediatric Anesthesia”. The abstracts of the ScientificCommunications will be published in a special number of the Revista Española deAnestesiología y Reanimación.

INFORMATION OF INTEREST

MADRIDMadrid is the Capital City of Spain, cosmopolitan, business and financial center, where the CentralPublic Services are located, as well as the State Governmental Institutions, the Parliament and the RoyalPalace where the Royal family dwells.

Geographically located in the center of the Spanish Peninsula, it is also the bustling center of the maineconomic and financial services, cosmopolitan and modern, with a very solid historic legacy and highlyattractive cultural, touristic and leasure possibilities.

The visitor can take advantage of visiting several very attracti-ve and exceptional places in the area round the City. All ofthem well known all over the world, such as the RoyalMonastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, among the eight won-ders of the world, the Royal Site of Aranjuez, declared by UNES-CO as Cultural Landscape Heritage, Alcalá de Henares, aRenaissance town also declared World Heritage. At an hour dri-ving distance medieval towns, as famous as Avila, Segovia andToledo, can also be enjoyed.

Furthermore, the appearance of the City has suffered an evolution all along the last years, with verymodern buildings and facilities, an outstanding net of public transport, communications, hotels andservices, which makes Madrid one of the main centers for business and international meetings.

CLIMATEThe weather forecast for the days of the Congress is not always relia-ble. The fall is ordinarily a humid season, and the temperatures rangebetween 10º and 15ºC.

CURRENCYThe official coin is the Euro, which is in use since January 2002, as in therest of the countries of the European Union. The Euro has 100 cents.

There are eight different kinds of coins:. 1, 2 , 5 , 10, 20 and 50 cents, and1 and 2 euros. Also there are kinds of banknotes: 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200and 500 euros.
